Welcome to the Saratoga Springs News. I'm hoping that it can become a major source of news, entertainment, conversation and even appropriate controversial discussion about Our Community. Regional, state, national and even international issues are very pertinent to the people of Saratoga Springs. We are the growing County in our region and the envy of all Upstate, as well as the Summer Playground of the World. That entails a lot, including responsibility. Toga Town, this is your page. We have access to the news wires of the world and are partners and/or collaborators with major regional, state and national print and broadcasting companies. Besides story or photo contributions, we also have a forum where you can post and discuss your ideas. And who knows Toga better than a Togian, right? And for our seasonal residents and visitors, please feel free to contribute as well. If there's anything that makes us so unique, it is the blending of the people that call Our Town home, and those who grace us with their seasonal residency or visits. All of us know that Saratoga Springs is ... The Spa. There is only one Queen of the Turf. She reigns in splendor and majesty. God Save The Queen. Steve
Good Morning from Montreal. Last night's Grey Cup Festival activities in Downtown Montreal included my Experiencing Edmonton (and all Western Canada as well) at the Sheraton Centre. The show with Canada's Samantha King leading the music from the stage included diverse performances by such groups as the Winnipeg Pipe Band on the floor, as well as dancing galore! But ... this is the CFL Grey Cup Festival. And outstanding performances included two young women doing gymnastics with ... hula hoops. One was able to keep 10 going ... at the same time. Of course, professional football of course means ... cheerleaders. And that meant that the cheerleading teams from the CFL took turns taking the floor. The Felions from the BC Lions absolutely ... dazzled the crowd (and sold more than a 2008 Calendar or two, while the Toronto Argos Cheerleaders sold their 2009 Calendar called Retro Daze). Mingling with the crowd, posing for pictures and signing calendars were all a part of ... The Party! A Full Festival Day today, with the Grey Cup kickoff scheduled for 6 PM from the Olympic Stadium. I'll post more and do a complete story about ... The Grey Cup 2008. (2 hrs ago | post #2)
Bonjour! I'm off the Montreal for the CFL Grey Cup between the Montreal Allouettes and the Calgary Stampeders on Sunday evening at 6. You'll get a report about the experience in and the festivities around ... Canada's Super Bowl. A bientot! Editor (Yesterday | post #1)
From Soup Ta Nuts: Clueless Pols Debate Let Them Eat Baklava Su...
SEFA stands for State Employees Federated Appeal. It is the annual campaign that allows New York State employees to give to their favorite community, national or international agencies through payroll deduction, check or cash. The campaign is a cooperative effort between the State and the public employee unions (like CSEA, PEF, UUP, NYSCOPBA, Council 82 and the Thruway Teamsters). Sister campaigns include the CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) for employees of the United States Government, and the United Way for most other employees. Remember to fill out your pledge card for 2009! (Wednesday Oct 29 | post #5)

I most certainly did enjoy my visit to Grant Cottage. It is an American treasure! (Oct 17, 2008 | post #2)
In the interest of full disclosure (or perhaps more surely, full exposure), you may very well find me at the West Side Stadium on Saturdays. On Sundays, you most surely will find me on Phila Street at Peabody's, watching the NFL (unless I'm out of Toga Town). Eat well, tip well (dual meanings here), live well ... and see Ya All there! Trackside Steve's Travers Day Picks
Here are Trackside Steve's Travers Day picks Friday on News Talk 590 WROW and Jumpin' Country Froggy 107.1. The Travers Stakes: Pyro, Macho Again, Harlem Rocker and the longshot is ... Colonel John. In the 1 Million Dollar Guaranteed Pick 4, Track likes Indyanne in the Victory Ride, no special preference in the Bernard Baruch, the 1 and 1A entry in the King's Bishop with Visionaire and if you need a third, Desert Key. Good with Your picks on ... Travers Day! (Aug 23, 2008 | post #1)
Travers day is marked with flowers
The Travers Blanket is certainly Susan's and she's done a wonderful job every year with this genuine Travers Tradition. It truly is her baby. However, the idea for it ... was mine. Susan's flower shop was a sponsor on what is now Star 101.3 when it was WSSV and I was there with Chuck Taylor (since 1992). I suggested it to Ed Madary and John Lee in the NYRA Press Office under Glen Mathes and wanted to do it for the '93 Travers. We were told to wait one year so the first blanket was on Holy Bull in 1994. By then, I had gone with Chuck and Buzz Brindle to B95.5 and AM 590 WROW. That first blanket was given to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame after the flowers were taken off. It was was square in shape and is pictured on page 53 of Saratoga An Equine Tradition by Tom Killips (Troy Record). Just For ... The Record Editor (Aug 23, 2008 | post #1)
Fans go crazy over tee shirt give away
I can surely attest that the attendance figures the last two Sundays at Saratoga were ... a little inflated. I was 11 of those people getting a cap ... and 13 of those getting a T-shirt. Hats Off! ... (or if you prefer) ... Shirts On! ... Please!?! (Aug 4, 2008 | post #2)
David Malachowski is a former guitarist for Aged in the Hills ... and former music director of the Shania Twain Band. This "real insider's" review of the SPAC Sheryl Crow concert is insightful, and hopefully we will see more of Mr. Malachowski's work. (Aug 1, 2008 | post #1)
US names new ambassador to Kosovo
1) Kosovo (or Kosova in Albanian) indeed did not bomb Serbia, the United States did. 2) I have not lost anything. I am a born American with ties to both Serbia and Albania. But that being said, I just don't believe that my Country (and God Bless America) can be an honest broker in Kosova (or Kosovo in Serbian). We simply have too much baggage. Mirupafshim! Dovidenja! Goodbye! And May Zot (God in Albanian) Bless Us All! (Jul 19, 2008 | post #4)
US names new ambassador to Kosovo
Kosovo poses a very important dilemma for American foreign policy. The US aided the Albanians that were expelled from the former Serbian province (and very justifiably). However, we had the appearance in the Balkan Wars of choosing up sides as opposed to being against any sort of ethnic cleansing by any party. The anti-Serb Pogrom of March 2004 was done during the time when Kosovo was under the protection of the US and its allies. During that embarrassment, America did nothing. Thus, America's credibility is virtually nonexistent. Rather than say that the US was opposed to any violence and would act accordingly and without prejudice, America chose up sides. Not one bombing sortie was flown against any party in the Balkans engaging Serbs. Thus, the Kosovars (and Bosniaks before them) knew that US Air Force was their Air Force while the Serbs knew that no matter who did what in the Balkans Wars, the Serbs were always the bombing targets. Therefore, I don't believe that America can be a constructive force in Kosovo. The Albanians know that when push comes to show we will always back them (either actively or by not stopping what their doing) and the Serbs know that in dealing with them, we only tell them what we want and what the the consequences will be be for non-compliance. One side has every reason to trust us, the other ... none at all. (Jul 19, 2008 | post #1)
Denis of Cork injured out for season
Denis of Cork was Trackside Steve's pick to win The Belmont Stakes. Track's pick in The Kentucky Derby and The Preakness Stakes was ... Big Brown. With Denis of Cork out of The Travers and Big Brown questionable (perhaps at best), the Saratoga Meeting is looking more and more like it will be ... Zito Time. Maybe Nick Zito really has something when he says that a key to winning training is to do it at ... Saratoga?!? Belmont winner Da'Tara is alive and well and training in ... Saratoga! Will the Acquittal of Nasr Oric Help, Hurt or Have No Effect on Reconciliation
The Former Yugoslavia's War Crimes Tribunal's Appeals Chamber in The Hague reversed the conviction of Bosnian Army Commander Nasr Oric for crimes against Bosnian Serbs in and around Srebrenica (although the Chamber clearly stated that they believed that serious crimes were committed in the area against Bosnian Serbs). Topix.com Questions: Do you think that General Oric's acquittal will have a positive, negative or no effect on efforts at reconciliation among Bosnia's Constituent Peoples? And why? Hi From St. Petersburg ... Russia
Good Morning, Insideprofile (and Saratoga Springs News editors and readers): Thanks so much for the welcome back. My, how The SSN has grown since I became its first editor in April of 2007. The new features, additional editors, and many advertisers all point to continued and increasing success. And just look at the number of comments. Regarding the question, no, I have not been to Krasnodar. In Russia, the cities that I stayed in are Moscow, Kaluga and St. Petersburg. Thanks so much, Steve (Jun 11, 2008 | post #5)
