Don't sell us out

Why doesn't Lennar step up to the plate and help get the theater at Rodman Center on Mare Island into acceptably functional condition. it is quite possibly the best-equipped theatrical facility in the north bay, certainly in Vallejo.  (Dec 19, 2010 | post #11)

A new era for old-school muckraking

The good news is that nobody knows about the New York Observer, and nobody ever heard of Joe Conason. And, rightfully, no one should care about either.  (Dec 19, 2010 | post #8)

Put reason before fear

Exactly right on EVERY point. And then our President bows before a hereditary Arab Muslim thug king. And then the American people are advised by our President that America could 'absorb' another 9/11-scale attack. And now the Federal government under this President are telling us how to protect ourselves in event of a nuclear attack in the United States. Curious sequence of events.  (Dec 16, 2010 | post #8)

Vallejo police say gun used by man killed by officer was ...

This whole story sounds rather dicey. No eyewitnesses, a delay in describing the weapon (what? until some unregistered handgun cuold be rustled out of property?). Different description of the 'shooter'. Self-defense? Against what? Was a shot fired at the police? We demand the facts.  (Dec 16, 2010 | post #46)

Cut, or punt?

Of all things, the libraries should NOT be touched. Libraries are the greatest civic gathering places, and they are a very practical resource for the people of Solano County, particularly in touch economic times when employment stability is at a minimum and residents need to maintain & gain the knowledge to keep or obtain jobs, or to start or improve a business. Another poster is quite righ---get rid of ALL the $200,000 salaries in county government. And we DO mean all of them. The library is a great engine of democracy and learning. But one thing--the library must stop buying Spanish-language books & CDs. This is America, and English is the language here. One would not expect to find English-language books in Guadalajara, any more than I would expect to operate freely in Mexico without immigration documentation!  (Dec 16, 2010 | post #3)

Dredging of Mare Island Strait needed by ship dismantler ...

So when is the 'Artship' going to go into this operation to be dismantled? It's been sitting at Mare Island for years, rotting. It has no discernible owner. It's taking up space & blocking the view.  (Dec 14, 2010 | post #5)

Authorities identify man killed by Vallejo police in week...

Why is there an autopsy? The cause of death is obvious. Run some substance screens & be done with it. Cutting bodies apart who die from being shot is ridiculous.  (Dec 14, 2010 | post #77)

This time, prosecution isn't the answer

free radical is, like the others, a nitwit and a liar. It is always interesting that guys like Assange always choose to attack the United States. But why isn't Assange getting internal government communications from other countries such as Saudi Arabia, Syria, Leganon, Iran, Egypt and Pakistan? We know the answer: Assange & his ilk are cowards, and would not think of putting themselves in the way of fatwahs and jihadist retribution against infidels. It is much easier to attack the United States and its people rather than to take on the world's evil-doers. Assange is, quite simply, a cowardly dirtbag of no importance.  (Dec 13, 2010 | post #7)

This time, prosecution isn't the answer

How do know that Wikileaks--Assange --did not make the deal with Manning to copy the documents; i.e., Assange was the ringleader. In other words, Wikileaks received all these documents because Assange paid for their delivery, made the deal with Bradley to go after them. This story is FAR from played out. We can only hope that the government does not screw up this case as was done in the Pentagon Papers case. Daniel Ellsberg & Noam Chomsky should have gone to prison for espionage but were not prosecuted because bumbling Federal officials spoiled the case, and a technicality saved them from years if righteous imprisonment; they are not heroes. And neither is Assange.  (Dec 13, 2010 | post #3)

Vacaville boy, 14, suspected in horrifying attack on girl...

What is the surname of the perpetrator, and is English his first or second language--or any language? What prompted the attack? The dirtbag is a bloodthirsty pervert. Take out the trash.  (Dec 13, 2010 | post #10)

A woman of courage and strength

Far too much is being made of this story. She was the wife of a former Senator and disgraced presidential candidate, and that's about it. Many women die each day from the same illness, and there is nothing exceptional about the 'battle' Elizabeth Edwards fought. The media would have us believe that this is notable because of who she was married to, disgraced though he was.  (Dec 11, 2010 | post #2)

'That's a Family' protesters miss the point

America has evolved an essentially mongrel culture. The rise of profanity, aggression & dispute with authority among children has been noted & is notable. On the question of showing this film, it seems fine to establish an opt-out option, but a parent(s) can only opt out if they attend a screening of the film AND STAY IN THAT SCREENING for the entire film. And screenings of the film for parents should be done from time to time. And how about having the film on DVD that can be checked out by a PARENT at the school library (Hmmm, do schools still HAVE libraries?).  (Dec 11, 2010 | post #2)

Get to the truth

After Obama was elected, remember when Nancy Pelosi, the mental aberrant, proclaimed "We won!". By which she was telling us that she & her ilk in Congress were going to begin to transform the United States into, well, something other than what it has been. Pelosi saw the election of the first black President as a signal that the liberal Progressive agenda was going to burst forth and transform this horrible, terrible country, and its horrible, terrible people. Pelosi is elected by a concentration of Progressive wingnuts in San Francisco who have no concept of America or the world in which we live. Kick Pelosi to the curb and ignore her blathering & manipulations.  (Dec 10, 2010 | post #6)

Track ownership dispute ends Mare Island rail service for...

As has been the case with rail service to & on Mare Island since Lennar wanted to shut it ALL down and rip out the tracks a couple of years ago, this latest episode is quite bizarre. It managed to convince the City of Vallejo to shut down all rail service in Vallejo, not just Mare Island, until the Alstom deal popped up and some tax revenue opportunity appeared. So now Alstom is unable to conduct the business they leased a 112,000 square foot building for (from Lennar), and invested a million bucks into the facilities, is unable to fulfill its contract with Amtrak. Look out Fairfield, here they come!  (Dec 10, 2010 | post #6)

Vallejo increases rents for ferry building space, entitie...

On what basis is a 50% increase of rent justifiable--in THIS economy?! Is Vallejo BOOMING?! I don't think so. This is precisely why businesses shut down & leave this town.  (Dec 8, 2010 | post #17)
