Isles' Westfall one of 3 honored by Nassau sports

Things are looking up so far for the Garth Snow trades this season. San Jose tanked, Pittsburgh wins a playoff series Suddenly we have 2 first rounders and 5 picks in the first 3 rounds.  (Apr 28, 2009 | post #16)

Isles' Westfall one of 3 honored by Nassau sports

Picks 15-30 are in order of playoff finish picks 15-22 are for the teams who lost in the first round. Since the sharks had the best record during the season, they automatically get #22.  (Apr 28, 2009 | post #15)

Scouting service: Hedman No. 1, Tavares No. 3

I think the Tavares/Hedman debate is a lot like the Reggie Bush/Mario Williams debate a few years back in the NHL draft. Tavares, like Bush is looked upon as this electric offensive talent, but there are a few weaknesses that may keep him from being as effective at the pro level as he was at the junior level. Hedman, like Williams, has the overwhelming size and athletic ability to be a defensive rock for the long-run. It really depends on what the Islanders want. If what they say about Tavares' defensive contributions is true, Garth probably won't pick him because that is the overall theme he has stuck to so far as GM. He wants two way players. The Islanders are getting a franchise face with whoever they pick...Trust the team to make the right decision  (Apr 22, 2009 | post #106)

Tavares could be the Islanders lighthouse

We picked Robert Nilsson over Zach Parise. You may remember robert Nilsson from his cameo as trait bait in the Ryan " **** " Smyth trade  (Apr 17, 2009 | post #108)

Isles suffer another loss and lost players

If the Isles finish last, its impossible for them to pick third...the lowest they can go is #2 So we're pretty much guaranteed Tavares or Hedman in that situation Looks like we may get it too...5 points "ahead" of Colorado with 5 games left to play and Streit and Okposo out of the lineup. I had no idea how boring the team is to watch without those two players in the lineup but watching that game last night was painful.  (Apr 3, 2009 | post #23)

Wang: OK Lighthouse or else

I think they go by tickets sold, which for all intents and purposes is fine.  (Mar 26, 2009 | post #127)

Wang: OK Lighthouse or else

150 million that he has lost plus the millions more he's sinking into the development is not worth that land. The only reason the land HAS any value is because the coliseum currently sits on it between a major road and 2 highways. And not to split hairs, but drive on any major road on Long Island during rush hour and see how crowded it is. The majority of Islanders traffic is after evening rush hour anyway.  (Mar 26, 2009 | post #126)

Streit's play merits Norris Trophy consideration

Except that Hunter is not a left wing. I just threw Tamby on there because he's a left wing and he's developing his skills around the net. With KO and Tavares on a line with him, he'll get a lot more shots and be able to get a lot more rebounds. You could put Comeau, Bergenheim or Hilbert there too but Hilbert is a 4th line wing, and Comeau and Bergenheim is really a toss-up between 2nd and 3rd lines. KO, Hunter and Park are the right wings...Tavares, Bailey, Neilsen are the centers  (Mar 23, 2009 | post #68)

Rookie Hillen makes most of his chance with Isles

Stamkos played on the 3rd line until just recently. Since he's started to get more ice time, his production has greatly increased. Not to mention, he's basically third in the offensive pecking order behind Lecavalier and St Louis. Tavares will probably be a first or second line center immediately, will get way more opportunities and has a more NHL-ready body than Stamkos did last year. Not to mention Tavares is a better scorer and playmaker. Keep in mind, If Tavares would have been the first overall pick in last year's draft had he been old enough.  (Mar 23, 2009 | post #4)

Streit's play merits Norris Trophy consideration

I think KO will be our first line right wing for years. Okposo looks like he can be a 30 goal scorer in the league. 16 goals in 57 games so far this year as a 20 year old rookie. Take into account some off-season training and a full season of the same system... What I really like about KO from watching him is that he creates his own opportunities. That's the kind of play that consistent scorers exhibit. 30 goal scorers are first liners on 75% of NHL teams. Hopefully, next year we will have a line of Tambellini - Tavares - Okposo  (Mar 18, 2009 | post #56)

No argument on whether Martinek is an asset to the team now...I'm just saying, if the Isles had to get rid of one d-man to make room for the acquisition of Komisarek...I think Martinek would be your 7th d-man  (Mar 17, 2009 | post #36)
