Lindsay Lohan's new job to be in morgue

The system is so freaking weird when it come s to celebrities. Imagine if it was "Joe Shmoe" that got arrested, what would have happened to him? Full article: http://stryderc.in fo/forums/index.ph p?showtopic=12268  (Jan 18, 2008 | post #1)

Island businesses face labor shortage, as H-2B visa system is e...

I suppose that's the way it appears to you because there are a lot of lazy people out there with their hands out for a check. There is another truth to it though that you aren't even bothering to look at. You or your employers are hiring the wrong people, period. It's hypocritical to say everything you just spouted unless you believe that of yourself too. Are you just as lazy and useless as you make Americans out to be? Actually, that may be very close to the truth when it comes to hiring. By hiring Americans, it's harder to be rid of them if they don't work out. Rather than putting any time and effort into your hiring practices and training programs, it's just plain easier to look elsewhere so fear of deportation becomes the primary motivator. Bravo, you now have the same attitude as the Cotton Field owners leading to the Cival War. You need to look towards the realisation that came after that war. Pride and the promise of a future were even bigger motivators. Land Owners traded off parts of their land in return for work to continue and it did. When you can train someone right, they'll take pride in their work. It's up to the management to make the enviroment more than just a place to get that check. It's up to you to make them realise what they contribute is important and how it contributes to the company. That brings pride. Maybe someone should explain benefits in a better way, (i.e. better sales -> higher profit margins = better bonus / company profit share). That would help bring a sense of ownership. There are many subly ways to increase productivity, but a positive attitude is key bringing it all together. You've already demonstrated you don't have any faith in anyone. I actually find that rather sad.  (Jan 15, 2008 | post #15)

Dude, What? - Kicked Out Of School For Long Hair

On top of that, it was a response taken out of context. Being in the service yourself, you must of all people in this forum, know that there is a difference between the right to "self expression" and the actual content of the article of one good student being surmmarily left out due to the fact he doesn't want to adhere to the rules that have been in place long before he ever attened the school. I bet tha twhen you joined the millitary, that the long hair you had was trimmed down to an acceptable standard. You didn't have to go along with it, but rather chose to join a branch that required it. In the case of the kid, both he and his parents wre aware of the rule, the school was lax about it for a time as long as the "students " maintained a neat appearence. The ones that screwed up ruined it for the good student, but most of this thread seems to be spent blaming the school system themselves.  (Jan 14, 2008 | post #52)

Dude, What? - Kicked Out Of School For Long Hair

quote from achool handbook: "Boys hair must not extend below the collar in the back, cover more than ˝ of the ear, or extend past the eye brows. Braided hair shall not terminate in tails longer than ˝”. Sideburns may not extend below the earlobe." quote from superintendent Kevin Stafford said, “Unfortunately, students were not consistent in their compliance and because of lack of compliance I directed them to cut their hair." quote from Lopez, "They said as long as I keep it within the dress code, I can keep it. It can't be past my collar, cover my ears or my eyebrows.” Since many of you want to ignore the article to just have an excuse to complain, I brought the info to you directly. The handbook lays it out directly what is allowed, so the kid is not getting picked on, he and his parents would have known the rules ahead of time. His own quote shows that he had already discussed the concern in the beginning which futher supports that he knew about the rule. Third point, let's see if the complainers that keep saying he gets picked on can follow this, look at the principals quote. "Students " is plurl, that indicates "more than one". He is not beinging singled out. This is an instance of some students ruining the flexablity for others by not meeting the school half-way on it's already stated policies. If the school allowed him to remain and got rid of the trouble based on the "hair stipulation", then they'd be liable for lawsuits. Placing blame on the school is stupid, they really didn't have much of a choice to include him and considering the type of student that he is, I am willing to bet they regret it. Think about it, they wouldn't have overlooked it the whole time prior if that was their main concern. Attacking Jane above is also dumb. She has a right to her opinion and at least payed attionion to the "whole" article instead of just spouting off at the mouth ignoring the facts in front of you.  (Jan 11, 2008 | post #34)

Jerzeegrl, now this is a proper responce I can take seriously. Okay, as for point 1, I haven't a clue either, but I really don't believe it's any more of an issue than when some places give a curfew. You're caught, the judge would obviously take the side of the officer, not to mention the patrol cars themselves are usually outfitted with a camcorder these days. On point 2, this has always been the way town laws have been passed. Majority vote always wins unless there is a direct conflict with constitional laws and admendments. A good thing to remember is that the admendments exist, actually. You can Recite the Constitution itself all you like, but those Admendments are what people forget about that does change some of them. Also on point 2, it's not really oppression. Think of the smoking ban. Yes, before someone already says it, there's a health issue involved. Regardless of that fact, it is going towards in interesting point when I've noticed that there are even bans from smoking in a parking lot. I don't really see the logic of going to this point, so that would put me on the minority. I might see the point if all the cars were electric right now, but the carbon monoxide emmissions from vehicles seems to be in larger mass than a couple people getting away from the general public could generate. Is this oppression? I think it falls under, "for the greater good of the community". Making a town not look bum-central may be their "greater good", it's their call, but it's not oppression. They can still look however they want in their homes.  (Jan 10, 2008 | post #28)

Please what? Get you a dictionary? If you want to express outrage over the issue, try something more literate. Your answer is almost an example of what is going wrong with the current young generation. People sound so un-educated when the feel the need to express themselves through bad syntax and slang as "their" own language. It's annoying and "shows a lack of intelligence" regardless if you are or not. Use a car for an analogy. You could see a rust-bucket that has a rocket for an engine and a new sports-car that only has a V-6. Odds are (assuming the prices are realitively close), people looking for a quick purchase will take the sports car. Why, because it looks good. The rust-bucket isn't appealing enough to be worth the money. The same could be said for this town, they want to present themselves to be worth the money to live there. If you want to dress like a bum, fine, it's your right and no one will take that away from you. Just don't expect to ever get a decent job looking that way. If you want to use poor grammer and slang all the time, you'll never get into the higher wage jobs. I say this knowing you could have a great job, but if you do, I also know for a fact you wouldn't have gotten there without understanding the difference that I've already dipicted and knew what is truely appropriate or not in society. In which case, you'd be a hypocrite to acknowlage otherwise.  (Jan 10, 2008 | post #27)

I don't see this as the "same" as a baggy pants issue. This guy, kept it pulled back and neat. He is a role model for students by portraying all the best virtues we look for, great grades, school activities, and the the such. This isn't a case of having his hair combed over his face to look like "cousin it", (Adams Family reference), and walking around stoned through school. The one thing that I'm unsure of is whether or not it's a public school. They reported "independent ", which leads me to believe it's a private school that would most likely have a dress code. If that's the case, then the argument becomes moot since it would have been an established rule before he ever attended there. Both he and his parents would have been made aware through the handbook and have made the choice for him to go anyway. If this is the case, then he can only be upset with himself and/or his parents since they knowingly made the choice to have him attend there. The fact that it wasn't enforced until now really doesn't matter, since a claim of providing some tolerence could be givin. I also note in the article the administrator stated "students ", so it appears he isn't the only one, but could be more of a casulity of circumstance due to others with long hair that refused to at least keep it neat.  (Jan 10, 2008 | post #10)

Teacher faces child porn charge

Quote:"A teacher at a County Down grammar school is charged in connection with child pornography offences." Full story: http://stryderc.in fo/forums/index.ph p?showtopic=10966 This just makes me sick. Over the years I keep hearing more and more of this. I really am beginning to wonder if school systems have ever considered that they ought to have higher standards in how to evaluate the teachers before hiring them in the first place. It's the welfare of our kids that's most important.  (Jan 10, 2008 | post #1)

Just a couple points to consider, although I'm not sure where I would stand on this issue. 1) The fines themselves will probably cover the cost of enforcement and then some. It only takes a few minutes really to write a ticket. 2) The town has a right to enforce a law in regards to the aesthetics of their town. This isn't an issue of "free speech" unless people are getting penalized for voicing thier opinions. The whole concept of passing these laws comes from a majority vote of the people that reside there. If most of them don't want to look at this type of atire, it's their right to create a law to protect their eyes from it. In some areas, there has been a ban on "gang" colors/atire as well to deter some of the activity. Oh, and in regards to the above post about our fore-fathers never doing this or being so anal, what are you talking about? Right now we're in the most relaxed state of acceptance than this country or others have ever been for attire. The radical changes didn't really start until the 60's where most people were viewed in poor taste just for wearing a tie-dyed shirt & bell-bottom jeans. Most Americans were very conservative then and it just gets more uptight the further back you go. It sounds dumb these days, but that's how it was and I'm sure anyone here that lived through it could tell you how the general public recieved them. Swimsuits aren't going to be in any danger, I haven't a clue as to why people are realating them. In times past, yes, the prudes thought seeing so much skin was the same as nudity. These days, be honest, the perverts won because there are more of us that love the femine body in all it's wonders. There's no danger of sbolished rules every coming back. This is all about bringing some respect back to the streets of a town. If they don't like it they always have the right to move or bitch about it. If they can find a majority to overturn it, then it can happen. This isn't a question of federal law, it's about people like you and me that each cast a vote in their town saying, I'm tired of this non-sense and don't want to live in a place that looks like jail opened it's gates, (I'm taking a note from the 3rd post here. ;) ). Someone may argur that the people that don't like the dumb attire can just as easily move, but the town is made up of these people, supported by the taxes they pay for living there, and if the town is to survive, has to make the standards acceptable to this majority.  (Jan 10, 2008 | post #18)

"Victim" Reports Cell Phone Stolen, But Phone Rings in His Pock...

LMAO, you'd think the first thing he'd have done is "call the number" before going to the cops. I've done the above with the sunglasses and such, but with this is just too much. At least with a phone, you can "page" it.  (Jan 9, 2008 | post #21)

The Electric Car Conspiracy ... that never was

I was just reading an article about Hybrids. http://stryderc.in fo/forums/index.ph p?showtopic=10813 While it looks like they've got a foothold into making it a produtive vehicle for us, the consumers, I've still got my doubts for the completely electric car. Thanks to your posts here and the above article, it leaves me very curious to explore just exactly what we would need to do technology-wise to make it a reality.  (Jan 9, 2008 | post #114)
