Voters seem clueless on deficit

. . . passengers on a sinking boat . . . The movie, "Titanic " made an allegory to the scenario we have at our doorstep. . . . Californians are every bit as dysfunctional as their representatives in Sacramento . . . why I hate the propositions. We have to do their job but without the staff to gather the information needed to make an informed decision. . . . cutting anything from K-12 schools, which accounts for 42 percent of the general fund . . . and remember half of that is for bussing; which could have been used for neighborhood schools, hiring good teachers, educational materials, psychologists, etc. . . . the highest corporation tax in the West . . . what, 15% and then when a corporation didn't get a tax break. let's have everyone pay taxes even the poor. Even if it is only $10.00 for the poor.  (Nov 29, 2010 | post #11)

Cooley concedes AG race to Harris

You are right about when no one notices. and, actually we are mulattos, mixed race, mixed countries, etc. Back east, people would ask what my ancestry was. Or, they tried to guess. So, I got everything from being Black, Chinese, Jewish, Northern European (my ancestry). And you are right again; it doesn't happen as much out here in California. So, I am still surprised that when a media outlet will add the "race" of a person.  (Nov 28, 2010 | post #35)

Cooley concedes AG race to Harris

Gee, I didn't know she was Black African-American. Is she mixed with other races? when is this distinction going to become irrelevant? I'll answer my last question: When everyone has become a mixed race. In other words, American.  (Nov 24, 2010 | post #1)

Maui junket unnecessary

Lobbying is legalized bribery. Of course no legislator is going to vote for banning lobbying. The supreme court was no help either when they allowed corporations to contribute to politicians war chests. Wait until corporations decide they can have the right to vote. Or, they tell their employees which way to vote as a condition of employment.  (Nov 21, 2010 | post #1)

Wetlands restoration ordered

These wetlands, degraded as they are, are not about the bottom line at this point. They are part of the 5% of wetlands left in California. We don't know what the bottom line will be when the land is restored to a wetlands. It might be profitable, think of that!  (Nov 19, 2010 | post #2)

" . . . The only reason we continue to do this is that people are too cowed to even question the absurd taboo against profiling . . ." NO IT ISN'T. It is a slow and methodical process to limit our movement throughout the country. China does it now. When will it be required for us to have a passport to visit another state?  (Nov 19, 2010 | post #1)

Thursday's Letters to the Editor

Regarding Ronald Webster's discussion of bums: I think the young bucks were eating donuts on a ship when one of them had to cut one. He stuck out his bum and hit the red button that launched the missile that we saw splashed all over the "news". The navy was embarrassed and kept silent.  (Nov 11, 2010 | post #5)

Thomas D. Elias: The final nail in the LNG coffin

it's too dangerous. It's not worth it. Corporations won't take the responsibility to maintain upkeep of their lines, so keep it away from us. Let Mexico have the terminals.  (Oct 31, 2010 | post #1)

Monday's Letters to the Editor

RE: Sue Cline's comments So, parents are still driving badly when they are picking up their kids from elementary school? When my daughter was at Cubberley (1991-1999), I saw so much poor driving skills I wondered why a cop wasn't put on patrol there to hand out tickets. Kids learn by example, in other words, their parents bad driving habits are being passed down to their children. Cut some slack? I say tickets and a refresher course on driving for them.  (Oct 25, 2010 | post #19)
