Two agree on casino, little else

Wow, I hadn't researched either candidate, but either this article is slanted towards Connelly, or Andoe is really clueless (or benefitting from DWR in some manner.) I guess I'll have to watch the broadcast to find out for sure.  (Friday | post #1)

Mobile meth labs busted in casino parking lot

Ahh.. more positive contributions to the community from the casinos. Smart businessmen though... shortening their time to get the product to market by manufacturing it right where the demand is.  (Friday | post #1)

Chico Kid, you make an excellent ambassador for Chico. Uninformed, overassuming, self-righteous, and obnoxious, passing judgement from your limited-sight position. You son, are a Troll.  (Monday May 12 | post #29)

Letter: Six cats too many for subdivision

This whole thing cracks me up. I live a few lots down from the "Cat Lady". From what I hear, she used to be real bad (I've only lived on this street for 5 years.) But during my time here, it hasn't be a real problem. A cat or two would come into my yard at first and it was a little game to chase them off, but then I realized that they were keeping the rattlesnake population down. There is a certain element of the "senior" crowd up here that will just moan and complain about anything. If they didn't, they'd probably explode. These people have nothing to do due to their advanced state of retiredom, so they drive around finding things to complain about. These same folks are upset that people under 55 can't be excluded from Kelly Ridge and that neighbors grow grass instead of covering their fifth of an acre with 1970s style landscaping consisting of volcanic rock. Now not all the old folks up here are this crowd. You can tell the difference. When working in your yard and you wave, if they smile and wave back they are the nice folks. If the pinch their face even tighter, turn away and ignore you, they're the moaners and complainers. The guy that started all of this fuss came from the city, bought a spec home next to the "cat lady", and later complained of the smell (which is funny, since he sprays his shrubs and such with deer repellent which smells noxious to say the least... oh yeah, I'm sure the deer are next on his list.) When those new neighbors first moved in (maybe last year?) and we tried the neighborly wave on them? Yep, you got it... the "I just drank a glass of pickle juice" face and ignoring typical of the "we don't want you young 'uns around in our retirement community." Well, those "old folks" don't know what their missing because my nice elderly neighbors get free produce including local honey, free help with property upkeep and other odd jobs, and so much more from us "young 'uns" that those other crabby folks are missing out on. You're only as old as you feel!  (Monday May 12 | post #2)

Cats and barking dogs face new rules

To be fair to the supervisors, I did receive this from one of them: "The newspaper story did not include the full, and lengthy ordinance. There is a process, with many steps, for how complaints are handled. The Animal Control Officer is to make a determination if there a problem, or a neighbor-to-neighb or dispute. Also, the fine is not immediately imposed as education is the first step."  (Friday May 9 | post #21)

Letter: Don't blame teachers for deficit

Oh, I don't think anyone is blaming the teachers. All blame rests on the shoulders of the teacher's union.  (Friday May 9 | post #8)

Cats and barking dogs face new rules

The person that started all this latest stuff by getting the ear of the county is at the end of my street. He bought a spec house, moved up from the city, and instantly becomes active in the politics of the POA and County trying to change everything to suit his preferences as he wants his neighbor (known in the neighborhood as "the cat lady") to rid herself of her cats "for her health". He proceeded to trap 17 cats which he is sure are all hers (taking matters into his own hands.) When I told him he should have stayed in the city, he stated I have no right to tell him what he should do. Funny, as he imposes what he thinks people "should" do on his neighbor and is trying to do so on his neighborhood and entire county. Well, if someone is concerned for his health as a smoker, maybe they ought to go grab the cigarettes out of his mouth, the same way he snatched the neighbors cats.  (Friday May 9 | post #20)

Bicyclist runs down 2-year-old girl in downtown Oroville

[QUOTE who="LWright "]Yes Tod, we need to save downtown from the human powered vehicles, and let only good old American pick up trucks roam the streets. Grab your white sheet and pointed hat and lets kick some **** QUOTE] If you are trying to be an ambassador for cycling, using this sort of attitude doesn't really rack up the brownie points. I was considering a family membership to LOBO, but maybe since I drive an American pickup truck I might not be welcome. The problem with the BMXers (technically, I guess they would be more flat-land freestylers) on the sidewalks downtown is currently worse than the skateboarding problem downtown ever was. Something does need to be done. The sidewalks are for pedestrians. Would you like coming around the corner on the Freeman trail and coming face to face with a quad or dirtbike?  (Friday May 9 | post #24)

Subdivision at Oro Bay moves closer

That last paragraph should be re-written as: "In the end, Mayor Steve Jernigan, Vice Mayor Jamie Johansson, and couniclors Sue Corkin and Mike Howard voted yes, while foaming at the mouth chanting "growth, growth, growth!" Councilman Jack Berry and Art Hatley voted no as they were the only ones who kept their wits about them and were concerned with quality of life.  (Friday May 9 | post #2)

Letter: Citizens should make stand against war

Wow, six posts before "Halliburton " came up. I'm very surprised. Well, if the military hadn't been dismantled under Clinton's watch, there wouldn't be the elevated need for contractors to do simple things like deliver meals and other logistical issues that were previously handled by our own men and women in uniform.  (Thursday May 8 | post #10)
