why do people hate the oilfield?

You seem to have a few misconceptions about what I do for a living. I'm not attempting to glorify my profession by no means, but it is an essential part of a standard of living we have all become accustomed to. I work, on average, 100+ hours a week. My company does not run shifts. We are there until we are done and then it's on to the next one. And in reply to your comment about us being "uneducated " and "5th grade dropouts" is literally showing your ignorance on the subject. Yes, there are stupid people out here. But there are stupid people in every walk of life. And as in every walk of life, those people don't amount to much. They remain the laborers. We can't all be chiefs. As for the people that move up the ladder, most are extremely educated in mathematics and, believe it or not, physics and chemestry. They have to be or people die. As for myself, I have a bachelors degree in graphic design and also could have worked in any state. I was smart enough to go get the money while it's there and have a fall back plan. I have one kid and, yes, my wife is a stay at home mom. That's the most beneficial part of my job. As for food stamps, never been on them. We've always just made it work even at our worst. Hopefully this will enlighten you just a bit on the subject. Whether you change your view or not, I could care less. But if you're going to hate something, at least be remotely knowledgeable about it  (Dec 29, 2012 | post #265)

I heard there was a cop, debutante, adulterer, meth head, small town tycoon, fast food worker, pedophile, town official that's involved with Children's Miracle Network and Al Qaeda and fights babies. It's the damnedest thing and we should all talk about it until the horse is beat beyond dead and into deformation. That way we feel like we've done something today by stating our opinion on a matter that not only doesn't directly affect us, but also no one around us!  (Sep 4, 2012 | post #1)

Precisely. Everyone has some sort of purpose whether it be minuscule or monstrous.  (Aug 8, 2012 | post #188)

Agreed. But I would assume the majority of people that hate the oilfield do not work in any of those fields.  (Aug 8, 2012 | post #186)

It's all moved east to the Geary area. Devon energy alone has a projected 3000 wells to finish by 2018. Not sure how many cimarex is doing but they have a lot of rigs out that way also.  (Jul 1, 2012 | post #151)
