So, one bad RT and the whole hospital is trash? That's a narrow-minded way to think. (Sep 4, 2009 | post #6)
Uh, 1968? What an idiotic statement. I think you DID suffer. We owe it to our kids and the future to make improvements from 30 yrs ago. It's a different world from 1968. A lot more is required to succeed in the world today. I prefer to provide the kids in our state with the best we can offer them. The state has a long way to go to get our education system up to par. But it comes down to the county level, it's citizens and their attitudes and respect for education. Sadly, in a lot of counties in NC there isn't much value put on education and is seen as a waste of tax dollars because of that very attitude. Just because that's how they did it then does NOT mean it's acceptable now. (Aug 27, 2009 | post #19)
Ignore Jonesville, NC. He's from Yadkin Co. and most people there don't value education or teachers. They're content to work at Unifi and live in their trailers for the rest of their lives. "Cuz if it was good enough for their mama and daddy then it's good enough for them." That's the attitude they have and which is why Yadkin Co. will never progress or grow. (Aug 27, 2009 | post #18)
My mistake. You are correct. I should have said "alleged killer, abuser" and no, I don't know the facts of this case. They absolutely deserve their day in court! Thank you for checking me on that. Yes, I'm painfully aware of how many innocent men/women suffer behind bars because of aggressive, dishonest cops, DA's, and other unfortunate circumstances. I also know it could happen to ANY of us. No longer can we rest on the idea that if you're not doing anything wrong then you don't need to worry! Our system is FAR from perfect. Hell, it's far from JUST a lot the time! As far as the God/Satan issue, I won't debate on it with you tonite. I'm pretty sure we don't share the same views so I'll leave it at that. (Aug 22, 2009 | post #65)
The author sounds like a fundie in disguise. Maybe this is their "toned down" version of religiousness they claimed they were going to adopt in order to appeal to more of the mainstream/middle of the road Christian masses? (Aug 20, 2009 | post #8)
Where was this god when the child was being neglected, abused, tortured and murdered? If she was a "child of god" then WHY didn't he help her & rescue her from her killers? Don't even say to me that "it was her time to go" or "god has a plan" or "we don't know why god allows things to happen" or "it's the devil's fault". That's all bullshit & lies. It doesn't supply answers and it comforts NO ONE. (Aug 20, 2009 | post #50)
Tony, YOU need to do your own research into Evolution as it's obvious that YOU don't know what you're talking about. YOU are the one spouting ad nauseum the lies you've been told probably by your preacher about his own "theory" of evolution. Instead you choose to remain willfully ignorant for fear it might cause you to question your "faith" in your babble. (Aug 13, 2009 | post #101)
RI = Religious Indoctrination (Aug 1, 2009 | post #29)
You don't have to model ANY religious fundamentals to be kind and respectful to your fellow human beings. As an atheist, I do these things because I have morals and a sense of right and wrong, not because I fear an angry god or an eternal hell. I respect others just because it's the right thing to do. What a macadamia. Ewww, the whole page is just dripping with delusion syryp. I'm guessing Pentecostal Holiness or Church of God. (Jul 26, 2009 | post #229)
Auschwitz begins wherever someone looks at a slaughterhouse and thinks: theyre only animals. Theodor W. Adorno The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality." Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher I'm from the South and I'm constantly ashamed of how far behind & apathetic we are in our treatment of animals. I'm confronted with it and disgusted by it daily. My own county in NC was targeted by PETA because conditions were so bad in the animal "shelter ". Hidden cameras, media, secret visits, etc. The county was FORCED to build a new much needed shelter! (Disclaimer: I don't not condone PETA) It's deeply ingrained in many that "man has dominion over animals" and this is their justification for animal neglect & cruelty. This makes for unsurmountable odds. Just know that there are hard working animal advocates down here. We know how bad it is, and not all of us are idiots. As far as this kind of rescue, I'm of the opinion that if helps some dogs then who are we to judge. Let them have at it. Life is short. (Jul 26, 2009 | post #109)
I love how all the pro-spankers are so proud and cocky about hitting a child, for example Opinion wrote this: "A spanking isn't abuse by the way it is called "responsible parenting". Try it you might knock some of that smart ass attitude out of them!" Wow. Just wow. Responsible parenting is to knock that smart ass attitude out of them? Clearly this is bragging, boasting, and HAPPY about the opportunity to punish. How derisive, derogatory, smug. Maybe if OPINION had treated his/her child as a human deserving of respect from day one, then the child wouldn't have a "smart ass attitude". These are abusers that claim "ownership " of their children. Their children have no rights to their own bodies or their minds, they're controlled with the threat of violence. This parent thinks his children OWE him respect because he's the father/mother and the bigger person. That whole attitude is abusive. F**k that!Respect is earned. What you're getting might appear to be respect, but it's only fear. Eventually the fear will be replaced with resentment and anger. But never respect. Ugh. It's disgusting and pathological on so many levels. It's ignorance. It's lazy. (Jul 25, 2009 | post #410)
