Holy cow! - I think I can "out" Coolmind! Check it out!

I only extracted the example as simply that...an example. There are quite a few places where the tolerance line is an issue for those of the Conservative Christian bent as it applies to SECAC. Tolerance is not a two-way street in CCPS-related activities. If you do not subscribe to the gender identity issue and similar ideals, you are not welcomed in my view. That is not tolerance. Look at how you played your response - if I have to "opt-out " you will welcome me back later? Why should I have to opt-out of a group that my taxes help to fund?  (Dec 14, 2010 | post #14)

OK...that's reasonable enough. I have been to meetings and am not pleased that the Special Education programming is mixed with Family programming that includes "gender identity" without an opt-out for those who do not want their children exposed to such teachings. The same programming has similar problems with other "faith-based " areas. I am not speaking of issues of Church and State, just matters of tolerance for both sides of the proverbial fence. When I have brought these issues to the table in the past, I have been ridiculed. For example, in the email you sent just today you offer information from the Family Voices website which lists "Family Voices as an organization, operationally defines "Diversity " as valued differences based on ethnicity, age, socio-economic status, religion, language, national origin, political belief, creed, race, color, sex, height, weight, geographic location, disability, GENDER IDENTITY, marital status, and veteran status; and "Cultural Competency" as a fluid, on going life-long process that involves the individuals within the network's ability to think, feel, and act in ways that acknowledge, respect and build upon ethnic, socio-cultural, and linguistic diversity allowing individuals to work effectively cross-culturally. (emphasis added)". How can I actively support SECAC when it does not fall in line with the values I want to impart to my children?  (Dec 13, 2010 | post #12)

Karen (from Boston, MA?) - relax. I was wrong. I'm trying to figure out how to delete this thread. I know you are the Chair for SECAC and I know your email since I receive emails from you already. The disagreements that I have are not important to the overall cause or I would have brought them to you personally.  (Dec 10, 2010 | post #9)

Jess a.k.a. LeadSled1. Glad to hear it! Even if I disagree with Karen on some of the things that she sends on behalf of SECAC, I was hoping deep down that this wasn't her. Take care.  (Dec 10, 2010 | post #7)

North East Christmas Parade - Marching Band Results!!!

OK...I'm not trying to debate you either but you made a point about NEHS stepping up and looking the part. How do you justify paying hundreds of dollars for guard uniforms that are used once per season? The band itself (Perryville's that is) wears their old uniforms for the Christmas parade - the Blue Crew wanted to show off their new uniforms but could have worn their old unis as well. The only difference is the guard uniforms. Both bands wore the same Santa hats and decorated their instruments in the same fashion. I'm just not following your point. With the exception of the guard wearing the same guard uniforms they've worn for the past 4 seasons that are Christmas-specific , there was no difference in the presentation. I'm good on the spirit angle - I just believe that NEHS doesn't get a fair shake from its hometown - 5 state championships and no mention in the local newspaper for any of them (Perryville has been in on numerous occasions). The same goes for Elkton. Just a point of view though. ALL of the County-wide athletics were pictured today of course.  (Dec 7, 2010 | post #7)

Cheryl Hite (Foster Parent) - Kills Two Rescue Dogs

It's hard, dog person, to do that when it's a friend who doesn't deserve to be blasted with her email address across two states plus the web by a whackjob who puts dogs before humans.  (Dec 6, 2010 | post #20)

North East Christmas Parade - Marching Band Results!!!

Respectfully, I ask the following questions: 1. Why does a marching band need to have a different uniform for this parade? The only reason Perryville has these extra uniforms is because they play for the Holly Tree ceremony. 2. The "town" doesn't pay for anything for the band at all. It is the district that does the paying. 3. Having said the above, considering the Blue Crew was wearing their BRAND NEW uniforms for the first time in the Christmas parade and is marching a 2-year-old percussion line and a horn line that is less than 5-years old, I think that the finances are in decent shape (thanks primarily to the undying efforts of their band boosters). Musical preferences and costumes aside, the superior bands were NEHS and EHS followed by Perryville then Rising Sun tied (at most) for third.  (Dec 6, 2010 | post #5)

What everyone here fails to see is that posting her personal information leads to folks overreacting in equally egregious ways. Do we really believe that these actions, despicable as they seem to some of you, are worth the type of overreaction toward more serious harm that some people are prone to? The only steps that should have been taken here are legal ones - not physical ones and that's what I'm afraid will happen.  (Dec 6, 2010 | post #11)

What is wrong with you people? You are certainly within your rights to be angry about this situation. However, posting someone's personal email and all of this is way beyond the pale. I have known Cheryl for nearly 20 years. She is a clear-thinking wonderful woman who ALWAYS does what she feels is the right thing for all parties involved. To come on a blog site and leave anonymous messages about her without being willing to leave your own email addresses for response is lower than low.  (Dec 5, 2010 | post #4)

North East Christmas Parade - Marching Band Results!!!

Are they kidding? I know that these people aren't professional judges or anything but...are they kidding me? Soooooooo tired of seeing NEHS playing second fiddle to PHS when they are clearly a superior program. PHS is surely a fine program with many titles to show for their efforts and their kids are great. That being said, NEHS dominates their schedule every season, only being defeated by bands with 4-5x the budget ON OCCASION. And don't even get me started on the level of music difficulty. NEHS kids are marching to music that PHS kids would struggle to play sitting down. Look at how the NEHS kids do when they compete in the concert band levels for the state as compared to others. Rant over for now...! Oh...p.s. Elkton blew both Perryville AND Rising Sun off the street today as well...not even a mention? Heck, NEMS Band rode in a trailer and played better!  (Dec 4, 2010 | post #1)

How to fix our schools

To John Brooks... [quote] "Some of the high schools need remodeling bad. Perryville doesnt even had enough lockers." [quote] While I certainly understand where you are coming from relating to the BRAC issue and Perryville, don't get my wrong, OK? - the two schools in CCPS that need renovation are North East High and Middle. Neither has been on the district's listing (for large projects) since the early 1980s. PHS doesn't have enough lockers? Do they have main stairways that literally flood when it rains? Do they have a football stadium that should be condemned? Does NEHS have an auditorium for its multi-award winning music and theatre departments? (Yes, these are not all essentials for everyday learning...just thinking of things off the top of my head...there's plenty more in the day-to-day range as well at both schools.).  (Dec 4, 2010 | post #37)

Do we do enough for the most able kids?

Cecilian...nicely said! AFP...Your first mistake was trusting NEA Today to write about anything meaningful. It's a teachers' union rag. That's all.  (Nov 28, 2010 | post #4)
