I hear you Pinoy, however your father and yourself may be tolerant to Avandia where others may not. My concern is GSK knew of problems much earlier than the issue became publicly known. I can understand peoples concerns when the media publish such items, because if it were up to major companies and government agencies the consumers would know even less. I took Avandia for 4.5 years,it near killed me in 2004. If the media coverage was public earlier I might have a reasonable life now. The Spud  (Aug 25, 2007 | post #14)

Should Avandia Remain on the Market? What Do You Think?

Definately NOT. I personally have suffered what I believe to be adverse side effects of Avandia. Medical people could not offer any valid or scientific explanation for my medical condition, apart from, Well that"s the way things are, basically. They seem unwilling to examine the facts around Avandia. I went from fit and active to an invalid within a couple of months,with no logical explanation.  (Aug 5, 2007 | post #2)

I was diagnosed to have diabetes during a routine medical 1989.I took various oral medications for the next ten years then 1999 was put on insulin. During this time I personally felt fit with no adverse reactions to the medications.In 2000 I was put on avandia with views of stopping insulin. Within 4 to 6 weeks I began to retain fluid,gain weight,suffer back pain and in 2004 was hospitalised with heart failure.They took me off avandia,I no longer retain fluid and my weight has gone back to what it was but the other problems still exist.In 2000 I asked the doctor about side effects and was told it was not the drugs causing problems yet they could not tell me what was.I think avandia was the cause. I feel I too may be suffering ill effects of avandia which I took for over four years,until late 2004 when it looked like curtains for me. It seems that avandia has side effects which greatly increase risks of problems that diabetics are already prone to. So why prescribe it. Spud49  (Jul 3, 2007 | post #42)
