Rangers talk back

Just got back from Jupiter, and found out they really fired Mangini II, I mean Renney? And they hired Tortorella? No way. WAY!! YAY!! Now let's hope Sabathia isn't on the roids and things may really be looking up!!  (Feb 23, 2009 | post #3397)

Yankees talk back

Is CC clean? Let's hope so. If not, I can see the Yankees being given the "death penalty" and forbidden from playing in the postseason until 2016 or 20.  (Feb 20, 2009 | post #44880)

What's the difference between the Rangers and Three Mile Island? After Three Mile Island, they cleaned up the meltdown.  (Feb 16, 2009 | post #3326)

Rangers talk back

When I heard an NHL team fired its coach yesterday, I was in full Mangini-is-gone-hu rray mode - until I heard it WASN'T Renney!! Oh well... BUT We Rangers fans are fantastic, sticking with the team through thick and thin, and we are jealous of nobody! We're not the losers - those of you who make comments like the ones above are. If you follow a team, and act like a human being, I welcome you as a fan. Some of the best discussions I've had in my life have been with fans of heated rivals - Yankee fans such as myself wouldn't enjoy baseball as much if diehard Red Sox fans didn't exist! Last but not least, I lived in Chicago for a while, and I'll bet the Sears Tower that the average Cubs fan would not take too kindly to being called a jealous loser despite their lack of a World Series title in over 100 years!!  (Feb 16, 2009 | post #3307)

Are Renney and Sather still around? Dang - so much for the rumor I was about to start!!  (Feb 9, 2009 | post #3244)

The Jets waited until the end of the year to can Mangini. Will the Rangers make the same mistake? Probably.  (Feb 6, 2009 | post #3226)

Carson Palmer? Derek Anderson? Byron Leftwich? Of course - replace an injured QB with one of these guys who know the doctors better than they know the playbooks. I agree that Favre was too aloof, but if this was going on in the locker room, how could Mangini not see it? That's just one reason he's no longer coach. Also - how could the coaching staff not see that Favre had arm trouble? All of us baseball fans who also follow football know a sore arm when we see a sore arm. That's another reason Mangini is no longer coach. Last but not least, they didn't have a good bench, but every starter on that team looked worn out by time the season ended. The bench should have been used more anyway - that's yet one more reason Mangini is gone. Now let them get a real coach - if Shanahan is truly a good fit, get him now, otherwise, move on quickly to the other prospects.  (Jan 2, 2009 | post #2787)

Now there are rumors that Jon Gruden may get canned? No wonder so many coaches prefer college jobs - Lou Holtz, Pete Carroll, Al Groh to name a few (remind me again which pro team these guys coached for). I'd still look at Mike Shanahan first, then Steve Spagnuolo. Shanahan was Denver's Joe Torre - a coach who is still very good, but was in one place way too long. He'd have a chance to make a fresh start with the Jets, and with the right DC, prove that he could still build a defense. Also, unlike Cowher, he still wants to coach. Last but not least, he knows QBs, and could make independent judgments regarding Favre (health), Clemens (ability), etc.  (Dec 31, 2008 | post #2771)

Well well well, Shanahan IS available! Curious - also curious why Dallas is holding onto Phillips and Buffalo kept Jauron. This is so strange I wouldn't be surprised if the next coach of the Jets is (trumpets blaring a-la the Imperial Margarine ad) JOE NAMATH  (Dec 30, 2008 | post #2756)

I can't believe they had the ingots to actually bounce Mangini. As for Favre, keep him if his shoulder heals - BUT - as a BACKUP (and QB coach) if he wants it. Definitely draft another QB if Ainge isn't ready - BUT - a BIG-play receiver is desperately needed (along with some new DB's). As for the next coach, not Marty Schottenheimer, please! Bill Cowher would be a great choice, but the buzz is that he's not coming back yet. Shanahan would be interesting if the Broncos release him. However, ESPN, etc. seems to feel that one of the successful coordinators from this year will probably be their choice, and I tend to agree. Congratulations to the Jets - they were probably 1-and-done even if they backed in to the playoffs, and it was worth missing the playoffs to rid themselves of the Robot!!  (Dec 29, 2008 | post #2730)

It starts with the coach - and - Shanahan may be available after tonight. May be a 2nd option if Cowher really goes to Cleveland.  (Dec 28, 2008 | post #2702)

With any luck at all, the Eric Mangini error ends within 36 hours. May this be true regardless of the outcomes of the games tomorrow - I will still be a Jets fan next year and can't take any more of this ridiculous play calling.  (Dec 27, 2008 | post #2617)
