Hugoton After School program cut
Is anybody else really disappointed in the fact that we will not have the after school program SPLASH any more? I know I am and so are my children and many other people that I know. This was a great way for parents who worked to keep track of their kids and keep their kids out of trouble. Not to mention the fact that the kids got help on their homework and usually had it completed and ready to go for the next day while they were there. I know I was and most people I know who actually had the need for this program were even willing to pay again as we did last semester of last year. I just hope this doesn't lead to unsupervised kids getting in trouble and any acedemic suffering. (Aug 17, 2009 | post #1)
Hugoton kids needing things to do
I know when I was growing up here we had the Showplace and the Skating rink. I spent my weekend nights at one or the other or maybe both in the same weekend. I wish as a Mother now that my kids could have the option of something similiar. I am grateful for the new Game Room (which you never know when and if it'll be open) and the new gym, but I wish there were other options. Not only for the kids for us as the parents. We can not always afford to go to Liberal, Guymon, or where ever to take the kids to do something fun and it'd be nice if we had something here in town. I think with times as hard as they are now if we had this locally people would for sure use these facilities. The previous post talked about whether or not kids would want to partake in these things well I garuntee you that they would. Not everybody lets there kids drag main every night or just run around like crazy kids. I know when my kids get older I'd like them to be able to go to the movie, skate, or what ever it may be. To know that they are in a controlled environment and safe. I know that this will probably never happen, but I defenitly think it needs to be talked about more. If we want to keep our kids out of trouble this could be a start. Hey at least we could say we tried! (Aug 6, 2009 | post #4)
I guess I'd say...If you don't like the food, like the service, then just don't go there. When people quit coming and they quit making money they'll either shape up or ship out! (Aug 6, 2009 | post #6)
Hugoton Community Remembers Slain Woman
I DO understand and that is why it is so sad and makes this all so hard to comprehend. (Aug 5, 2009 | post #4)
Hugoton Community Remembers Slain Woman
I did not know Lorie well, but I grew up down the street from the family. Jennifer was in my class and Crystal the grade behind me. I remember playing at their house and with all the siblings. I remember Mikey as a cute little kid who like most little brothers was a pain in the butt. I know over the last 10 years or so things changed for him. Life's circumstances led him to making bad decisions which led him down the wrong path. I still spoke to him when I saw him, disappointed and saddened by what he had become. I know Lorie loved all of her children and did the best she possibly could. Life dealt her a tough hand, but she kept going never giving up. The whole family has been through so much their whole lives and now this. I will pray for Lorie and for the family. I know Mikey had to have loved his Mother. I just don't understand. Nobody does. He will have to live with what he has done for the rest of his life and if that isn't punishment enough, I don't know what is. (Aug 5, 2009 | post #1)
