'Heroes' rescue 3 children in pond

okay. So it appears that the whole Susan Smith thing is running through a lot of our minds. How in the world can you leave the vehicle knowing your babies are in it!?? Instant remorse? I know she must have been in shock somewhat, but c'mon...... I am soooo glad those men were there to get those kids out. How do you flip a van? Really. How? Those things are so wide and bottom heavy. Aren't vans made not to tip? Unless you're going too fast, or not paying attention.... ie: texting, cell phone,... I got in a small wreck with my kids years ago, and my first instant reaction was to check on my kids and get them out and away from the car. I just don't get it......  (Oct 18, 2007 | post #13)

Foreclosures leave painful ripple effect

what is sad is that a lot of people who went with lenders from smaller companies have had their arms and other loans bought out from other companies that are huge conglomerates. Now they don't have a personal rep, a local office, or anyone who cares about the problems they've run into..this is a domino effect. It's got to stop somewhere. a r ms will be arund for a looooonnnnggg time. Maybe some of the honest folks who did mortgages will open up education centers and programs for mortgages and consumers in a larger number, so people will be better educated about financing, etc. Running out and buying houses from "burger flippers" that are in over there heads will only get us into bigger trouble. Just imagine how bad this is in states that are even slower and worse off than FL.  (Oct 15, 2007 | post #70)

Big venue bidders court firms owned by minorities

I don't live in Fort Meade. They keep changing my town on my posts. don't know why. I've always been in Orlando. Contractors are known for being"good ole boys" they wouldn't use someone other then their buddies and family unless they were forced to. Gives everyone the chance to compete and provide for their families. I don't have a problem with that. Neither should anyone else who is good at their job.  (Oct 15, 2007 | post #20)

This is not a good time to buy, UNLESS> you have perfect credit, at leat 20%, and seriously buy at what you can easily afford. Not the whole "it's really what I want so I'll stretch it a little " scenario. That is what has gotten so many into big trouble . That and the equity loans. If we can all just tighten our bootstraps, and hold on for awhile...(at least one more year) we might make it through this country-wide fiasco without a huge recession. I don't know how anyone 80 yrs. old is going to be able to manage this kind of mess without someone stepping in and paying them what they need.  (Oct 15, 2007 | post #34)

thank you gator seig for trying to bring some topic based figures and common sense into a board that seems determined to be demeaning to both the minority and democratic parties that are involved. It is a shame that something so strong and positive for our community takes a beating from a group of people who don't even live or work in the affected area.  (Oct 15, 2007 | post #16)

Hospitalized, then homeless

This weekend there will be a small advertisement in the Orlando Sentinel asking for the return of a frog urn that was "accidnetally " included in the collection of Mr. Heinzes personal belongings. It isn't much, but it's all I can do to help at this time. So, for anyone else who may think I'm an **** , ...stand and deliver.  (Oct 4, 2007 | post #120)

Iraq's toll on state is worst since 2005

hey grandma fudd... you were already sick if you are a bush supporter. Maybe you'll find the cure in the oil fields of Texas. Or Iraq. Meanwhile, why don't you go get that medicare supplemented prescription for dementia? And check on those plummeting stocks, and those skyrocketing mortgage and insurance rates. But I guess if you're a Bush supporter, that little things like that don't bother you. You must be above all that.  (Oct 4, 2007 | post #12)

I am amazed that there are still republicans out there who are still trying to sell the Bush machine. I don't care what generation you are from ,or what state . There has got to be a time when even the most stubborn and inept of your party simply accept the truth. The person brought into the White House 8 years ago lied to you, and is still lying. You are each and every one of you who voted for him personally responsible for all those lives being lost, because you didn't ask questions, you simply followed the party line. Maybe now that Floridians are actually beginning to feel the affects of the Iraq war, they'll wake up and vote in the 2008 election to get rid of the Republican regime, and all the death and destruction it brings with it. I just feel sorry for any family living in FL who has already lost a mom , dad, or child , and is reading a story that is basically saying that it didn't hurt or matter to anyone before now, but since we've been so hard hit, now it matters. How insensitive to the families of these lost soldiers.  (Oct 4, 2007 | post #11)

Amber Alert issued for missing 15-year-old girl

Darleen, don't worry.... it's called Karma. It'll come back to them and bite them in the butt. Ignorance and contempt are the trademarks of a bitter and hollow person. Pity them for the misery that they perpetuate around themselves.  (Oct 2, 2007 | post #15)

Hospitalized, then homeless

I have been wondering about something . How many of you posting would actually , physically, do something, anything, to help this man. Now, I'm not talking anything huge, like :here... I have a cheap, empty place you can rent out while you get back on your feet, or here, I'll put out an ad in the papers with a photo to find your wifes ashes,.. I mean something small. Here, let me help your doggie by giving you some mild dog food to help her tummy while she's adjusting. Here, I have some tupperware. Use it how you need . Here, I've got a space in my little pennysaver magagzine, I'll advertise to get your urn back. These are not huge things, but can set the motion forward for this man, this person who has served many of us for years, who was a devoted husband, and business owner who made poor choices, and got caught in a spiral. And as for alllll you "tough guys" out there.. pray this doesn't happen to you, or that your fate doesn't somehow fall into the hands of others who do not care about you or yours. We all live in glass houses nowadays, and best not to cast stones.  (Oct 2, 2007 | post #36)

Amber Alert issued for missing 15-year-old girl

lets get a photo of the guy up sentinel. He knows amber alert system puts up kids pics,; preds know the system. Once we get the girl ack, then put her and her parents in counseling. It is OBVIOUS that this is a family in trouble. p.s. lots of times when girls act up like this, (heavier make-up and sexually promiscous) it's a cry for the fathers attention, not the mothers. yeah, mom and dad let her act out that way, but maybe they were not shown any better way of parenting. once again...counseling.  (Oct 2, 2007 | post #9)

Frostproof struggles with growing or disappearing

So, the wealthy and prominent family who has the most and really doesn't have anything to sweat tells all the folks who are losing their lively hoods not to worry, because 60 years ago this happened, and they survived just fine...except that half the town was lost, and the world doesn't work the same way it did 60 years ago. Nice to live in a protected world and see it through rose-colored glasses. Mind if we borrow those in the bread line? then maybe things wont' seem so bad. growth is inevitable, unless you actually fight against it. How you grow is what defines you as a town, and community. there is such a thing as "smart growth " and if you have the right-minded leaders, then it is possible to look forward to a future, instead of sitting in your porch rockers watching all your neighbors move away or die off. If you have no businesses, you have no families, no families, is no schools, or groceries, or hospitals, etc, etc... town death sneaks up on you before you know what happened. Good Luck, FrostProof  (Oct 1, 2007 | post #13)

2 students shot dead had sought cops' help

The police are to blame for this. stop trying to be politically correct. we should all be mad as heck. It is not just another sa tragedy. It is our local cops not anting to get involved, and possibly get shot. tough cookies. Put on a vest and go get your suspects. I'm sick and darn tired of hearing about all these really good kids and young people getting shot. I have never been pro-gun, but you have to admit, that if someone in that house had been armed, then the little pisser would've been stopped. If he had been upset since august, then this entire mess has been premeditated. Now We'll have to pay our tax dollars to support his sick **** for the rest of his miserable effed up life. GREAT.  (Sep 27, 2007 | post #173)
