I think most people already do that, but if they choose not to they may have valid reasons. The elderly does not like the cold and especially not a cold shower. The poor may not be able to afford a programmable T-stat. Local food may be the best value or it could be quite expensive to buy local grown tomatoes in the middle of winter in MN. Many also may be against CFL's for the fact they contain mercury, but that should be an individual choice and not a mandate. Freedom is about choice and not mandates. I encourage you to live the life you prefer and I would like to do the same.  (Wednesday Nov 25 | post #675)

Millions of american have gone from being very poor to very wealthy by the freedom and liberty known as capitalism. On the other hand if the poor rely on government they will certainly be stuck in the same standard of living as they have now. Carter did two things He established price controls on oil and he imposed restrictions on energy. His goal was greater usage of windmills and solar.
