This is true. The topix forum is not what determines the laws in Washington. To quote Henry Clay,a statesman from the 1800's, "An oppressed people are authorized, whenever they can, to rise and break their fetters" I blog on this forum, giving my opinions and views, with hopes that my one voice may be considered by everyone who reads. Possibly influencing decisions made by all who may hear.  (Friday Nov 20 | post #60)

Eddie Burnside

Eddie will truely be missed. I remember as a child 95% of the time I walked into Lloyds, Eddie would be there, with a bag of popcorn, opening the door. Eddie awlays asked me how I was and how my family was doing. Always asking about them by name. Every ballgame Marsh Fork played Eddie and his brothers were there. Every revival I attended they were there. Many times I heard the boys sing "Where Should I go but to the Lord", with whole heartedness. I believe Eddie has now gone there. As a community we need to remember reach out to Lonnie with prayers and with whatever we can. We are his family now.  (Thursday Nov 19 | post #3)

Well I believe that God provides. As he has provided for the men and women working at all the MTR sites. I would hope that these people are good people and that they should not be judged because they are providing for their families. I stated before, God gave us this earth to utilize. We aren't following the instructions of the Old Testament. Since you have knowledge of the Bible, then you surely know what is written. That we as humans may try to turn an oblivious eye to the inevidable but it is written that this world will end. It is not going to to be here forever. The only problem I have against the MTR is the way our residents behave. The environmentalist have my respect because they do not display ignorance with their protest. They however need to realize their wrongdoings. We all do.  (Wednesday Nov 18 | post #55)

There is coal close to the surface that cannot be mined using the conventional method. Coal will also continue to be deep mined. MTR isn't used for all coal extraction. The environmentalist are against all coal. The silo at Goals that they are protesting also acccomidates coal from the Parker Peerless underground mine. And the Marfork operation has 9 different underground mines. A long wall operation just went into Performance and another is scheduled to be installed. Longwalls need less men than bolt method. No matter how coal is mined, with tech. less men are going to be needed. At least it's continueing and the fossil fuel can be used. The environmentalist want to cease all coal production.  (Nov 15, 2009 | post #47)

BOE may seek money for new Marsh Fork Elementary

FYI.....Whitesvill e Ele. is in Boone County, not Raleigh. I also agree that the school is ran VERY poorly. I have to call the school for information as to what is going on. If I can get thru the busy phone line, half the time noone has answers. I usually get "You need to talk to Mrs.Pioch but she is out" for various reasons. PTO elections are just now starting in Nov. I would think this would have been done at the end of last year or at least in Sept. at the latest Oct. The kids in sports only played a few games, and the children are not getting the education they deserve. MFE is considered a Title 1 school, where is all the extra tax dollars going? Alot of the really great teachers, Mrs. Brown, Mrs.Landy and others have left, has to be reason behind it. The staff at MFE are wonderful people who do great work, but the leadership and management is lacked. I am sure Mrs. Pioch has alot on her plate and her position is not an easy, but if she cannot do the job then let someone who can do it. I think maybe a change is needed.  (Nov 14, 2009 | post #72)

Well since you are such a religous person, then you must study the Bible and know that this world isn't going to be here forever and that God gave us the earth to use. To you believe that this world is exactly as it was when He created it? And what happens when a seem of coal ignites underground and burns for years, like on Rock Creek/Horse Creek mountain. No trees grow there. Oh No!!.... The burning trees may release toxins!!! Help the children. Hmmm guess I better protest God, maybe he can pay for the medical bills and dust in my house.  (Nov 14, 2009 | post #39)

Well being a local, I know people. I see where the people from this area are standing at the demonstrations and it sure isn't on the environmentalist side. You can bet your bottom dollar I am there, standing right beside my neighbors, friends, and family. Where were you?  (Nov 14, 2009 | post #38)

I am very much a local, lived here all my life. IF SOOO many locals are opposed, then why wouldn't they step up and identify themselves? Most everyone who want the environmentalist to leave the area have no problem saying who they are. In the crowds of protesters I only see 4 of the same locals. Excuse me 5. Guess I missed you there.  (Nov 14, 2009 | post #34)
