Anyone have memories of downtown Clementon in 50's or 60's?
Oh my goodness...such wonderful memories! We moved to Lindenwold from Philly in 1953 so my memories are really of Clementon for the most part. What was in Lindenwold then? LOL Kidding. No one has mentioned the wonderful snake dances and bonfire in town for Overbrook. They outlawed them and it really made me sad, but so much has changed. My brother and I were chatting not long ago, and he told me of all of the changes there, both in Clementon and Lindenwold. He told me not to go back because it would break my heart it's so changed. I agree with him. I want Clementon to remain in my memory as it should be. We lived on Gibbsboro road. How I remember the Saturday my best friend Carole and I went to the movie theater to see Elvis in his first movie: Love Me Tender. It was so mobbed you could hardly move. And, the screaming! We ALWAYS went for a float after the movie and sat at the counter, of course! Remember the racks of comic books and magazines? We'd pour over them forever, reading mostly, not buying! LOL Going to Clementon park for our church picnics! Wow, we always had corn on the cob and clams, raw and steamed, thanks to my Dad. My Dad & Granddad (a cop in Philly) owned a house on LBI that they built themselves. It was in Shipbottom on the bay. I loved going to the dances at the park, and dancing in socks! I may be somewhat older than some here. I could go on forever! Linda Kubinski nee Slothour now in the Arkansas Ozarks (Hardy) (Thursday Sep 25 | post #36)
Extensive Damage Reported In Sharp & Independence Counties
Just saw your post Kelly. Hardy sustained little, if any damage. That is not true 6 miles down the highway in Highland. If you go to www.webshots.com and search for Teddybrgr, it will bring up my photo albums, one of which shows the devastation in that little town. It's now the floods here to beware of. Hardy has taken quite a hit. (Mar 20, 2008 | post #4)
It really bothers me that you have had no replies. Even if someone doesn't know of land leases in the area, they could at least say hello. I recommend you call a lovely, knowledgeable lady here in Hardy, AR, a realtor who often has hunting land, and knows everyone. Her name is Linda Green at Video Realty in Hardy. Tell her Linda K., up on the mountain, told you to call her. PS My dear husband is retired law enforcement. Good hunting.... (Mar 20, 2008 | post #5)
Writer Arthur C. Clarke dies at 90
Sir Arthur...my memories.... In grade school we had a monthly newsletter offering books to school children at very reduced rates. Our teachers would have everyone take one home and have our parents agree to our selections and sign the form; sending it back with the money. My very first choice was Arthur C. Clarke's "Childhoods End." How I remember my imagination soaring reading this book! I've had to replace my copy twice over the years, and I'm about to do it again. Sir Arthur: Thank you for the great many hours of pleasure and thought you gave to me and millions of others. Your new adventure is only just beginning. (Mar 20, 2008 | post #132)
Thickest, oldest Arctic ice is melting
I believe global warming is real. HOWEVER, I also believe, along with George Carlin, that this lovely blue marble floating in space, will one day shake us off like a bunch of fleas. Earth will come back as though we were never here. In the meantime, we enjoy all of the benefits we have wrought. Have fun, all. (Mar 20, 2008 | post #151)
