Laid-off city drivers protest Chicago's shift to private ...

The unions don't work by themselves. They must get the State or Industry to agree to something that bankrupts themselves. Union work only by mutual agreement with the employer. The unions failed to reach a mutual agreement with the city and as a result only injured themselves.  (Aug 1, 2009 | post #45)

Laid-off city drivers protest Chicago's shift to private ...

This shows why the Shakman decree was wrong from the very beginning. Let the elected politician hire and give jobs to whoever they want. Those who are hired will work very hard and do an excellent job because they want whoever hired them to get re-elected. If they mess up their job they risk losing it in the next election. Political hiring is the most efficient way to go.  (Aug 1, 2009 | post #43)

Quinn may tinker with reform bill

We don't need this. It interferes with democracy. We can always vote in the next election for somebody else. Term limits affect both the bad AND THE GOOD politicians. Don't interfere with democracy.  (Aug 1, 2009 | post #2)

'Cash for clunkers' gets stalled

Why not finance bicycles instead? This would cost hundreds, not thousands. Give it to people to STOP driving their cars. Stop polluting, stop traffic, stop the need for more highway spending. Add a bonus, too, for bicycles made in America. Encourage bicycling and increase health! This would even reduce the costs of health care. There's a lot of advantages to this.  (Jul 31, 2009 | post #53)

Rod Blagojevich's book: Ousted governor's work, due in Se...

He did tell us the replacement governor would want to raise taxes. He was right, wasn't he? Why are we all so quick to condemn?  (Jul 30, 2009 | post #13)

No title

Maybe that's why Chicago's hot dogs and roast beef sandwiches are so popular.  (Jul 25, 2009 | post #3)

Readers let off steam on parking perks for hybrids

Taking the bike is the best way! Closest parking, no gas, no pollution. Next, they should offer a discount to bike shoppers - and really **** off the pollution drivers.  (Jul 20, 2009 | post #10)

Public transit's private club

Can you take bicycles on this car? Can you do it all hours, and not be limited in the hours?  (Jul 20, 2009 | post #55)

Ultra-fast trains ordered

There used to be rail service between Milwaukee and Madison. It was abandoned, it's now the Glacial-Drumlin trail. http://www.glacial drumlin.com/Home.h tml If this is such an attractive venture why isn't it being done privately, for profit?  (Jul 18, 2009 | post #59)

Red-light cameras: RedSpeed denies River Forest's propose...

Sure it is. Let's completely eliminate the stupid law permitting a right turn on red. This was passed at the recommendation of the car clubs and has resulted in many accidents and law violations, including turns where there are signs forbidding them! Enough is enough. Eliminate this bad, and unsafe, law.  (Jul 16, 2009 | post #56)

Red-light cameras in Schaumburg screech to a halt

You don't need a sign to tell you to STOP at the red light. You need to go back for driver training class.  (Jul 15, 2009 | post #133)

The length of the yellow is determined by the posted speed limit. If it doesn't seem long enough to you, you're driving too fast. Obey the speed limitLeft-turn arrows penalize the pedestrians. During the left-turn arrow time the pedestrians are blocked in all directions. Quit penalizing the non-polluting pedestrians in favor of the car driversAnd also activate the "Walk Now" light. This gives the pedestrians a head start and prevents the over-active drivers from turning and threatening the pedestriansThe yellow light already serves this function! So you need a remedial drivers training class?  (Jul 15, 2009 | post #126)

Very bad move. Left-turn-green-ar rows should be banned. They only make time unavailable for pedestrians. When the left-turn arrow is active, the "Don't Walk" light must be lit in all four directions at once. Ban the left-turn errow.  (Jul 15, 2009 | post #88)

Red-light cameras raking in cash

But that's breaking the law! Why shouldn't it be used for that? Make a full stop on red - and there is no problem.  (Jul 12, 2009 | post #359)

That's against the law - stopping ahead of the white line. It obstructs pedestrians. Why are you using breaking the law as a reason to object to a fine? Drive safely - and correctly - and there is no problem.  (Jul 12, 2009 | post #357)
