Evangeline Law Enforcement Salary

The sheriff told me after his first election that he wanted to improve transportation, technology, equipment and payroll for his deputies. I see improvement in all these areas. Is it to the stature of some of the other departments in the state. No but there is improvement. The delay is Politics. We want more money for the officers in this parish we need to apply pressure to the political machine. Not the sheriff, not the chief bit to those controlling the purse strings. I believe that if the mayor of VP told the Chief that he could hire new people at 14 an hour starting tomorrow he would and he would try to find the best possible for that position and the same stands true with the sheriff. Numbers supporting one to speak to the machine on their behalf to work toward a common goal for the better of all LEO's in the parish. Thats all. ELEA also wants to be their for officers injured in the line of duty with monetary assistance when those bills pile up. Their alwys their for us, why not return the favor. Be their for their family if the worst occurs. Our LEO's shouldn't be worried about losing homes or vehicles because of an injury. We want to have sponsored fund raising events to not only assist in helping injured officers but also bring public awareness and public support to our agencies. I believe that top quality law enforcement opens the door for new business. New business brings additional tax revenue and if invested properly in our education system could increase new business again in the parish. It starts here and we need your help.  (Jan 31, 2013 | post #42)

I dont believe in over qualified when it comes to helping others. Either you want to and you do or you dont. Its not hard to talk to friends, family and the guy or gal at the corner store about the needs of our guardians. Word by mouth gets around. Evangeline Law Enforcement Association is real and wants to be involved and do the right thing. We already helped 1 officer injured with a monetary donation. Membership is easy, cheap and for the right reason. We need 1000 members.  (Jan 30, 2013 | post #39)

With enough public support the guy on the street could be making more. Should be around 14 an hour before sup pay. Need 1000 members. Cops from all departments in the parish plus citizens.  (Jan 30, 2013 | post #36)

We use that support to show numbers in support of ideas and higher wages. I once heard the Sheriff say he wanted to form a team compiled with officers from all departments. This was a good idea. I also heard that the reason the pay scale is where it is comes from no public support. We can also work to change this thru public interaction.  (Jan 29, 2013 | post #27)

Mayor of Ville Platte using public car and misuse of publ...

I dont know about her use of the city vehicle or her method of rule but I do ride thru VP quite often and I see progress. Several new commercial sites under construction, equals employment increases and new tax revenues. I say good job madame mayor.  (Jan 29, 2013 | post #14)

Lol, now be nice the Indian is a nice guy. I agree. I also want other agencies to look upon the departments in our parish as some of the best. Perhaps political change is what it will take, but straight forward attempts to wag the dog prior to that change will prove to the people that change is necessary, what type of change is considered and how they would benefit. New blood brings new ideas I agree. But thats a few years away and I haven't heard of anyone with plans to run. Right now we need the support of the people, both physical and monetary. That support will create billboards and pressure on the parish/city/town council in support of our officers.  (Jan 28, 2013 | post #23)

Do you have any suggestions? I believe the public is not informed and would support the needs of the officer if properly informed. Thats the purpose of obtaining memberships. To inform the public and ask them for help. Billboards, radio, television ect. Just like their are good cops that want to do the right thing, there are good citizens. Alot of them.  (Jan 28, 2013 | post #20)

Nothing said here is going to help increase salaries at any department in this parish. I get it, you dont like some of the officers at an agency. You feel alot of them shouldn't be officers. You may be right you may be wrong. You say your in law enforcement an you work for an SO. Than you must know some guys doing the job right. If not in VP maybe at the SO or Basil. Would you agree that if the Parish paid their officers more they would have a better chance of getting a higher quality officer. I do want your opinion, its the mud slinging I can do without. We all know their is problems but can we resolve them is the question.  (Jan 27, 2013 | post #17)

Blasphemous I never said that this Parish didnt have problems. In no way will I try to defend these allegations you have made because I dont know the facts. Your problem is you see that the vehicle has damage on it, you want fresh paint but your not willing to spend money on the bodywork. You want better it cost. It cost money, time and maybe even leadership change. But none of those will come with out pressure applied. Now you can sit on your ass behind your anonymous name and complain or you can come out the shadows and work toward making a difference.  (Jan 27, 2013 | post #13)

Radio, TV, billboards all good. Word of mouth cant be beat. Tell a friend have them tell two. Come to this discussion. People outside of law enforcement willing to donate some change to see some change. Ive got 500 $$$ in an acct right now for this cause. Membership is 150 per year. We need a 1000 members. Citizens that care.  (Jan 27, 2013 | post #10)
