Seven Dead in Tokyo Stabbing Rampage

Well, if you're "sick of life," you kill YOURSELF, not innocent people! Loser! Prayers for the victims in this sad situation.  (Jun 8, 2008 | post #5)

Fire Destroys Texas Governor's Mansion

I'm glad no one was inside/injured during the fire...and I also hope that the $10 million for renovations came from private sources and not taxpayers!  (Jun 8, 2008 | post #1)

13-year old Graduates From High School

Homeschoolers often have networks where the children engage in activities (academic, athletic, etc.), as well as socializing. I don't know about other states, but I know that in Florida, homeschool children have to be given the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities in the district they live in. (Tim Tebow, Florida quarterback, was homeschooled, but was able to play high school football this way.) This is clearly an extraordinary achievement, and I commend him for his sustained focus and follow-through...a s well as saying that this is an exceptional case which doesn't necessarily mean that homeschooling is inherently better than public school!  (Jun 7, 2008 | post #6)

Deputies: Woman Produced Fake Checks at Taco Bell

There is no "Great White Hope," you idiot, not when crimes like this cross all racial boundaries. I bet you just get a euphoric feeling when you see pictures of black suspects with stories, as those are typically the only ones you comment on. Obviously most pyramid schemes (like the Three Hebrew Boys case) are typically NOT perpetuated by minorities. And while I certainly don't condone what this woman and her accomplice did, they probably got a few thousand dollars at the most...as opposed to THIS woman, who stole $6 million: http://www.wltx.co m/news/story.aspx? storyid=47396. Not to mention companies with "creative " accounting (namely Enron and WorldCom), where they stole not only from investors, but their own employees as well.  (Jun 7, 2008 | post #27)

Ice Cream Man Accused of Molesting Girl

I'm not saying that 12-year-olds are the most responsible people in the world, but I was certainly thinking the same thing. Even if she WERE interested, as the adult he should have exercised better judgment. Guess he wanted to see what she would do for a Klondike bar....  (Jun 7, 2008 | post #16)

Deputies: Man Smothers Wife, Stabs Himself to Death

The guy (can't remember his name) who probably had something to do with the Hilton Head couple missing stabbed himself to death...but as you said, it IS a strange way to kill oneself. Must have hurt like he77....  (Jun 7, 2008 | post #34)

Heads roll at the Defense Department

So true...my only question is, what took so long? Both of these incidents happened months ago...makes me wonder if someone was waiting for another giant mistake to be made.  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #3)

Man Found Shot Outside Nightclub

As opposed to the educated, civilized culture that hires hit men, poisons food, orchestrates mass shootings and domestic terrorism and drawn-out revenge plots, runs over people with their cars, produces prolific serial killers and cannibalists, etc.? I see your point.  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #14)

Principals Kiss Goats For Fundraiser

LOL! I think it's a great idea to get kids involved in things like this...it teaches them early on about helping others and the value of contributing.  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #6)

High Schools Required to Have Defibrillators

This is a good idea, especially considering how many high school athletes have died in recent years from undiagnosed medical problems.  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #1)

Report: SC's Graduation Rate 4th Worst

Are you serious? Children don't graduate because their parents can't afford the fees? That is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I agree that the band and cheerleading fees are high (though I'm thinking they're not as high as you say they are), but considering how many trips they go on (that includes games), do you actually think gas pays for itself? Additionally, these activities get new uniforms every few years -- you don't want to pay for your child to look like Raggedy Ann, do you? Also, these are OPTIONAL activities, so why should the whole school pay for something that only a fraction of students are involved in? Also, for the homeroom fee, I'm assuming that includes locker rental. Yes, the lockers are already there, but the school has to pay company to come change the combinations each year...that is, unless you want all of your child's belongings stolen by the person who had the locker the year before, then have to pay to replace all of the textbooks and personal items. And speaking from personal experience, Richland 2 offers a myriad of opportunities for special education students, from self-contained to resource to real-world job training. All students are BY LAW placed in the "least restrictive environment," and at the very least are enrolled in electives with students in regular education classes. What I HAVEN'T seen you say is what YOU have done as a parent to help your child and inform the school of what your child needs if those needs are not currently being met.  (Jun 6, 2008 | post #56)
