Who can forget the 3 lbs. of sausage? Well, it looks likes there's a corner of the Tree Fort that will just have to stay permanently reserved for our dear friend. She was one of a kind and nobody can take her place.  (Jun 21, 2011 | post #6816)

Nikki... if you can see this up where you are, we miss you. There's an empty space in the tree fort that will always be reserved foryou.  (Jun 21, 2011 | post #1895)

Niki and I became friends because, while we disagreed on the 2008 election, we respected each other's right to their opinion and the passion and conviction with with those feelings were held. I will miss her spirit, her soul, her kid words when they were needed, and the general joy she gave to her pursuits. I pray for her family and for their loss. Theirs is greater than mine, and I am still in shock. I can only imagine how they feel. She is with the Lord now, and safe and peaceful in his arms.  (Jun 21, 2011 | post #6814)

I remember in Newport News

There were lots of great palces along the Parkway to hang out and enjoy life. It seems like forever since they closed the picnic area at Ringfield, which was the semi-official location of Senior Skip Day for YHS '76. ANd one of the best ways to cool off on an unbearably hot summer day was to bike (or drive) to Washington's HQ on the Yorktown Battlefield and stick your feet in the spring-fed stream that ALWAYS had cool water!  (Jun 11, 2009 | post #2245)

FOXNEWS will not air OBAMA's Speech tonight

Who are you people? A bunch of miserable old men who need something to gripe about to take your mind off of the impending hip-replacement surgery? All you do is gripe and carp about everything. Put your teeth back in - it's not funny any more to watch you scare the grandchildren by gum-smiling at them. If you're not careful, they'll shake the can of beer they get for you from the fridge, since they know you always look at the top when you open it.  (May 12, 2009 | post #35)

I think most Democrats have put them in the rear-view mirror. Like most of these things, there are few smart-alecks who really are only interested in stirring up a bunch of dirt, and they aren't really representative of what either party thinks or is concerned with. Whether or not they pose as somehow being representative of the thought of anyone else, they really aren't, and should be ignored as such. Of course, in most cases regarding the Palins, I think that there are people who supported Mrs. Palin last fall who get their backs up whenever anything less than stellar is mentioned about them, even as an aside of no consequence, and start crying "foul!". My guess is that whatever there is that's being discussed about the fair Governor of Alaska and her family, the ones doing the talking are either smart-alecks or thin-skinned supporters who are looking to be wronged, and certainly not any mainstream thought or conversation.  (May 12, 2009 | post #127)

Well, at least there haven't been any major changes in Topix while I've been off doing other things, like... working. The only time that any really intelligent discussion took place in this forum was back during the election, and even then it was only from a handful of people. The rest of you are still regurgitating slogans from the radio and mouthing some mantra that you probably don't even understand. At least I don't have to worry that spending time away from here will cause me to miss anything important being said.  (May 12, 2009 | post #30)

Dooooooooooooooooo what??? The economic problems were manifesting themselves right in front of your nose for years before Obama even started running for President. If you missed those, I hope you enjoyed your ignorant moments of bliss. Go back and read the regularly published economic statistics and forecasts put out by the government all the way back even before 9/11 shook up our national psyche. Why do you think Bush was sending "stimulus checks" and "tax rebates" for years??? Because he felt like it? Or was Obama causing the crisis then? Sheesh! Yank your head out of your thoroughly impacted orifice.  (May 12, 2009 | post #16)

Cell phones get top marks in class

The goal of the SOLs was to be an evolving standard where the bar keeps getting raised continually, so that what was "up to standard" in one year might not be even close to acceptable a few years later. Otherwise, you'd have total chaos!!!  (May 12, 2009 | post #67)

No person or group of people, especially one as diverse as a national political party (regardless of which on it is) ever fits neatly into any stereotype.  (May 12, 2009 | post #124)
