I live in one of the closest residences to gumbos and 311 and don't have a problem with either of them. I do have a problem from the stupidity that abounds from intolerance, the mayor doesn't seem to be doing anything about that, so guess, just suck it up butter cup!  (Aug 13, 2013 | post #6)

Smoke Free Cemetery

The cemetery is owned by the city now and being as its government property and you can't smoke in those, I guess it happens by default.  (May 9, 2013 | post #2)

Chances are the Medicare will not cover it but we can't refuse to transport, it falls into the category of abandonment  (May 1, 2013 | post #89)

And Carson you said 1/5 of the population rides an ambulance each year, I said more like a 1/10 and they just do it repeatedly... Bake 2 pies cut one into 5 pieces, the other in 10 which one has the bigger pieces? Your math is sound just not totally accurate.  (May 1, 2013 | post #87)

Oh please don't get it twisted. I understand how and why we do have repeat users, however there is, even in this community, a small minority that use EMS as their own taxi service. Bronston, no there really isn't a cap on how many times.  (May 1, 2013 | post #86)

EMS round 2

Several comments I want to touch base on, I am an insider on this situation, I have run a private service on far less that the 5 million that SPCEMS runs on annually but didn't make near as many runs that we do here and for this county it is not possible to own and operate one, especially if the city invokes their own occupational tax. Again the reason for this post, no one loses here but the general public. All be it I do not agree with the tactics I see no other way to ensure the continuation of EMS making runs into the county with out negotiating with the mayor. Now to those that are retired from this service thank you for blazing the trail. Those that work here now and in surrounding counties thank you for protecting my family when I am not at work. The answer to the question how much do they make, how many runs, ect, EMTs start at 25,980 and paramedics start out at 31,620 last year we made 12,100 and change.  (Apr 29, 2013 | post #79)

First and foremost it's not 216/ mile it's 216 + 10.50 a mile and Medicare will only pay 80% of that figure. Secondly EMTs in the City of Somerset start out full time @ $12.49 paramedics start out at $15.46 why the odd figures you ask? I don't know talk to the city council.  (Apr 23, 2013 | post #45)

You are specifically talking about McCreary County and that's not all factual either, their government robs from Peter to pay Paul  (Apr 23, 2013 | post #43)

If you just paid them minimum wage the salaries are $508,080, as a paramedic or an EMT would you pass over a job making the 15 and 12 respectively the city is already paying here to work for the county? Who would you get to staff it? People talk to your magistrates and demand them negotiate with the city or vote them out before it's to late!  (Apr 22, 2013 | post #34)

This person has told the county that paying EMTs 10/ hour and paramedics 15 and run the county's service 4 trucks a day 24 hours a day the salaries just for the employees is 876,000... What about fuel, upkeep, buildings, utilities, workers compensation, vacations, sick time, disposable equipment, office staff, managers, ect? The county government is not getting the whole story and should at least attempt negotiating with the city.  (Apr 22, 2013 | post #33)

From what I understand it isn't about the shortfall that has been in question as much as it is the city's desire to keep it from happening again. Whereas they are now asking for an increase of 400,000 per year that the county doesn't want to pay. Which is where the break down happens. Someone is feeding the county government information that isn't accurate. They are trying to convince them that they can run a service for less than what they are paying to the city now and why the people in the county need to demand negotiations in the matter start.  (Apr 22, 2013 | post #32)

very important please read

While that may be your opinion, all though unfounded, the fact of the matter remains that the majority of us that post here, understand punctuation, know how to spell, or at least use auto-correct, and can do something besides make slanderous remarks about the other people posting.  (Apr 22, 2013 | post #5)
