Who cares? They can be whatever they want.....black, white, mixed, biracial, triracial, etc. No one's forcing them to choose. Life goes on. (Jul 22, 2009 | post #9)
Everone: must watch Black In America 2 Tues and Wed
OK.... I watched it, and I have to say, I think it was good at least so far. I felt the exposure the children from Bushwick got, in terms of going to SA really made them open up and appreciate the things they have in life, even though by American standards may not be that much. More children should be exposed to different things in terms of profession and life in general. It can make a huge impression, and I've always advocated this. The principal from CT was so on point; I was so proud of this man, in spite of me not knowing him. If more teachers/principle s/schools had the dedication he had, a lot could be accomplished in any school. I did have my moment though--- with the upper class, black woman's event she throws every year for other privileged black children. In of itself, it's not bad, but I do feel that these children, just by virtue of being privileged already have connections, and that there are many underprivileged but dedicated, hard working kids who are working towards their dreams and goals that could make better use of those connections because they usually don't have them. I agree. Disunity and separatism has never been to anyone's true advantage. (Jul 22, 2009 | post #65)
Survey: Would you ever move to Africa?
It's rather obviously, you don't want to contribute anything meaningful in this conversation. I was VERY clear in my responses, that none of the answers were easily generalizable to the African experience as a whole, but it seems like you are hell bent on taking specific aspects of a fact and applying them in general. If this is how you reason in life, then you won't get much out of it. Once again, you are rambling and taking things out of context, making assumptions with NO basis etc, which isn't really a surprise to me considering the last exchange I had with you. I mean, here we are supposed to be talking about Africa yet you continue to talk about Europe or Asia in a desperate attempt to distract the issue at hand. You give me one example of unity--although it IS progress-- like that makes up for the majority of disunity. You can say what you may---that I don't know anything about Africa, I have no idea etc--but in reality I have nothing to prove, it's simply evident Africa's disunity is one of her biggest problems---even your fellow Africans know this! ....yet you wish to deny it simply because it's coming from me, lol, but I'm not concerned about your hurt pride. I'm not sorry, but I must say I have much more of a progressive mind-set than to allow myself to be trapped in the shallow pools of those who refuse to swim. (Jul 22, 2009 | post #231)
Most of these people talk about HOA and EA as just being Somalia, Eritrea, and Ethiopia, not because they think those are the only countries in East Africa, but because they associate certain physical characteristics of those three groups… as different from other groups within the same or surrounding are...like the other people of East Africa are invisible. ..and as much as this may step on someone’s toes, most of that nonsense came from the Som/Eri/and Ethio people on Topix who are trying to exalt themselves as something spectacularly different from the rest of Africa as well as these white trolls, not necessarily AAs. It could be a right brain thing, lol, idk--I stay up lately, generally, but I need to stop doing that. I have too much to do later today, so I'm about to be out for the count. (Jul 21, 2009 | post #237)
