Just by the by, another article said that the final and actual Blood Alcohol Content was .08... And there are conflicting reports about whether or not he actually ran over a fire hose... it seems that he took a side street and that the cop or fire department may have missed a blockade... which made them mad when they saw a civilian driving around an active fire scene. That would lead me to believe that the fire hose charge is the cop grasping for probable cause to pull him over... Sounds like sort of a nonsense DUI charge on a guy who helped put away child molester to me. But I'm glad to hear the state seems to be willing to tie guys like this up on these types of charges while letting convicted molesters out of jail on a technicalities.... seems priorities are a bit out of whack. I guess he had sticky fingers. (Jun 30, 2009 | post #5)
What are the board member salaries? How about the administrators? Let's get teachers into that range. (Jun 26, 2009 | post #23)
You mean those "hardworking " admin and board members who through incompetence and sloth cost the district hundreds of thousands of dollars on a financial scheme that they didn't even understand? Those folks? Cut their wages to teacher levels and thin the herd. (Jun 23, 2009 | post #90)
I can't believe that anyone would find this situation acceptable... we have good teachers who are underpaid and foolish administrators who are raking in the dough. That is an absurd situation that only puts the kids at risk. 800 dollars a day? Seriously? I'd like to run the comps on that because I highly doubt the board couldn't have beat that. Plus, I'll say it again... for the most part administrators and board members should not earn that much more than teachers. Especially, board members who apparently vote for things they don't understand and then don't even followup to see if what their vote accomplished. And the majority of the money collected from the taxpayers should go to where it was intended... the education of the children. How many books does 800 dollars buy? How many instruments? How much science equipment? How many buses? This is infuriating on every level. (Jun 23, 2009 | post #76)
Am I the only one wondering why a school district is even involved in complex financial machinations? I mean, shouldn't they simply be allocating tax payer money to pay teachers to educate children... and supporting the infrastructure that allows that process to happen? Why is the BASD even in the derivative market? I find it odd that our personal tax dollars are being used to make private companies wealthy instead of bettering our community by teaching children. Further, as someone else has previously pointed out, I find it completely insane that an entire board would commit literally millions of dollars to something they don't understand. AND that they don't even have the organizational follow through to make what they voted on actually happen. That's a severe problem. I mean, if I walked up to you and said, "Put fifty dollars in this box and then magically it will turn into 150." Would you just fork over the money? Or would you want to know how this would work? Congratulations, you have more common sense than the BASD board. (Jun 8, 2009 | post #36)
Avis, I find when these folks have a complete, black and white absolute answer (which is what gives them faux comfort) that they don't care about compassion for other humans. It's the same reason they can deny people the benefits of stem cell research or homosexuals to marry. They are more comforted by a belief in a sky daddy that has laid down an absolute set of rules and if you challenge them to think... it angers them. Sometimes to the point of murder. (Jun 5, 2009 | post #139)
Here's my point proven. This person is so backwards that they think they're actually "killing babies" like some sort of horror film. And the irony is that the only killing that's being done is from her whacked out side. Against an actual human being. They're all twisted up in their foolishness and devotion to a sky daddy. I don't think we'll ever be able to reason with them... we just have to keep them at bay. (Jun 5, 2009 | post #105)
No, they don't understand that. I am convinced that people on the anti-choice movement (and possibly the hard right in general) have a physiological different brain makeup. They see black and white where there is an ambiguity and seem to lack higher level logic and reason. It's why they say absurd things like: "the second the sperm and egg come together that's a human" or "no abortion is tolerated" or "You're killing babies!" That's the thinking of a child. It's sad really. (Jun 5, 2009 | post #97)
It's all right, if the thugs want to take it down to the gutter... I can join them. (Jun 5, 2009 | post #92)
That's sort of the point there... there is no black/white line. An egg is not a chicken. It's an ambiguous, subjective definition that neither you nor I have an absolute answer for. However, we do know that a woman should have the right over her own body. That is why abortion should remain legal, available and easily obtained. (Jun 5, 2009 | post #90)
LOL... so you can still have sex if you pull out? Or if you use the rhythm method? How about a condom? Birth control? Newsflash sweetie... we are animals. (Jun 5, 2009 | post #77)
So, absolutely no holds barred... the very second that sperm hits the egg... that's a human... That's what you believe? (Jun 5, 2009 | post #76)
Yeah, but they're allowed in the same area as drinkers? (Jun 5, 2009 | post #337)
