New national mens store chain at far north end of Mirabea...

YES, the far north end is being worked on, I have a good friend that works at Bealls and they know someone is going in next door, but no idea who it is! You can see them in there working on the store right now. I was just wondering if anyone knew what it was?!?!?!?!  (Apr 17, 2008 | post #4)

Target bought flea market property

Thats exactly it, the city(permit office) would be in charge of this, that is completely seperate from the Chamber of Commerce. Let me put it this way, the PEDC and the Chamber are not going after Target or any other retail institution to build here, its a commodity! Its a retail company that decides its locations based on certain area demographics. The Chamber did not go after Wal-Mart and Sears and they did not go after Chilis or Applebees. Those companies looked at a market where they saw potential growth and met with the city of Paris about a proposed plan to locate a site in the city. The city then votes on whether to issue a permit to approve building or not to issue a permit. Where as the PEDC will go after a company that is putting the information out that they are looking for a place to relocate or build, for example Kimberly Clark. When a company like that is looking to build, they will put out a press release and will visit a site, city, or location. The PEDC's job is to go out and scout companies that are looking to build and or relocate. The Chamber of Commerce's job is to be an ambassador for the City of Paris, kind of help with PR if you will. They are in charge of large groups such as the Archery Tournament, things like this!! Each depeartment of the city has its own specific branch of job that they do and sometimes it will take months before a company will issue a press release that it is building here or that they have recieved a permit to build here!!! That is when other branches of the city will know about it!!!  (Apr 16, 2008 | post #34)

Target bought flea market property

Believe me I'm good friends with the Director of the Chamber and they wouldnt always know. They would definitely know if a BIG company of some sort was coming in. They would help do the PR for Paris along with the city. As far as a restaurant or a new store. No idea! They knew nothing of Petco and Tuesday Morning and things like that coming in. They didnt even know that a new Holiday Inn Express was coming in until it was published!! THE present HOLIDAY INN didnt even know about a new one unti it was in the Paris News!!!!!!!!!!  (Apr 16, 2008 | post #31)

As of 2004 Paris is growing at a rate of about 1.9% per year, thats about an average of 600 people per year. Paris was at about 25,500 people in 2004, with a growth rate of about 1.9% that would put us at about 27,900 give or take a few hundred. Reno is growing slower at about 1.4%. They had a population of just about 3,000 in 2004. The growth rate for them would put them at about 3,500. Thus saying that inside the main city limits of Paris(I dont think anyone would argue that you would not include Reno)there is a little over 31,000 people.  (Apr 16, 2008 | post #29)

I know for a fact that population is not a factor when considering a location. The population of Sherman is around 35,000 and the first Red Lobster location there was not on a major highway. Greenvile is smaller than Paris by a few thousand people and they have one. It may be that a major highway is present in or around the city would be my only guess. Other than that I would assume that no one is wanting to purchase a franchise because they are afraid to go up against the Fish Fry, which I believe to be VERY OLD and outdated and not as good as before!!!  (Apr 16, 2008 | post #27)

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! What makes you seperate of such a law that would demand or control anything YOU see as a crime or "sin"??? ??? How would your crimes and your "sins" be justified according to what someone else would see fit as "moral"? ?  (Apr 15, 2008 | post #10)
