3,600 LAUSD workers 'bumped' to new jobs

Sorry guys, we're in a recession. Time for everybody, even govt union workers, to share in the sacrifice. Life doesn't come with guarantees, no matter what the union claims.  (Dec 1, 2010 | post #7)

Holidays turn to survival as jobless benefits end

You might think that Obama's number one, two, and three priority would have been jobs, jobs, and jobs. But no -- our doofus President spent his first 2 years cramming ObamaCare down our throats. That and playing golf or seeing the sights in India. Oh well, just two more years of the "Great Recession" and then we can elect somebody else who remembers that phrase "its the economy, stupid".  (Dec 1, 2010 | post #26)

Well, I hope the strategy works. I have to agree that electing Whitman might have just slowed things down and also give the media someone besides the Democrats to blame.  (Nov 30, 2010 | post #651)

Lets just say "illegal immigrants", OK? Thats what they are. And for the most part, illegal immigrants are illiterate or close to it. The new economy requires knowledge workers -- even in the trades, a lot of education is required before a worker is cost-effective. So the typical illegal immigrant is forced to work jobs that pay the least. And its NOT like they assimilate either - illegals overwhelm certain geographic locations, insist on importing their language and culture, and basically turn that piece of America is Little Mexico. Yes, the world has changed. And California is NOT doing a good job of keeping up. That's why the good jobs continue to flow overseas. Why should a company locate to this state? Until you can answer that basic question, our poor state is doomed.  (Nov 29, 2010 | post #626)

No, you're wrong. The Rust Belt is named because its once-booming economy collapsed and never recovered. And your claim about FDR is just backwards -- you need to bone up on your history. It was the un-ending govt spending that lengthened the depression. That you got this backward kind of damages your credibility. Again, all this will become clear in a year or so. Meanwhile, prepare for bad times in California. It won't last forever, but to re-ignite the economy we have to attract producers and severely cut back on giving money to the takers. That requires massive cutbacks of useless govt jobs, taxes, and regulation. All of which Democrats oppose....  (Nov 29, 2010 | post #625)

But have you offered anything but opinion either? Again, what CHANGES will Jerry Brown and the controlling Democrats make to fix the current plight? I say NONE, since their agenda is EXACTLY why we're in this mess. What do you say? And the rest of the country WILL recover because they're elected people who WILL make changes -- such as cutting back spending, keeping taxes low, etc.  (Nov 28, 2010 | post #604)

You just restated your dream, but didn't give any reasoning to support it. Why will unemployent be down? Because we have even more illegal immigrants? Why will deficits shrink? Because even more of us will lose our jobs and leave the state because of insane taxes?  (Nov 28, 2010 | post #603)

But why would any of this happen? What's ruined California is the confluence of a number of things: unchecked illegal immigration, high taxes, bad business climate, shrinking number of jobs, insane govt spending, and greedy govt unions that ruin everything they touch. All of these problems are part of the Democrat agenda! We're going to get more illegals, higher taxes, more unions, more spending, and more regulations on "evil" business. I agree most of the other states are due for a big rebound. But those states (Texas, say) aren't being run by Jerry Brown and people like him. We'll know soon, but I think its far more likely we'll continue the slide, emulating East Coast states like New York in the 80s. It will take years to recover, if ever.  (Nov 27, 2010 | post #587)

Cooley concedes to Harris in state attorney general's race

In the past, California Republicans were able to block the insane budgets Democrats wanted. Our legislature always missed its deadlines because the budgets had to be pared back to levels the few remaining Republicans would accept. After November, Democrats no longer need a 2/3 majority to pass the budget. They don't even need all Democrats to pass whatever insanity they want. As with ObamaCare, they can jam anything they want down our throats. The only thing keeping them in check is the governor -- but even that's gone Democrat. This is why I'm so negative about the economic climate here, for at least 2 years. We're already 20+billion in debt for just next year. It will take about a year for the full disaster to become apparent.  (Nov 27, 2010 | post #48)

Time for L.A. to pay the toll?

Agreed Neil. But here in California, those politicians are known as Democrats. There are no Republicans in positions of power, as you know from the last election. As a promoter of Brown and Democrats Neil, you should be the first to understand their need for more money. After all they have union pensions and salaries to pay for. If you wanted frugality in govt, Neil, you supported the wrong party. Its going to be a long 2 years until we can re-visit the election.  (Nov 25, 2010 | post #2)

Nobody denied the voters elected all Democrats from top to bottom in California! Just as nobody denied that voters in other states removed Pelosi and Democrats from controlling the House. What I said was that when the roof caves in here, nobody can deny its the fault of Democrat leadership in California. There simply are NO Republicans to blame it on. Even you won't be able to spin the upcoming economic "dislocations " on anybody but Democrats. I'm sure you'll try, of course. Kamala is famous for her kid glove treatment of killers, protection of illegals, and constant rendition of her "multi-cultur al" background. Read up on the woman, she's a fraud. But again, all this will be clear in the months to come.  (Nov 25, 2010 | post #20)

Wednesday's Letters to the Editor

You're both missing the key point. How many terrorists have TSA spotted/captured using their "methods ". The answer is ZERO (as in none). Look, the terrorists (aka muslim radicals) can chalk up a win on their side. They have us groping each other or absorbing xrays out of fear. Meanwhile, not a single terrorist even has to show up in a line someplace. Not one! Its always like this with bureaucracies. While they inspect our junk, the terrorists are probably coming in via the open borders (north and south). Its not like the border guards are even stopping illegals or drugs.  (Nov 24, 2010 | post #19)

It completes the Democrat take-over. There are NO republicans in any seat of power. Not a single one. So when the roof caves in, only one party will be held accountable. Kamala Harris is yet another liberal. She is opposed to the death penalty, supports illegal immigration, sanctuary cities, and that usual nonsense. Her main qualifications are her parents. Female, African-American, Indian-American, and Asian-American. She's gotten ahead on EEOP like nobody else! I think she fits right in.  (Nov 24, 2010 | post #6)
