NEW Maryland Locksmith License Law

This was taken from the MD Labor, Licensing and Regulations (DLLR) page for the new Maryland Locksmith License Law. At the bottom is a list of licenses locksmith's in Maryland as of June 2013. As always view the list and make changes to your notification list. http://www.dllr.st ate.md.us/license/ locksmiths/ Title 12.5 of the Business Regulation Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, also known as the "Maryland Locksmiths Act" sets forth the requirements for the licensing and regulation of businesses or commercial entities that "provide locksmith services" in Maryland. The term is defined in Section 1-101 of the Act as follows: (h) "Provide locksmith services" means to engage professionally and for compensation in: (1) repairing, rebuilding, rekeying, repinning, recombinating, adjusting, or installing mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical locking devices, safes, vaults, or safe deposit boxes; or (2) operating a mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical locking device or opening safes, vaults, or safe deposit boxes by a means other than that intended by the manufacturer of such locking devices. Locksmith businesses that must obtain a license to operate include corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships, and sole proprietors. Employees who do hands-on work as defined above do not need a license to be hired or to continue working. However, employees are required to undergo a criminal background check, the results of which may have an effect on employability. Day Light Savings Time

Well here are again. Day Light Savings Time. Don't forget to set your clocks FORWARD 1 hour tonight. It is also the time to change your smoke detector and carbon monoxide batteries. Also as a reminder check all your locks to make sure they latch and lock properly. Know where your keys are and if you are not sure where all the keys to your home are or WHO has keys to your home, contact your locksmith to rekey or change your locks. Like your batteries in the smoke detector, locks are such a small price to pay for safety and piece of mind. Cheltenham's Only Locksmith Steve's Locksmith 877-906-9562  (Mar 9, 2013 | post #1)

Locksmith Scam Alert

This is a letter from Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services dtd 22 Feb 2013 The Department of Criminal Justice Services urges citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia to be aware that unscrupulous nationwide locksmith businesses and individuals have recently been found to be operating in Virginia and other states. While legitimate locksmith businesses and individuals take great pride in their service and business practices, a persistent pattern of violations by some nationwide businesses has emerged and violations have been reported across the country. In Virginia, the Department of Criminal Justice Services, Division of Regulatory Affairs has investigated several of these businesses and individuals and taken action against those found to be in violation of the law or regulations governing locksmiths. The investigations revealed that there are several locksmith businesses and individuals using fictitious names and addresses, and making other misrepresentations . Citizens should be aware of deceptive tactics used by these companies such as quoting one price for services over the telephone but charging a higher price after providing the service. In some cases, they even insist on accompanying the customer to an ATM to withdraw cash for payment of the inflated fee. All citizens are encouraged to protect themselves from unlicensed businesses and unregistered individuals providing locksmith services. You should take your suggestions to Carey Geddes the President of the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Board of Directors at their next meeting. The Chamber of Commerce is the sponsor of the Potomac River Festival. The Chamber is ALWAYS looking for new ideas and VOLUNTEERS to help with the event. I am sure they would be more than glad to get your help. Steve  (Jan 16, 2013 | post #4)

Advertisements on TOPIX

As I open different postings on Colonial Beach Topix site I see advertisements for Locksmith. Just a reminder for anyone looking at these ads for Locksmith work, that ANY Locksmith, doing work in the State of Virginia or who advertise's in the State of Virginia must display their DCJS (Department of Justice Criminal Service) number on that ad.
