What does it really take to get a job here in Bristol, VA

Since I quit US Solutions over their schedule change, (they went to 24-7 11:30 PM - 8:00 AM shift for about two years) I have put in four applications, the most recent one last week. (If you're a recent hire at US Solutions you're about to find out why they have such an incredibly high turn over rate. After you finish all your training for FedEx - billing, ground, and customer service you are held accountable for every single word you say and how fast you say them. Most quit from the stress of the job or get fired from one little mispoken word.)  (Sep 17, 2013 | post #18)

Where? I put in average 6-9 applications a day, but can't get a call back from 98%. When I call them back, the job is filled or they chose not to fill the position. I can't find anyone that is legitimately hiring.  (Sep 17, 2013 | post #16)

Are you jealous because a black man or woman, (I refuse to use the term african-american since a vast majority have nver set foot on the african continent) has more melatonin than a white man or woman? Like it or not that's the only difference between the two.  (Sep 15, 2013 | post #113)

as per hiring manager's remarks, I realize that your biggest business day now is Sunday, it just goes to show the total lack of respect that the country as devolved into. However if someone points out on their application that they do not work on Sunday for based on religious belief and that is the reason that you do not hire them you are opening yourself up to a lawsuit, (based on the civil rights act of 1968 and the supreme court decisions based thereon,) the same as if a Muslim says they are unavailable on Friday or an Orthodox Jew says they are unavailable on Saturday. re whatever: you missed the point i was making. They posted the job the first time without the requirement. As far as the proverb of the ass, (not ox) falling in the ditch on the sabbath that is an emergency case. If your ass falls in the ditch every single sabbath, you might want to get rid of the ass. Whether we like it or not the ten commandments have not nor will not change, they are the very definition of what sin is, just because society says it's okay to break one or two here and there doesn't mean that God will agree. For everyone else: I didn't not intend this to turn into a philosophical or religious discussion, but was hoping for a few suggestions for finding a job here in this dried up, two bit, one horse town.  (Sep 14, 2013 | post #14)

Anyone know anything about this exceptional young lady? Besides the obvious that she's a talented, beautiful, and smart young woman.  (Aug 28, 2013 | post #1)

What does it really take to get a job here in Bristol, VA

Local company here in Bristol VA posted job on Monster.Com for Admin Assistant three weeks ago. After applying got an email that said I was a perfect match for their opening that they should contact me in a few days. Today the same opening is re-posted on Monster.com with one change: "Admin Assistant must be fluent in English and Spanish." I have a simple question: Why should I have to learn another country's language when they are in my country and too lazy to learn mine?  (Aug 23, 2013 | post #10)

WFHG Radio of Hate

And as much as I am opposed to govt regulations where their not required. Impersonally don't think that a radio station such as WFHG should be allowed to exist. It's almost promoting violence and discourse. I consider them a detriment to democracy. They are untruthful and hate-filled. They are promoting civil war. So if a war starts, guess who will be targeted. Without the right to dissent there is no freedom of speech. What other people do with this dissent is up to them.  (May 19, 2013 | post #31)

WCYB Morning News

Unfortunately it would seem that the lovely Ms. Yingling is only there at 6:00 and 11:00 on Weekends now and field reporting or sitting in for vacationing anchors during the weekdays. After three years I suppose she should have some seniority.  (Apr 8, 2013 | post #47)

Food City on Bonham Road

I've been trying for years to get a job there, but every time I talk to the manager he tells me that he doesn't have any open positions, while he's stocking the shelves himself! yep real fair hiring practices there KVAT.  (Apr 7, 2013 | post #8)

Why Doe All News 5 People Move Their Hands So Much When D...

They used to cover the biggest market in the country, but since the advent of digital broadcasting they lost their local number 1 rating to WJHL and no longer cover the same broadcast area because the owner was too cheap to replace his analog broadcast equipment with equally powered digital broadcast equipment. It's kind of sad, but it appears that WCYB is going the way of the old WKPT news, (of course it wouldn't exactly hurt if they quit repeating the news every thirty minutes for seven hours a day)  (Apr 7, 2013 | post #6)

WFHG Radio of Hate

The main reason that ultra-conservative Talk Radio is on the air...people listen. The other side tried their version of Talk Radio and it crashed and burned because they couldn't get anyone to turn the radio on. Like it or not broadcast radio and television boils down to a popularity contest and how that translates into business. If you can get on the radio and read cookbooks and get listeners radio stations would put you on the air.  (Apr 7, 2013 | post #25)

I hate needles, so no tattoos or piercings. Take a bath everyday. I won't starve to death. God will provide what I need to survive. He did however state time and time again: "I would have obedience rather than sacrifice."  (Mar 23, 2013 | post #9)

Tried Chik-fil-a several times, no answer. However I did finally get someone after twenty years of applications to admit over the phone that the reason I can't get hired at Wal-Mart is because I won't violate my religious beliefs and work on Sunday. I put down that I was available any time from 12:00 AM on Monday to 11:59 on Saturday, but that's not good enough they have to be able to control my entire week. I also pointed out that this is a violation of the Civil Rights Act and the Hate Crimes Act, but she stated that it is not a violation of Wal-Mart policy so there was nothing she could do about it. Isn't it amazing when store policy means more than Federal Law in this country.  (Mar 4, 2013 | post #7)
