Gun Control - Pittsfield, MA

After all the hoops Ive gone through to be a law abiding firearms owner, why would I support a ban?  (Feb 17, 2012 | post #125)

Senator: State's gambling bill still could get done

Sure, Massachusetts needs another failing 'industry.' If casinos can fail anywhere, and they have, in both Atlantic City and Las Vegas, they'll fail here. http://www.pressof atlanticcity.com/b usiness/article_5a 98c862-d3f1-11de-b 6ad-001cc4c03286.h tml http://www.pressof atlanticcity.com/w eb_specials/articl e_ea6131b2-9a82-11 de-8f64-001cc4c032 86.html  (Jul 26, 2010 | post #5)

Action busy in court

Neither did I, but I don't think it's considered part of the sentence; it's part of process of being/staying out of jail after the sentence is served.  (Jul 26, 2010 | post #8)

Teen indicted on gun charge

From the syllabus of SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA et al. v. HELLER http://www.law.cor nell.edu/supct/htm l/07-290.ZS.html 3. ... Similarly, the requirement that any lawful firearm in the home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock makes it impossible for citizens to use arms for the core lawful purpose of self-defense and is hence unconstitutional ... Pp. 56–64. I'm not disappointedGiven the language from the decision, I think you may be surprised.  (Jul 26, 2010 | post #27)

Pled guilty? OK, see you in a few years. Good thing you missed the guy at whom you were shooting. I'll be interested to see how the other guy does in court.  (Jul 24, 2010 | post #2)

Massachusetts General Laws: Chapter 140: Section 131L. Weapons stored or kept by owner; inoperable by any person other than owner or lawfully authorized user; punishmentQUOTE who="Charlton Heston"]<q uoted text> Most of the Massachusetts guns laws are moot, as recent SCOTUS rulings make them unconstitutional. P.S. do you have to PAY, for your RIGHTS of free speech? [/QUOTE] Firearms storage laws stricter than this one have been stricken down by recent rulings in SCOTUS. The last sentence: 'For purposes of this section, such weapon shall not be deemed stored or kept if carried by or under the control of the owner or other lawfully authorized user.' may save this one, though. Unfortunately, Massachusetts has been following the 'nanny state' path for many years. We are required to wear seatbelts, smoking is forbidden in public spaces, texting while driving is forbidden, etc. These may be good policy, good manners, or common sense, BUT it is not the Commonwealth's business to punish breaches of policy, manners or common sense until harm to another party is done.  (Jul 24, 2010 | post #11)

DiMasi pension restored

Agreed. That's why I wrote that he wasn't dealing with DOR or the IRS--YET. Their turn will come.  (Jul 18, 2010 | post #5)

Solar subsidies fleece taxpayers

There is room for both solar thermal and photovoltaic technologies. Solar thermal technology is simpler, cheaper, more readily available, but its uses are confined to heating water or living space. Photovoltaic is comparatively expensive and provides electricity for many different uses, including running the pump for your solar water heater. The letter writer posed a false dichotomy, but was correct in saying that solar thermal gives more bang for the buck.  (Jul 18, 2010 | post #2)

DiMasi pension restored

DiMasi isn't dealing with the DOR or IRS, yet. He's up on federal criminal corruption charges. Even though he stands accused, he hasn't yet been convicted, and the 5th, 6th and 14th amendments to the U.S. Constitution still apply. We can't strip his pension until he has been convicted; all the more reason for a speedy trial.  (Jul 17, 2010 | post #2)
