American Airlines' Asian Adventure Starts Now

AAL has about 10 billion dollars in cash. Hawaiian Air? This may be an answer to infuse an AAL presence in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific rather quickly. AMR/AA helped to bail out HA in the early 1990's when they were operating the airline from a checkbook each day and had no spare engines. Remember the AA DC-10s that they leased them to keep them in the air? These planes were retrofitted and painted with HA exteriors here in TULE. Do they owe us one? Maybe!  (Jun 9, 2014 | post #1)

Southwest CEO Vows To Fix On-Time Problem

What works well in Tulsa does not work well in LaGuardia. Time to put your big boy pants on, WELCOME TO THE BIG SHOW! Oh by the way, Spirit, Virgin America, and Allegiant Air are biting at your heels as well, and let's put a little of JetBlue in the mix too.  (Apr 30, 2014 | post #1)

Southwest won't expand fleet through 2015 to reach profit...

Prost, regrettably Southwest didn't foresee the successful merger and integration of the legacy carriers an awakening of multiple sleeping giants. Their revised business plan with the acquisition of Air Tran and the entry into the airports they had shunned for years that are froth with delays put them smack in the middle of the melee that the legacy carriers have been in for years. I too made the comment early on when they decided to enter into LGA, welcome to the 'BIG SHOW'. You can throw your 20 minute turn around times out the window and now, you too can see what the good ol boys have been enduring for years. Notice that their On-Time performance stats have taken a beating because of their dependency on an old scheduling model using the same aircraft for multiple down line connections instead of point to point itineraries. The International routes should be very interesting as well. Are they going to provide an enhanced meal and beverage service? Something new to them as well. And let us not forget the union labor drums getting a bit louder in the background that will put some additional impact on their cost structure.  (Apr 20, 2014 | post #4)

American Airlines' parent earns $289 million in 3rd quarter

I just read the AA/AMR revenue and traffic performance results for October. Very impressive numbers for a company in bankruptcy. Let's see what our takeover partner reports for the same period. So again I ask, who is bringing in the most cash, resources, and value to this merger? It appears that the tail is wagging the DOG.  (Nov 8, 2013 | post #7)

Pam Bondi talks US Airways merger with American Airlines ...

Steve, Exactly what I have been saying all along. When I asked the question 'What Does UsAir bring to the merger? no one replied. This merger may be Doug's solution to save UsAir, not AA/AMR.  (Nov 5, 2013 | post #3)

American Airlines' parent earns $289 million in 3rd quarter

cheapgreek, apparently the AA rank and file drank the Doug Parker Kool-Aid and thought that opposite about AA as it has been portrayed as the evil empire. Again, what has UsAir brought to the table to enable AMR becoming so profitable? I strongly believe the Horton business plan and the change of the AA personnel attitude towards their job and customer has been the catalyst for the significant improvements. I may be wrong, but if the merger is approved, the AA personnel that were so gung ho for change will be crying foul when aircraft maintenance is contracted out, promised salary and employment enhancements are modified to UsAir/America West levels, and so on. Only time will tell. For my fellow AA employees, I hope that I am way off base with my vision of the future New American Airlines.  (Oct 21, 2013 | post #4)

American Airlines' parent earns $289 million in 3rd quarter

In retrospect to the UsAir merger. What role and contributions can be attributed to the UsAir management team in the record AA profits for this past year? From what I hear from my fellow AA employees, the US Airways systems are antiquated. We’re sending AA personnel to UsAir to bring them up to our current automated systems. It appears they need help in running their airline. They still haven’t resolved the America West/UsAir debacle. How can they possibly fix our problems? We seem to be doing just fine without them screwing up our systems and operation. The DOJ decision to block the merger may be the best thing to happen to AA!  (Oct 18, 2013 | post #1)

Robert Crandall on the merger: "I don't get this notion t...

Just wondering, can Crandall testify in the DOJ hearing when AA/UsAir present their arguments for the merger? Who better than Crandall to discuss the industry and the justfication for the merger than he?  (Sep 2, 2013 | post #1)

American Airlines & US Airways Merger - Opposite position...

While the DOJ is blocking the AA/UsAir merger the mega carriers are scrambling to form new alliances to essentially dominate the critical and profitable markets. More reason for the DOJ to step aside and let the merger proceed as quickly as possible.  (Aug 31, 2013 | post #1)

Delta: Obamacare will cost us $100M in 2014

Now, now............you all know there is a way to scam for airline tickets. Use your Obama EBT Card to barter for tickets, let's say $1.00 buys you .50 cents worth of tickets. They do this for cash, why not for any thing else.  (Aug 23, 2013 | post #2)

Judge in airline merger gets high marks for fair-mindedness

We certainly hope that she is fair-minded and will take into consideration the UA/CO and DL/NW mergers that were quickly approved. Keeping AA and UsAir in limbo will only make matters worse for all the employees and respective companies.  (Aug 22, 2013 | post #1)

NTSB: Southwest jet's nose gear landed first

OldCapt, Plane came in too hot for landing on a short runway with the water staring you in the face. Choices, try a go around if you think it's not too late, or dump it on the runway and take your chances that Boeing designed this plane for Aircraft Carrier landings. Too premature to accuse anyone about poor judgement. Was 'Wi Tu Late' at the controls?  (Jul 27, 2013 | post #6)

NTSB: Southwest jet's nose gear landed first

Has anyone checked the Flight Aware flight tracker data for this segment on 7/22? If not you should. Apparently the flight was late! Scheduled Departure from BNA 2:55 EDT - Actual 3:50 EDT Scheduled Arrival LGA 5:10 EDT - Actual 5:41 EDT Unacceptable for SWA's turnaround times. Pilot in a hurry to land and depart for the next segment? We discussed this in previous posts when SWA decided to fly into the large congested airports. Boys, welcome to the big show!  (Jul 26, 2013 | post #4)

Parent of American Airlines posts $220M profit

US Airways shareholders meet to vote on American merger; ...

Toad, Apparently, you haven't been reading the Forums. The bankruptcy was all due to bad management! AA doesn't have any issues or problems with the unions. Do you recall the mechanical meltdown last September when the pilots threw a hissy fit because of the unreasonable management demands. Unions weren't the reason for their temper tantrums and whining. It was MANAGEMENT! Let's see what the New American promises the AA guys then stand back and watch the America West and Us Air pilots piss and moan about their contracts. Seems like the eternal dilemma that has plagued mergers for ions.  (Jul 14, 2013 | post #4)
