After rescuing 83 dogs in Dixon, SPCA in 'disaster drill' mode
"Roth said that for a couple of years the SPCA has prepared for disasters such as this." "Blankets and towels are desperately needed, since used ones are not being washed and must be discarded, Peterson explained. They could also use puppy food by Kirkland at Costco, Healthwise at Western Ranch Supply, or even baby food of chicken or turkey. Any brand of canned puppy food is also needed as well as cleaning products such as Simple Green and chlorine bleach." Interesting. Is Roth an idiot or does he know how much like an idiot he looks from statements like this in the same article? Nice preparation, you clown. You and Dave Paulson make a good team. "Immediate steps" some two years later? As I said in my comments to the first article, the SPCA is trying to do an enormous job on a miniscule budget using a troglodyte staff incapable and inept in performing the basic job of saving animal lives. I also would like to thank puppymom for exposing the SPCA for its "pot calling the kettle black" routine. The County animal shelter is likewise suspect in performing their duties. So now folks, tell me how this rescue operation helped these little puppies when they are taken to even more crowded conditions without even food and shelter being thought out ahead of time. The SPCA admits they knew the animals were coming. Government is never the answer as has been proven yet again. It would have been far better to let individuals buy these animals and rescue them on their own through their own vet visits. No one can predict where or when these diseases will hit, even at the SPCA or the shelter. Why didn't we shut the shelter down when they had the Parvo outbreak several years ago? Money maybe? Considering that they kill more animals in a month than the parvo did, which is the worse evil? When it comes to the business, "caveat emptor". When it comes to the complaints, there is civil court. If the DA has an actual criminal charge, other than to save us from the evils of gambling, please let's hear what they are. Don't feed us this line "there have been some complaints". Really, how many and what were they? How many dogs purchased from these two died? Give us a number. You would think Pondscum would have had that before incarcerating the puppies. I am not saying that these two individuals are innocent nor am I saying they are guilty. I am simply saying I would have had a lot more releasable data if I were to make the accusation. The answer is not to spay and neuter. The answer is to be responsible. If you want to be a breeder, be one and have your litter spoken for before you produce it. If you just want a pet of a specific breed, look for one at the pound. If you want a show animal, then by all means contact a breeder. I don't need the DA or Dave Roth to rescue me from these people or others like them. If they ran a filthy disgusting shop as claimed, they never would have sold anything and would have been lost their business. Obviously the ones who bought animals from them only got buyer's remorse after the fact. (Saturday | post #13)
Lawyer says couple innocent as officials seize more than 80 pup...
Finally, in response to the guy who wants me to run for President, yes I believe the free market system is far superior to governmental interference with political overtones. I find it extremely interesting that David Pondscum would not stick to the facts of this case but bring in allegations of this couple’s past behavior. If the case is so good, it should be able to rest on its own. The free market allows you to reject the owner’s product if you find it to be sub-par. With the advent of the internet, it is quite simple to black ball poor performers or slander otherwise good people. The civil courts are also another remedy. We don’t need whiners with agenda using the government to create problems for people they are too lazy to take to court. Remember the Texas incident where all the kids were taken away by the “clip haired dykes”, as Michael Savage referred to them, from their parents all because they “thought” something was going on based on some amorphous claim. The Texas Supreme Court overruled the action. So just because “80 puppies” were seized, this doesn’t add validity to the charges. Growup24, I edited your numerous spelling errors and suggest that you spend less time cheerleading and more time actually going out and experiencing life. Try doing some observation instead of bleating with the rest of the sheep … (Friday Dec 18 | post #61)

Yes, I am serious and yes I did the research ... personally… unlike you who just reads about these issues. I attempted to join the Animal Advisory Committee the county formed to look at the shelter’s needs. I attended meetings after I and others were rejected. I listened and commented only to find that new ideas soundly based in logic were rejected. We have what we have today because of people like you, the cheerleaders for these troglodyte filled agencies, such as the SPCA and shelter, who condone what they do because you are too lazy to get involved or to inept to challenge the daily wrongs which occur. There is no “innuendo” here. Attempting to rescue a small Chihuahua gave me great insight into the reality of the situation. Mr. Roth, in his typical elitist style, deigned not to respond to my personal appearance at his real estate office when I was looking for help. Both the shelter and the SPCA did nothing but make certain that this tiny dog would be euthanized, making it extremely difficult for me to even follow it to the SPCA. After this animal had been quarantined at the shelter, the SPCA again quarantined it and refused to let me see it. After complaining that this was the same “bull” that the county put me through, the staff refused to take my number and address for forwarding to the two rescue agencies they intended to place the animal with. I even offered to sign a waiver to keep the dog alive and to take possession of it. This isn’t service. It is disservice. Perhaps you better read the rest of the comments again. It is unclear as to whether the conditions were all that deplorable. I suggest you take a kennel tour at the county and tell me how wonderful it smells there. By the way, they do have new housing for staff but the same crappy kennels as before. I find the commentary on Parvo in the other responses interesting as well as ignorant. Parvo is ubiquitous. Once the dog leaves the facility, it can be picked up anywhere. My friends have new born Rottie pups and they made me take my shoes off. Sounds to me like the shop owners were doing what they reasonably could. If you bring your baby home from the hospital and your unclean relatives come over, can you blame the hospital for your kid’s funky health problems? (Friday Dec 18 | post #60)

What little box? Seems to me this is the pot calling the kettle black? Giardia is "beaver fever" which can be picked up from unchlorinated water sources where those rodents habituate. Dave Roth and his SPCA need to be disbanded. He is irresponsible and his organization is unprofessional. Tell me what you did with "Sweet Pea", Dave, a little chihuahua that your staff claimed was vicious and couldn't be released to the public despite the fact that I was willing to sign a waiver just to keep you from killing it. Your snotty staff is supposed to be making it easy for people to adopt your charges, not more difficult. I was over at the shop while the Solano County crew was working it. I saw animals in cages which weren't overcrowded and they certainly didn't look dirty. I would bet they were treated better and were in more comfortable surroundings than where they will be housed at the Claybank death facility. You people should be horse whipped and that includes that little detestable sawed off sucker that calls himself the DA ... (Friday Dec 18 | post #2)
QUOTE who="Amused "]<quoted text> One word that best describes you = clueless[/QUOTE] While I don't necessarily agree with all of Lillie's comments, it is more than obvious that there are those in local government including the city manager who are working against Scholl. Try explaining away the city manager's reticence to follow government code in putting out legal advertising to bid as required at the beginning of every fiscal year. Don't say she wasn't told because she was. Instead of compliance, she has expressed her concerns about whether the paper is "really" a paper of general circulation or whether "the IV goes out to everyone". This woman is the one who is really "clueless " as the courts of Solano County have given the IV this designation. No, what sticks in Huston's craw and those members of the planning commission who have ties to the Chamber and the DDBA which would be only two people, McCluskey and Wing, is the fact that they actually have to do business or aid in the success of someone who has been critical of city government run the way it has been run. I thought this was America where dissent was not only allowed but encouraged. The fact that the majority of existing businesses in the downtown area have these "cabinet signs" including the ones Murphy listed in her article as also having the new "channelized single letters" is a demonstration that this isn't an attempt to encourage business as much as an attempt to control business. Having a panel of idiots deciding on design with no clue other than what meets their own personal preference is less preferred than limiting signs to a certain size and leaving the content up to the owner. As I said Tuesday night, the guidelines were something promoted by Rob Salaber to further harass the Calvary Chapel Church despite the denials from Jill Orr, our favorite bubble headed bleach blond resident. Freedom is obviously not free. Creativity being what it is, I would suspect that Scholl may respond to this in a manner that won't engender any more love than is currently being tossed his way. This is far from being over .... (Thursday Dec 17 | post #11)
The attorney for the Dr. Seuss Foundation has not yet been questioned about the legal concept of "fair use". I suggest you try googling the term. You might even learn something about the law. By the way, Mike Smith recused himself because of his FPPC complaint against Scholl. It has been a year and no one has been contacted by the FPPC. While hope springs eternal for some with sour grapes, it is more than apparent that this will go nowhere. So that leaves the question of why Smith recused himself. He does not have a financial conflict of interest. Is he saying that he couldn't be neutral in coming to a decision? He didn't seem to have any problem voting on the race track project when he did have a financial conflict of representing the best interests of his brotherhood of electrical workers. Didn't seem like he was too worried about being neutral in that decision instead of going in with his mind made up. The scary thing about Smith is he has been the best commissioner up there along with Duncan in making decisions backed by logic. I would have rather had him in his seat than leaving the decision to the five morons who don't understand "guidelines " for what they are: suggestions. Another wonderful tool for harassment of business owners who don't toe the line. By the way, what is better? Successful businesses or empty shops in the dieing downtown? How many years has the DDBA and the chamber been working on the revitalization of this dead from the neck up area? Another good waste of public funds... (Thursday Dec 17 | post #9)
Students, adults from around Solano County discuss underage dri...
No, this was not a discussion of underage drinking. It was another attempt to stop underage drinking as the socially unaccepted norm in puritanical America. Why don't we just accept Sharia law and more back to the Dark Ages? Was there any talk of socially responsible drinking? No, there was talk of how to stop drinking in the homes of people with a different viewpoint. There never seems to be any discussion of the appropriate amount of any substance to be consumed. We continue to hear the bleating of Nancy Reagan telling us to "just say No". For how many years have we attempted to keep cigarettes, booze, and drugs away from our youth? Has it worked? On the drug issue, has it even worked with adults? The answer is an emphatic NO! If you keep doing what you have always been doing, you are going to keep getting what you have always been getting. Of course, those involved financially in the endeavor to change behavior have no problem wasting time and resources on this type of thing. Maybe if you weren't boring the kids to death in school, they wouldn't be drinking on campus. Your entire system is a failure and this is getting clearer every day ... (Thursday Dec 17 | post #2)
Bernardini: Get off the fame plane
You just aren't too sharp, Fred. After reading Bernardini's article, isn't this quote exactly Bernardini's point? As you don't seem capable of intelligently answering that, yes it is. I do disagree with Dan on this as I frankly don't care what the Capt'n does with his fame. I don't idolize anyone or anything. "We are all here to do, what we are all here to do." I can live with that ... (Friday Dec 11 | post #6)
It would seem to me, due to the animosity and responses to each of Mr. Bernardini's columns, that he has reached his readers as few writers can or have. I suggest to you that he may not be "the hero" you define with the Sullenberger example, few are, but that he is a superior writer given this constant vitriolic protestation. After seeing these sort of tantrums from those of you whose little worlds seem to be rendered asunder from his assaults on your sensibilities, I have read what he has wrote to find to my dismay that most of it appears rather tame. I would further suggest to you that it is your interpretation and not substance that leads to your ire. I happened to see Mr. Bernardini accompanied by Ms. Murphy at the Dixon Veteran's Hall dedication today. I congratulated him on his expertise as an editorialist. It would be a much better use of your time if you just accepted that not all viewpoints will agree with your own and move on... (Friday Dec 11 | post #12)

Spering is typical of a governmental bureaucrat out of touch with his constituency. He cares nothing for the citizens who have to pay these increased rates. Wasn't he the mayor of Suisun who was accused of using city credit cards for his personal trips to Vegas back in 2000? Nothing is too much for those in power, right Jim? As the commentators have already said, you have enough money already to manage. The mismanagement of those funds does not qualify you for additional funds. The taxpayer has just about had enough. There is a revolution coming. It has already begun .... (Thursday Dec 10 | post #6)
Solano County homeowners to see dip in property taxes
Try cutting salaries and benefits. You sucked off the cream on the top of the growing revenue stream instead of putting the money into reserves. Now you are whining that the money isn't there any more. Sounds like typical poor planning to me. It will be interesting to see what happens when the whole system begins to collapse on itself. If you believe Obamination, the recession is over. You have nothing to worry about. Ever see a recovery with no job creation? It is going to get worse. A lot worse ... (Sunday Dec 6 | post #10)

Try using the same scenario and substituting the ecoterrorists in place of the greedy capitalistic power generator. It's already been done, Fred. How can you ignore the data that confirms we are in a global cooling period? How can you ignore the fact that the consultants in England manipulated the data to achieve their end? Then we have this buffoon of a governor continuing down the primrose path of liberal idiocy and mental dysfunction like he is an automaton. Try thinking Ahnuld. It isn't too difficult ...
