Best Neighborhoods in Akron

Wadsworth is a great place to live. Our utilities (including cable TV) are city-owned, so the rates are low. Crime is low. When was the last time you heard of a hoodie-crime in Wadsworth? The schools are rated "Excellent ", despite having one of the lowest per-capita pupil expenditures in the state. Property taxes are resonable compared to other communities. The housing value is tremendous. Try finding a new 2,600 square foot 4 bedroom house for $230K anywhere in Hudson, Medina, or most other communities.  (Sep 13, 2008 | post #84)

That is because the ABJ does not moderate this particular forum. They only moderate Topix' "Akron Beacon Journal" forum.  (Sep 10, 2008 | post #169)

If you registered "Voice of Reality" with Topix, we would know for sure. The posts show up completely different from registered users. In reality, who cares? This forum has gone to dogshit anyway.  (Sep 10, 2008 | post #161)

It is a credibility issue. How do we really know it is you doing the posting when anyone can post a message under an unregistered name like "City Worker"?  (Sep 10, 2008 | post #156)

The entire ABJ is slowly devolving into nothing more than fishwrap, which is sad considering its once proud past. As soon as Knight-Ridder sold the paper, the writing was on the wall. Most every one of their decent reporters have make the trek up 77 and are writing for the PD. The lone exception is David Giffels, and I am sure he is looking for the escape hatch as we speak. I don't think the ABJ will ever shutter its doors completely, but I think it will largely just become irrelevant, much like its commenting section has already become.  (Sep 9, 2008 | post #137)

I guess I don't have your patience. The ship has hit the iceberg and is taking on water. I know what the end result is going to be, so I am not going to sit around and wait for it to slip beneath the surface.  (Sep 9, 2008 | post #115)

Then why bother? I posted one comment over there regarding the change. It was my first and last post over there. Seriously, the way I look at it, the best way to doom their new system is to not participate.  (Sep 9, 2008 | post #112)

Well, if you have bothered to read many of my posts, you would know that I smack down the Dems as often as I smack down the GOP. I am a loyalist to neither party. I am a Libertarian and vote for candidates based on the issues, regardless of their party affiliation.  (Sep 8, 2008 | post #96)

Funny, but I don't even live in Summit County. I do work there, but reside elsewhere. Kind of makes it hard for me to be a party loyalist, now doesn't it? Run along now and make a nice new tin-foil hat for yourself, Skippy.  (Sep 8, 2008 | post #85)

Saying you have been posting comments for 3-4 years is an exaggeration. Prior to switching to Topix in 2007, Ohio.com had their own comments section similar to the one they are using now. However, they had that comment section for less than a year before going to Topix, so at most we are talking about 2 years or so. That is why I said you exaggerated.  (Sep 7, 2008 | post #75)

I am calling BS. You have your tin-foil hat on a bit too tight. Very few people have static IP addresses. Almost every ISP uses dynamic IP addresses instead. So the idea of Topix banning your IP address is just plain silly.  (Sep 7, 2008 | post #25)

I understand why they did it. First, it gives them much more control. Topix was turning into a constant flame-war. Second, it keeps traffic on their site. Topix sells ad space on the site to advertisers based on page-hits. Ohio.com was driving traffic to Topix, so the ABJ probably either asked Topix to share some of the revenue with them, or they just thought they could do it themselves and make some money. The problem is that their new comment section is horrible. It is not user-friendly and doesn't allow for a real conversation. On the other hand, making users register before they post is not something I have a problem with. I think the ABJ will see soon enough that their change is going to be a failure. Don't forget that they used to have something similar a couple years back and went to Topix instead.  (Sep 7, 2008 | post #68)
