Special Interest Courses at UCC Elizabeth Jan/Feb 2012

Special Interest Courses by the Union County College Continuing Education Program---- Jan/Feb 2012 Sponsored by the Fine Speakers Bureau(tm) <http://www.fin espeakers.com> * How to Prepare and Deliver Effective Speeches Elizabeth Campus, Mon. 1/23 and 1/30/11, 6-9pm The ability to excel as a presenter who achieves outstanding results is an essential skill, whether you conduct meetings, give small-group presentations or deliver keynote speeches. This skill is critical to professionals because they rely on communication to get things done. You will learn effective strategies and techniques for preparing and delivering speeches that are effective, present a message that sticks, and focus on your purpose. Course: AEBU 052 Sec 216. * Learn How to Be Good at Impromptu Speaking Elizabeth Campus, Mon 2/6 & 2/13/11, 6-9pm Can you think and speak on your feet with confidence? Everyone makes impromptu speeches, but not everyone is effective or good at it. Impromptu speaking is something that everyone does constantly— at home, in the community, and at work—in business, social, and interpersonal contexts. For example, you do it in response to a question, when asked to offer an opinion, during a conversation, during interviews, and at meetings. Job interviews and college admittance interviews are well-known high-stakes examples where impromptu skills can make a difference in getting a yes or a no. Impromptu speaking is also used in sales, persuasion, negotiations, conflict resolution, and active listening. If handled correctly, it can diffuse verbal criticism; handled incorrectly it can worsen the situation. In this workshop you will learn tried and successful techniques for impromptu speaking; you will have the opportunity to practice in class and receive immediate personalized feedback; and you learn what works well and what to improve by observing others and listening to the evaluations. Course: AEBU 051 Sec 216. For more information and to register, visit the UCC web site at: <http://www.ucc .edu/noncredit>  (Dec 23, 2011 | post #1)
