I would also like to say that you obviosly have not read that survey completely or are not able to understand it. I suggest you read it again and see the problem with the 1.5 to 2.56 million statistic, and see if you can figure out why the report also makes a point of talking about children's deaths, and re-read the frightening statistics about gun safety in the home, the thing the NRA and other gun advocacy groups use to justify their existence.  (May 13, 2008 | post #68)

Why does the link you posted admit that that survey and others like it believe the numbers of people who used firearms to defend themselves is overestimated? I am also talking about gun related deaths. Not to mention you have no statistics that are less than 7 years old and 15 years old in some cases. Got any relevant data or will you keep shuffling the same b.s.?  (May 13, 2008 | post #63)

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of ignorant, classes, pieces of garbage who delight in the loss of life. Yeah, he terrorized an old lady, yeah he was a criminal. How many other "terrible " crimes go on and produce a more lenient sentence than death? Where is the line? Someone tell me where do we say this crime is not serious enough to kill. Theft? Things can be replaced. Battery? Wounds heal. What about drinikng and driving? That kills whole families. So does just drinking. What about speeding? Same thing. I give no free pass to criminals, but at the same time this mindless aceptance of violence, especially gun violence, to solve crime, is a vicious circle. Is it better to have a gun and use it only to mistake your family member for a criminal? Sure seems easier than mistaking them for a turkey, which has been twice in the past week. Or shall we find a different way, like getting watchdogs, hiring a security person, or, like this woman, maybe have more than one person around in case of trouble. Anyone who gloats about a person dying is not christian, a good person, or intelligent.  (May 10, 2008 | post #34)

Would you protest Homosexual Day of Silence?

Even though you claim to be gone, I will respond one more time. First of all you are the one who is confusing belief with fact. You say what you know goes against what I believe. What you mean to sasy is what you believe goes against what I believe. You have no more greater insight into the unknown than anyone else. As far as your trying to convert me I believe confidence is a God-killer. I know everything will be fine on a dark scary night because I am confident. When someone is seriously ill I have confidence in medicine. If someone lay dying, I hope they go soon to be at peace. Where is your God when a child is abused? Where is your God when a woman is raped repeatedly and left for dead? Where is your God when we are killing this planet and ourselves? Where is your God when the sins of the rich are lauded? My post was a reaction to your comments about how you justify your views on homosexuality. You mentioned religion and opened the door for this. By the way if you want to make this a Kentucky only place then say so in the beginning. I only responded because a poll was up about a topic I find interesting and I wanted to see what people were saying.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #54)

This is getting a little absurd. I am wondering why you chose to be heterosexual. I mean if gays choose to be gay or "drive backwards" then why did you choose to be hetero? You carry beliefs based upon one sentence fragment in a 1000 year old book, which essentially is one giant metaphor. Base your beliefs off the one point given in your favorite book that is quoted by Jesus, you know, the son of God? By denying anyone civil rights given to other people you are telling Jesus he is full of it. Do unto others has to be more and mean more if someone wants to call themselves a christian. Instead of relying on your pastor or whoever is feeding you this B.S., read the bible yourself...the gospels. Liten to the words of Jesus not the mortal men who are subject to frailty including hate. I take religion completely out of it and just see gays as people. People deserve equal rights until they show indifference to them and cause someone else strife.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #41)

Is Bush the worst president in American history???

Bush may not be the worst but he is one of the worst. Anyone with half a brain and follows the news knows he went to war on a faulty premise. You can argue that he was given false intellegence, the wrong intellegence, or had poor advisors. It doesn't matter. Iraq had zero connections to Al-Qaeda. Iraq had zero weapons of mass destruction. So why exactly did we go? Well, you don't win an election the next year on positive messages and terrific policies both foreign and domestic. You win it with fear, Mission Accomplished. Bush is also to blame for the economic woes. He and his advisors are hard-core Reaganites with respect to deregulation. That degregulation leads to the Ponzi-scheme tactics of the banking industry, the run-away oil prices, and the constant lowering of the fed's interest rate which makes the rich richer and the poor stay in the same position. They screw it up we pay for it. Bush has also courted the religious right with regard to same-sex marriage. What a great legacy to leave in that you try and instill the policies of Nazi Germany. I am not talking about mass execution but a earlier version or stripping civil rights. Does anyone remember the last time an amendment was passed based on a religious movement. Prohibition. I'll get off my soap-box with one last thought. Lincoln is thought to be one of if not the greatest president. Not because he freed the slaves, Congress did that. Lincoln was going to do whatever it took to keep the country together. If that meant not outlawing slavery, against his personal convictions, he was going to do that. He was a unifyer and did what was best for the country not for particular groups. Can anyone say Bush has done that, or has he done the opposite as this and other forums show, that the country is divided now more than ever. Those reasons are why Bush will go down as one of the worst presidents.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #28)

Toddler Injured By Falling Television

I agree with Michelle and Courtney. I am a stay at home dad with 2 boys 1 and 3, about to be 2 and 4. I always, ALWAYS know where both of them are, what dangers are nearby, and where they might be headed to next. A TV on a stand that can be knocked over by a 2 year old is a hazard which can be avoided. As so eloquently put by Jay, the "grace of god" which keeps children safe, is only as effective as the competency of the care-givers. I am not gunning for a CPS investigation or suggesting that these are bad parents. If what Jay says is true about their time being taken by a child with difficulties, my heart goes out to them, but the simplest detail left unnoticed can sometimes cause the most unfortunate circumstances.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #6)
