Gonso to lead search for IU coach

No Ron Hunter is not typing these. I am an IU fan that also has the privelage to attend many IUPUI games because of the proximity to my home as well. I have seen what Hunter does with kids who don't go to the "Big Time" universities. I can only imagine what he can do with those who kids who do go to the "Big Time". To the poster who said race should make a difference in the hiring process. I hope you are wrong. We are not in the 1960's anymore. If a coach can coach and do what the university is asking of him/her. Then that person, no matter race, religion, creed, etc, should be hired. I don't know exactly what IU is looking for. I believe it starts with someone who wins (at any level), runs a clean program, is community knowlegable, etc. I just think that they should at least interview and see what Coach Hunter has to offer. He is already in the IU system (educational wise). Why not start there. If they end up giving it to someone else they have at least looked at a good coach within their own system. That is just my opinion.  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #163)

RCA Dome auction is bilking taxpayers, lawsuit says

If the Dome was paid off then I would agree. Let it happen but the tax payers of Indianapolis are still paying for it. They debt on the place should be paid off first. Only after the debt is taken off the tax rolls should proceeds be divided up for other organizations. Personally, once the Dome is off the tax roll, I think proceeds should go (however big or small) towards the new tax in building Lucas Oil Stadium. To help pay that thing down quicker. The tax payers should be the charity that is helped. If the Colts or others want to give money, then they have enough in tax breaks, licencing, ticket prices, etc. to give. They don't need the tax payers to subsidise that as well.  (Mar 19, 2008 | post #204)

Gonso to lead search for IU coach

Put him at a bib university and things will happen. He alone has brought IUPUI up the level it is. His recruiting and game planning and scheduling. Put him at big Univeristy and he will do wonders. Especially when he is not fight name recognition and higher profile programs. He can talk about large crowds and TV time and traditions. Ron Hunter would make any large university proud in my book.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #138)

RCA Dome auction is bilking taxpayers, lawsuit says

Tax payers first other organizations second in my book. The proceeds need to get the Dome of the tax rolls first before delving out more money. I would also say that profits should go towards the building of the new stadium that is also on the tax payers (doughnut counties on this one) radar as well. The tax payers are the charity that needs the help now. Especially with the economy in the shape it is now. The Colts and CIB are for profit organizations in my opinion. They can raise ticket prices (for those who can afford to enter the palace) to pay for charities if they want. Dont bilk the tax payers, especially those who don't use the facility. I can count the number of times I went into the RCA Dome and not come to ten. Yet, paying taxes when renting a car or for family to come into town and stay at hotels. I payed for that palace that isn't enough anymore. Time to use any profits from the sale of items to the true charity in our community. The tax payers.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #187)

VH1, Brighthouse give musical instruments to schools

With the rumor mill talking about how Dr. White is about to cut music and physical education classes in IPS because of the budget. I wonder if these instraments will be used or just collect dust in the back room of some school?  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #7)

Americans should start seeing tax rebates in May

Maybe my medical bill (the collection companies) will finally get paid off then. That is how I am going to help the economy.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #51)

RCA Dome auction is bilking taxpayers, lawsuit says

I have not read the article but listened to WTHR about the issue. I agree that all proceeds should go to paying the place off and getting it off the tax rolls before benifiting others. The proceeds should first benefit the tax payers who are already strapped for cash first. Only, after the dome is payed off should any left overs go to other organizations.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #11)

Jaguars left out of postseason play

So, you are saying that IUPUI is again being hurt by the conference. A top team in this conference needs to grow three to five years to be competative in another conference. That means the conference is not helping to take the program to the level it needs to be. In order to get a at-large bid or at least (in this case) an invite to the other tournaments. You just helped prove my point. Thanks.  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #39)

Gonso to lead search for IU coach

They need to look at a coach already in the Indiana system. Just up the road. IUPUI's Ron Hunter. No he does not bring a name to the table. He does bring a heck of a coaching resume'. The ability to recruit and bring Indiana recruits in and motivate them to play at or above their level. He is fun to watch on the sidelines as well. To not at least give him an interview would be a mistake. Ron Hunter is a proven winner. (Bob Knight was not a household name when IU hired him either.)  (Mar 18, 2008 | post #8)

Seeding committee does IU no favors

Who really cares about IU seeding. I would bet that if IU were to play IUPUI the Jags would win. They are playing the better basketball than IU lately (and they were left out of any tournament). IU is one and done in my opinion. On my bracket sheet as well. I nominate Ron Hunter for the next coaching job at IU. Runs a clean program, can recruit local kids, and is fun to watch. I will be purchasing season tickets to IUPUI games next season. Not IU games.  (Mar 17, 2008 | post #109)

Jaguars left out of postseason play

If it is conference affiliation. Maybe IUPUI should look into joining another conference like Valparaiso did. Remaining in this conference will only hurt players and coaches. Maybe, IUPUI should look at possibly joining the Missouri Valley or Horizon Conferences. The snub by these tournaments is a slap in the face of these players.  (Mar 17, 2008 | post #6)

Jaguars left out of postseason play

Too much politics in this. IUPUI deserved to be in one of the tournaments. The players did what they had too. The committees of the tournaments are the ones who made a mistake. Like Rodney Dangerfield said and a variation should be IUPUI's motto. "We get no respect."  (Mar 17, 2008 | post #5)

Senate approves permanent tax caps

I agree. They are afraid of not getting the illegal vote though. Look at this deal. They are setting Indiana up to be a WELFARE STATE not only for Hoosiers but for Latin America and all illegals as well. The meaning of Hoosier will soon be: Hoosier: Uneducated and ILLEGAL. Welcome to our state.  (Mar 14, 2008 | post #119)

Look for extreme cuts in education next year in Indianapolis. Closing schools, larger class sizes, and teacher lay-offs. Especially at the middle and high school levels where federal funds to keep class sized down do not occur. Thank you to our legislature that for putting us now in a education crisis. We already know the middle and high school years is when kids leave (drop out). You have now contributed to that happening. Congratulations. I hope you can live with yourself. Just as I hope in the future the Indiana society can live with all the un-educated. Setting Indiana up for failure is a great accomplishment. Way to go.  (Mar 14, 2008 | post #115)
