If they are really smart(the landlords anyway), would not take the "free advice" of this city and pay for that advice instead. Mr. Perras "free advice", has cost him thousands of dollars and the "free advice", is not done yet. I know he is not the only one, that has received costly, "suggestions " from our wonderful city. Don't be sorry for printing your letter. Perhaps more will understand and others will come forward( we need some changes with some N. Adams policies). The majority of the people in this city empathize with you. Bully Buddies only begin when "all" do not obey. They have to retaliate normally, by lying against the ones not obeying. This is not meant exclusively for the mayor but others that represent "us",as well. First I must say North Adams is not Burger King, you can not always have it your way. David Hakala wrote leadership qualities which are quite good. Some of our leaders could reflect on themselves and see what qualities they have, and what they need to work on. Vision- clear, vivid picture of where to go, inspiring others to do the same. Integrity- of outward actions and inner values, an absence of tantrums and harsh outbursts are all signs of integrity. Dedication- means spending whatever time or energy is necessary to accomplish the task at hand, by setting an excellent example. Magnanimity- giving credit where credit is due. Conversely, a good leader takes personal responsibility for failures. To spread the fame and take the blame is a hallmark of effective leadership. Humility- recongize that they are no better or worse than other members of the team. A humble leader is not self-effacing but rather tries to elevate everyone. Leaders with humility also understand that their status does not make them a god. Openness- being able to listen to ideas even if they do not conform to the usual way of thinking. Creativity- the ability to think differently, to get outside of the box that constrains solutions. Fairness- dealing with others consistently and justly. When people feel that they are being treated fairly, they reward a leader with loyalty and dedication. Assertiveness- is not the same as aggressiveness.Rat her,it is the ability to clearly state what one expects so that there will be no misunderstandings. Sense of humor- is vital to relieve tension, as well as defuse hostility. (Saturday | post #17)
You are welcome,"caro l". I realize you do not have section 8 tenants. The reason I keep mentioning section 8 is because "low income housing" is discussed quite often in the paper. Citizens should be aware the city inspects these properties. The city inspects all properties prior to them being rented out. There are wonderful landlords in this town(the majority are). A pattern is starting to form that all landlords=slumlord s, this simply is not true(and it is not fair). I have said it for months,I see it as some kind of propaganda ploy. Are they trying to destroy every landlord? The city would not dare post on the front page of the newspaper "Bad tenants" because there would consequences(like maybe lawsuits). What most people don't understand, the laws now in this state(and most others) protect the tenant more then landlord. Section 8 is very strict and the "City" has to inspect each and everytime the landlord has a new tenant. Years ago there was a serious problem with bad landlords,thats why these laws were enacted. To bar someone because of this incident is pretty pathetic(perhaps they could change some minds if they showed the tape). Disabled persons need to remember not to step on the wrong,"person s" toes. What laws in this town? The City inspects these properties(I know it,You know it). "Get out of the low-income rental business"? Soon the "City" will be the ultimate and only low-income rental business. Why don't you get back to writing your propaganda "slumlord " stories. Lord knows there are no honest and good landlords here. Maybe we could steal everyones properties and show them the right way to run things. This woman said nothing about low-income apartments.
