Film documents Mormon role in gay marriage debate

QUOTE who="Pahoran "]The site with which Smurf continually spams the board is *not* an LDS site. It is a hate site disseminating hate propaganda, so naturally he identifies closely with it. Apart from that, he uses it to pre-empt all LDS arguments by creating the (false) impression that all such arguments are automatically false. This is a deceitful tactic called "poisoning the well." You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedi a.org/wiki/Poisoni ng_the_well [/QUOTE] Instead of reading that wiki site how about if you tell us what lies came out of Grandpasmurf's site. The anti-LDS site portrays the founding Mormons as liars, religious tricksters, sex-addict freaks and murderers. The present leadership are presented as clear-cut liars. I question how anything good can come out of a religion created by criminals. So tell us, where are the obvious lies in Grandpasmurf's siteYes, you're the spawn of Satan. Your LDS Church is actively persecuting people and you're supporting that persecutionNobody cares about your dopey doctrine. Your policy of persecution is what matters. Not "stated" policy nor "official " policy but real policyI can't say the same. Your activity on this board instills no sense of trust in me. For instance you came up with some totally fake $190K figure for how much the Mormon Church spent on anti-gay political efforts. It seems that you couldn't dispute Grandpasmurf's site so you made some pointless diversion about religious well-poisoning. You're playing word games to defend an evil policy.  (7 hrs ago | post #105)

Harman, Rohrabacher express skepticism over Afghan troop increases

The Afghanistan war is lost. Our gallant local allies over there have a government that (a) allows a husband to starve his wife if she refuses sex and (b) imposes the death penalty on those who reject Islam for another religion, say Christianity. That government wouldn't survive for even a day if American troops weren't present. Rohrabacher's idea of bribing local leaders has its merits but I doubt it's feasible. After all, if America could simply pay its enemies to be reasonable the U.S. would have had lots fewer warsI agree but the counterinsurgency mission will fail even if the 40,000 troops do arrive. We've reached the final stage before defeat is acknowledged: find somebody to blame for a lost cause.  (Saturday | post #8)

That's another neat feature of Topix: veiled death threats. By the way, that line about "causing your own destruction" is a very close paraphrase of what Hitler said about the Jews pre-WW2. Like, it wasn't HIS fault if the Jews misbehavior brought death to them. The lesson here is that the right-tards are getting really tired about this never-ending gay rights issue. Worried too.  (Friday Nov 20 | post #83)

Gee, I don't know. Neither do youWho says so? What's your source? Who did the accounting? Why the answer is the Mormon Church.  (Thursday Nov 19 | post #68)

That's why I love Topix; there are so many geniuses posting here. But no, Spain used to be the Roman Hispania and that term meant the entire peninsula south of the Pyrenees mountains. At some point Castile managed to rule most of the area and they made the Portuguese angry by calling their country Spain. People from Spain and Portugal have always been Hispanic. Too bad if you have a different, albeit stupid definition.  (Thursday Nov 19 | post #67)

As far as I know they did exactly that in MaineThat's exactly what the Pope did a year ago when he led efforts to oppose a UN Human Rights declaration calling for the decriminalization of gay sex. http://www.foxnews .com/story/0,2933, 464245,00.html http://www.timeson line.co.uk/tol/com ment/faith/article 5268745.ece  (Thursday Nov 19 | post #59)

What's this stuff about the Mormon menace? Why is everyone afraid to identify the very much more powerful Catholic church by name? The recent election in Maine happened in a state where there are very few LDS. As far as I know it was the Roman Catholic church that created the Maine "people's veto" movement and was its primary financier. Has anyone done an objective study to see how much money was given by the RCC versus the LDS for anti-gay initiatives? Similarly, people who march in pro-life (anti-abortion) rallies are overwhelmingly Catholic and strongly anti-gay. That's the truth of the matter but it's easier to pick on the Mormons. Not that that's wrong.  (Thursday Nov 19 | post #48)

Obama Says US, Allies Discussing Iran Sanctions

October 23 was supposed to have been the deadline for Iran to accept without reservation the uranium processing deal. It's now a month later and Teheran is still playing games about issuing a formal response. They're working on building a nuclear arsenal and there is no purpose in negotiating anything with them. It's time for Obama to end the chatter about possible sanctions - whatever that means. Bomb Iran already. If the USA can't do it stay away while Israel does the job.  (Thursday Nov 19 | post #5)

Iran brushes aside U.N. nuclear deal

Some pedantic individuals might claim that it's not official since to be official there has to be a proper document complete with ribbons, seals and all kinds of flowery language. But yeah, the Iranians have rejected this lastest, most final, really ultimate proposal. Actually they did that when the deadline of October 23 passed without them saying anything formal or official. It's time that sanctions be applied. What do I mean by sanctions? Massive bombing. That should have happened years ago.  (Wednesday Nov 18 | post #8)

Libertarian official is registered sex offender

You can do this authoritatively? By what authority? Who are you and why do you care about Barnes' file? How did you acquire access to his fileWho are you quoting? It's certainly not Barnes. It's some unnamed investigator who may have accurately summarized what Barnes said - or maybe not so accurately. The fact remains that Barnes has not been charged with having committed any crime since 1987. That doesn't make him innocent during that time but that could be said of any other person in the United States. Barnes has supposedly uncontrollable sexual impulses - that he has been able to control. Silliness.  (Wednesday Nov 18 | post #66)

Early poll gives Hahn an edge in statewide race

The way I see it is if Janice gets elected Lt. Governor in 2010 she stands a good chance of being Obama's Vice-Presidential choice in 2012. Joe Biden, I feel, is too conservative for most Democrats and will be too old for a presidential race in 2016. Since California is a key state the President would be advised to solidify his support from liberals and women. All this pandering Obama has done to rightwingers has accomplished nothing for him.  (Monday Nov 16 | post #38)

US, Russia Say Sanctions a Posssibility for Iran

That's an incorrect translation. The Iranians had been given a deadline of October 23 to formally say "yes" to the proposal. That's three and a half weeks ago and Iran has yet to give a formal response, though there's been lots of negative chatter. A correct translation would be that Obama wants Medvedev to say there WILL (not MIGHT) be SPECIFIC sanctions but Medvedev speaks about a possibility of unnamed sanctions. Bottom line is that the Russians have agreed to nothing.  (Monday Nov 16 | post #6)

Molestation jurors: Did we get it wrong?

So these are the idiots upon whom the jury system is based. If they were unsure about Senter's guilt they were supposed to have voted Not Guilty. That's what the judge told them to do. The jurors were NOT to consider anything else. They were NOT to worry about the consequences of a hung jury and whether or not the two girls would be required to testify. They were only to decided if there was some reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case. The jurors were paid for their time but they appear not to have done their job.  (Sunday Nov 15 | post #87)

Rapist-child molester set for release; to live in Topanga Canyon

I'm not on any registry since I've never been convicted of any crime. I've also never been arrested or indicted for any crime and in fact I've never committed any crime. People who do things like rape/molestation deserve to go to jail and that's what happened in this case. The offender's sentence has expired so he should be set free. That's how American justice is supposed to operate but with sex-offenders the constitution gets scrapped and prosecutors get to hold offenders after their allotted time. They now claim it's a civil matter, not a criminal matter, but jail is jail no matter what it's called. In this thread "scarface " called for killing the offender, his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend. You made veiled threats against me. That's enough reason to end the sex-offender registry system since it's nothing but a target list, the 21st Century's equivalent to the InquisitionHey, great idea. Let's extend it to people who very likely committed serious crimes but avoided justice through sharp lawyers, stupid jurors or uncaring judges. That way nobody charged with any crime would ever be set free. The Orange County judge in this case would have been too frightened to set the rapist free since there's always the chance of another offense. Hey, I'm glad you're thinking. Keep up the great thoughts!  (Friday Nov 13 | post #94)
