Woodland's interim fire chief may get a new title

We agree on the the mayor assessment. I am wondering what percentage of FD expense goes to response and what percent goes to just sitting and waiting (Fixed costs)? If they are responding only to fires and not rolling ladder trucks to residential housing would the cost in fuel and such go down? I am seeing these Excursions around town and sitting in people's driveways, lights and sirens going to every call. Why does the chief ride to every call? Every fire? I could ask lots of ignorant questions, because these are money questions, performance questions that I don't think get talked about. Maybe they do.  (Feb 15, 2011 | post #47)

I would be better informed if I wasn't being called names. If you have a well paying job in this town you should feel lucky. Many if us don't. Some of you **** hats are sitting at your job dreaming up more ways to get a raise or hold the city hostage for services we hired and paid for in advance. The city leveraged money they could not afford based on no independent numbers to build out and used the extra to give everyone raises. That is unwise stewardship of the city. They deserve all the criticism that starts at the Mayor and goes through the entire leadership. Mr Sander may be the next chief, but if he were paid 20% more than the entry firefighter, would he still take it? If so, then he can be chief. Not $200k.  (Feb 14, 2011 | post #43)

Support center coming to YoloCounty

Ray. Ray... Ray.... We get it. You gave us a video and you want us to watch it. Is this what Sen. Yee was working for? He said he was trying to get funds "restored " but it appears the form has instead created a new beauracracy? Hey good job! Not.  (Feb 14, 2011 | post #6)

Thanks, DB. I agree I would rather have a professional FD that works locally. Three guys per truck as has been published is pretty slim. I know now why every alarm is a three or four alarmer. What does not make sense is the 24hour day structure of the traditional work schedule. Do they still need this? Could the well documented incident files be gleaned for some clues to make some stations Part Time? or Part Days? Leadership.. this is a tough one. Local guys who have relatives or parents in the FD seem to be the next generation of leaders here. I like that, IF the training and management skills are there. I think they are, but let them take the layoffs and reductions with the unions as well. But nepotism can be a trap, and if I found one candidate was chosen over another because of this, I would be voting out some people. I would say that about the Mayor and Council. Are they emptying their own trash and mopping their own office? What I really want to see is the $200K guys getting more work, AND a cut in pay. if they think they can do better somewhere else, let them.  (Feb 10, 2011 | post #24)

Woodland, Yolo County mobile phone use dialed in

When the departments set their own policy for cell use and purchase, without policies in place, it invites abuse. Mr Newens may have more items like this? An email should do it. "Tell me how many cell phones and mobile broadband devices you pay for." done. Maybe he needs to appoint a committee?  (Feb 9, 2011 | post #2)

Chief Sander gets to write his own contract? Is our City Manager that complicit in the conflict of interest that shows? Of course he is going to put the job in a light that gives him more money. Oh by the way, why not give him the Senior Center to run? Oh wait, that's been done.  (Feb 8, 2011 | post #2)

Woodlander charged with vehicle theft

Thieves should get a pass for taking things not theirs? Be sure to leave your house and car unlocked for them. They might "need" something. That's why they ask politely by breaking in and taking things. I am tired of people like you. In my black and white mentality it is stealing. Period. No punishment is too great. You are the kind of person who argues for the criminal why?  (Feb 3, 2011 | post #8)

Smith: It's a sign of the times when we can't trust the z...

This will not change for those of us already vetted in the old system. It will now be a two-tier Horoscope, babies born from now on will be under the new horoscope system, which will be enacted just after the Senate ratifies the New Horoscope treaty, and repeals the Law of Gravity.  (Jan 30, 2011 | post #6)

Vote could benefit theater

The property owners need to fix the buildings? Then why have they been asking for public money? I hate to say this, but if these buildings cannot be maintained, then they should be razed and the property owners should bear the cost of that. I watched that Morrison building for years, and they never seemed to do anything with it. The second floor just always empty was disappointing. Some buildings for sale in this town are attached with so many City or County "conditions " like infrastructure upgrades, that they will never sell, and end up like the downtown buildings. One building on E Main has been for sale forever, and the City people told me you would have to build a sewer line from Pioneer past McDonalds to the 113 freeway just to buy that building. huh? The hotel, four restaurants and more don't already have one? With those kinds of things, I can see why nothing moves, and they go build at Gateway, or south of town. I have a real suspicion the buildings downtown are empty for the same reasons?  (Jan 30, 2011 | post #9)

Woodland's mobile food vendors could be told to keep moving

That is what I wanted to know, thank you. So the property owners who allow them to set up trucks are operating out of THEIR zoning? If I wanted to put a restaurant where the Feed Store is, could I do it? Or in the Ace Hardware beside the eyesore recycling place is? Those are starting to be another sign of the decay of Woodland as well. I have been to some of those, and the people who work at them have to sit in those containers with no plumbing or electricity all day. Like the flower and produce people with a bucket or crate on a corner, this is getting out of hand. And someone wants to call these people "Small Business"?  (Jan 30, 2011 | post #8)

New Woodland gym hopes to build youth connections

It is an income stream for the church and their ever expanding real estate portfolio. I was in Roseville when they opened. They were ready and quick with the sales pitches to get your money, and then started calling and emailing incessantly. If you believe that is a way to embrace new people with your "message ", I hear it loud and clear. Lots of the guys in Roseville were ex-cons, neophytes in the lord, and were very confrontational bullies. I had a lot of fun with them, and not in a good way. I do not know if these disciples are from the Roseville franchise, but I would not trust kids around them based on that alone. This is strictly my experience. Maybe.  (Jan 26, 2011 | post #31)
