Loma Linda revisits red-light cameras

How much time did you save by not coming to a full stop? Was it worth it? What if, while you were looking left for **** in traffic, a young kid on a bike rolled in front of you... would it be worth it? You're just mad you got caught. Man up, admit you were wrong, take your punishment, learn from it, stop rolling lights and signs, and move on. All that being said.. a sincere thanks for your service to our country.  (12 hrs ago | post #13)

One killed and one wounded in Monrovia shooting

I'm would guess you are a hard working decent person; however, the "rest of us" are not all paying taxes. As a matter of fact, the bottom 50% of income tax filers only pay 1% of the total dollars collected. So, basically half of the people (who actually file income tax returns) pay no tax. And this doesn't include the non-negligible number of people who work under the table or are otherwise unreported. The top 4% of earners pay 65% of all taxes, and the top 1% pays half of all income tax dollars collected. I'm guessing this is part of the reason why folks "up north" get a little bunged up... they work hard to get ahead and move to a nice area (rarely does "luck" or "being lucky" have anything to do with it)... then they hear the gigantic s.ucking sound of the taxman, they hear of endless social programs for people who refuse to take care of themselves, then have hooligans just down the hill degrading everyone's quality of life.. a life many of us (you included) are working hard to have.  (14 hrs ago | post #68)

Trend of fewer whites expected to continue in San Bernardino Co...

Hey, he should encourage me... folks in my tax bracket (and above) account for the top 1% of the total number of tax filers in the state, yet we contribute 50% of all income tax dollars collected. Yes, the top 1% pays 50%! Plus, I (and others in my neighborhood) employ the housekeepers, gardeners, nannies, the handymen, neighborhood patrolman, etc. We are a one neighborhood stimulus package. You could use more folks like us in San Berdoo... there'd be less unemployment ~8^) Plus, we keep our houses neat, our yards beautiful, our trees properly pruned (not cheapo hack jobs), we get together in neighborhood associations and holiday get togethers, we watch each others backs, we call in all suspicious activity, we are active in city and charitable organizations... we don't leave trash in our neighborhoods, no shopping carts, no broken down cars, no cars in the lawns (most all cars are in garages), no chickens or little doggies wandering about, no peeling paint, no unruly kids...  (14 hrs ago | post #224)

Guest View: Say `no' to high-rise development

by the way, I just checked the SCAG growth estimates for the City of Industry... it is projected to add roughly 14 more people in the city. So their GP must plan for that. This is a far cry from the 60K that y'all's unincorporated areas must absorb.  (14 hrs ago | post #37)

Have you read any of the gov't material in the links I've provided? Now, the law says that each city's GP must *allow* for this growth, but it does not require that anything be built. So, I could be that Industry's GP has provisions for residential, mixed use developments, but developers have declined the offer because that city is so industrial that they could not command top dollar for their developments... so they go after juicier cities like RH. Trust me, I'm on your side. You can argue with me, point fingers at other cities all you like... but read what is in the State's housing code and SB375, and you will see that the cards are stacked against you. I'm not saying it's futile... I'm saying don't be lulled into a false sense of victory because your neighbors are fighting the city planners. There's a bigger gorilla behind the curtain pulling the strings.. so watch out!  (15 hrs ago | post #36)

Proposed urgent care facility for eastern Pasadena gets $3.2 mi...

Way to go Pasadena. You continue to stick businesses smack dab in the middle of residential areas... chopping our neighborhoods up into tiny little chunks. This city is so PATCHY, it's gross. You'll find large multi-story apartment buildings next to single story homes. You'll find million dollar homes two blocks away from mini-ghettos. You'll find people living right next to auto repair shops. The worst city plan of any city I've ever seen... and y'all keep making it worse. If my wife wasn't born here, with family here, we would have bolted long ago. I may have to get divorced just so I can leave.  (18 hrs ago | post #1)

Police patrols will help, but they can't be everywhere at everytime. The community must really learn to police itself. Neighbors know who the bad guys are, and they need to be on the phone with the po-po everytime they see something strange. The COMMUNITY must STEP UP.  (18 hrs ago | post #42)

First, plenty of people do these jobs. My gardeners are Japanese. Our nanny is caucasian. Our house cleaners are from El Salvador. I mowed lawns during high school to earn extra dough (as well as deliver newspapers, wash cars, deliver pizzas). Second, shame on you for perpetuating stereotypes about those of Mexican descent that they only do low wage jobs. The best man in my wedding trained as a surgeon at STANFORD (for you Tony ;)  (19 hrs ago | post #207)

If you look at the SCAG population growth estimates, for which your General Plan must be updated BY LAW to provide zoning to accomodate... LA Unincorporated- > Gateway Cities must provide growth from 330K residents to 390K residents. For non-math majors, this is 60K new residents. Rowland Heights will have to absorb it's "fair share" and must update it's General Plan to accomodate... by STATE LAW. Given that y'all are along a major transportation corridor (60fwy), SB375 will ensure that you get a bigger slice of that 60,000 resident slice of pie than other unincorporated areas not along freeways. Citizens must write Sacramento, ie their state reps, and overturn these crazy laws which are destroying our towns. (btw - in Pasadena, we are currently overhauling our General Plan. Community input was strongly against high density. Afterwards, planners admitted that they had to provide high density..it was just a matter of which part of town they would rezone. so basically they told the residents F.U!!)  (19 hrs ago | post #32)

y'all really ought to read the links I provided in a previous post. You will see that state laws mandating density are not in your favor. The City of Pleasanton had a CITIZEN VOTE to limit density. Attorney General Jerry Brown is suing the city for limiting growth. Good luck. But the only real way to fight this is to fight Sacramento.  (19 hrs ago | post #30)

The cards are stacked against you, Doe. State laws are in place that will effectively force (or give license to ) cities to build such high density developments. Here are some links: (read them and weep) State's Housing Site: www.hcd.ca.gov/hpd READ: "How to Strengthen Communities" http://www.hcd.ca. gov/hpd/hrc/plan/h e/hsg_strategies_r iverside050307.pdf READ: How local planners can combate NIMBY of their residents: http://www.hcd.ca. gov/hpd/nimby.htm READ: "Myths and Facts" http://www.hcd.ca. gov/hpd/mythsnfact s.pdf READ: about population mandates and your RHNA (growth) numbers http://www.scag.ca .gov/Housing/rhna/ index.htm Excel Spreadsheet with Growth Estimates: http://www.scag.ca .gov/forecast/down loads/excel/RTP07_ CityLevel.xls SCAG (who comes up with population estimates that cities have to build for): www.scag.ca.gov http://www.hcd.ca. gov/hpd/hrc/plan/h e/ca_plan_law_affd _hsg0506.pdf READ: how Attorney General is sueing the city of Pleasanton for failing to comply with state mandates: http://www.jerrybr own.org/node/528 Go actually read some of the state's housing law for yourself... codes: 65580 thru 65589.8 You can find the info here: http://www.leginfo .ca.gov/calaw.html Put "65580" into the search box and click "all" and "search" ... read what is mandated and read how failure to comply opens the city up to litigation.  (Yesterday | post #15)

ha haa, that's pretty funny. A couple of undergrad courses and now you're an expert. ha haa And you took "computer science" too, huh? Bet you are a computer expert, too? ha haaa And, just so you don't go around popping off about computer science.. actual universities have entire degree programs in computer science... for instance, Stanford (where I did my graduate work in computer science), they don't even have a course called "computer science". You are cracking me up, though, with your knowledge of the world learned thru an undergraduate level macroeconomics class. Ha haa, nice one! #include "idiotDef.h " class **** { public: **** (string name); private: string name; } // instantiate obj d=new **** ('Mr-Henry');  (Yesterday | post #176)

4 hikers saved after being trapped overnight

Very bad judgement. Especially given that this is one of the first substantial rains since the repair of the Mt Wilson Toll Road landslide just above Eaton Canyon. There is little growth in the newly reworked areas to stabilize the soil. This coupled with LA's first major storm in a while put this outing in the "extremely poor judgement" category.  (Monday Dec 14 | post #5)

High density development proponents, which includes the builder's lobby (BIA), realtor's association (CAR), affordable housing advocates... as well as state housing laws that even spell out a "high density BONUS" in the laws.. are RUINING California. Hey, at least in y'alls area, the General Plan was written with community input. Here in Pasadena, they just finished gathering community input... and have publicly stated they will ignore it because we wanted to curb high density housing. Planners said, too bad.. high density is coming whether you like it or not!!  (Monday Dec 14 | post #1)
