the real henry Profile
I am definitely feeling a certain disenfranchisement over it. I'm now thinking of using my nucyooler option. (Dec 5, 2008 | post #6336)
I reported for weeks one December and was struck from every jury for which I was called. One guy was dismissed the 2nd day because he "looked like Santa Claus" and "it wouldn't be right to have him sitting on a jury in December". (Dec 4, 2008 | post #6323)
I would like to hear anyone's thoughts on the current rash of big business bailouts. It appears to me that these are clear cases of a Reagan-esque trickle down type solution to the economic woes of recent past. The proponents, however, are a mixed bag of those who may have or might support Reagan's policies and those who have been vehement opponents of same. As usual, I suspect corruption in high places. Do I (as a paranoid and fearful libertarian right-wing crack pot) err in my judgement? (Insert therapy session here) (Dec 3, 2008 | post #6292)
I'm thinking that anyone who makes decisions of any import will be subject to lobbying (by some person/s or organizations) sooner or later. The straws thing was just a failed attempt at humour. Concerning reproductive licensing, I can definitely sympathize, but don't think anything like that will ever be implemented. (Dec 3, 2008 | post #6291)
Agree with all of your observations, but differ with some of your conclusions. Education (not indoctrination) is certainly key. (Dec 2, 2008 | post #6270)
Now you're grasping at double-helical (word?) straws. A return to the apprenticeship learning methods would be a positive thing in many disciplines. I like the idea of the professional jurist, tho'. The difficulty there would (as always) be the corruption of it by special interests. (Dec 2, 2008 | post #6269)
Loooong time since that one... yeah. The biggest problem will be finding all the "smart" people. (Dec 2, 2008 | post #6265)
Him's just tryin' (successfully) to work within the original thread envelope... (Dec 1, 2008 | post #6238)
Hadn't heard beforehand, but saw it on the way home from work this eve; obviously two planets - really cool view. Thanks for the info. (Dec 1, 2008 | post #6237)
Point(s) taken. I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to off YOU, Janet. Have a good evening. (Nov 30, 2008 | post #6201)
Whoa!!! Quota seeking detected. Race SHOULD have nothing to do with it. If there are more whites who are sex predators (agreed), it follows that there SHOULD be more whites incarcerated (or otherwise dealt with) on that account. The idea that there should be a racial count kept and adjustments made to verdicts for that reason is not a good one. Buying "justice " is a separate problem, and apparently relates to who has the most money/power/celebr ity. (Nov 30, 2008 | post #6189)
Verily I say unto you, thou speakest as a true pessimist. Henry 10:21 (Nov 26, 2008 | post #6105)
Is the implication that the police in the U.A.E. have no respect for western culture or religion? (Nov 26, 2008 | post #4)
I think that his apparent willingness to appoint whomever he thinks is most qualified speaks well of him. I don't suppose anyone (myself certainly)agrees with all his ideas on appointments, but then it's not our job - it's his. He doesn't take any crap; I like that, too. All these people will implement HIS plans... he just wants his minions to be skilled enough to be able to effect them. Let us not rush to hasty conclusions before the horse is out of the gate. There will be plenty of time to throw things at the horse as it rounds the track... (Nov 26, 2008 | post #5)
