Mexico: Was U.S. Man Really Shot by Pirates?

Obama in San Francisco in '08: “You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And it’s not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” This statement paints a picture, ever wonder why the Fed's didn't get involved? Because it's anti-immigrant (illegals), anti-trade, antipathy because they don't look like you. Arizona is a fine example of what to expect, lawsuits for interferring. I wish what you say were true but everything points in a totally different direction. 30,000 people have been killed since Calderon took office in Mexico. 79 Americans citizens have been killed due to drug violence. 22 men were kidnapped this month in Acapulco. Has anybody heard a word from the current administration about any of this? All I've heard is Republicans are blocking my goals so vote Democrat. I highly doubt the US government will do anything about it, and the Mexican government is in on it. So, I doubt you will see much change in the way of cleaning up the drug gangs, kinda like the BP spill. Ignore it and it will go away seems to be the way this administration handles things.  (Oct 27, 2010 | post #93)

Trying to be fair, but this chart is taken out of context and not backed up with anything other than the chart itself. You next post while very fair in its assessment, when actually read says "Budget Surplus", not balanced budget with a surplus of government money. The surplus was gained from Social Security, which everyone says is broke. But as you wish, this is too far off topic, just calling it for how I see it. It ain't a Dem/Repub thang! I'll save it for another day...  (Oct 21, 2010 | post #351)

Obviously you don't know a lot about jetski's, they are exremely reliable, very fast and highly manuverable to begin with. It would be exactly what you would use in that situation. Besides, they are the alternative to a boat, much better for sight seeing expeditions than a boat better viewing, more manuverability for getting into places where maybe a sunken area has shallow water where a boat will not go. What about all the other people using the area? The fishermen and the like that are commenting about how they never see anything, anything fishy about that? The report you sited about her changing her story is statements mainly from Mexican officials who are known to be swayed and corrupt. Like you said they lived in the area, and had lived there for a long time, I would venture to say they felt safe in the area, just like the wife reported in the first interviews. There are to many varying news reports on this issue and it seems to come down to for and against her story. Mostly the Mexican government wants to insult her and say it didn't happen, then news reports begin to side with that line of thinking. Nothing, including a witness, has surfaced to refute her testimony in any way, only the guesses and skeptical minds make up peices of hype from indirect statements without actual names attached to them.  (Oct 17, 2010 | post #79)

Agreed, America is doomed as long as this border is not secured, it should now be the very first order of business above everything happening in the US at this time. Nothing is more important to a country than to defend its borders.  (Oct 16, 2010 | post #70)

The latest reports are that the body was destroyed, that coming from multiple news sources, to quote one: CNN "The sources told Stratfor the attack was unauthorized by senior Los Zetas members and "a damage control campaign is currently under way ... to identify and eliminate those who engaged the Hartleys without proper authorization. " Protocol involves prompt disposition of a body to ensure no evidence can be brought against the group, the report said. Sources said that "once Hartley was identified as an American, his body was destroyed the same day as the incident to prevent a backlash from the U.S. government against the group," Stratfor said." So, this discussion is pretty much over, the Zeta gang is taking responsibility for it.  (Oct 15, 2010 | post #68)

Not to butt in but... The last time anyone "saw" him, he had an orange life jacket on. Are you really so naive as to believe he was left floating in the water, they are pirates, they would check for valuables don't you think? Then, would they just throw him back in, or take the life jacket off so he would sink? Maybe the life jacket was worth something to one of them? My point being, that was a lame arguement.  (Oct 13, 2010 | post #64)

You can bet if it was the other way around, a Mexican killed by an American, Mexico's Prez would show up demanding justice wanting heads to roll, just like the drug mule kid shot by Border Patrol while being pelted with rocks. Yet, not a word from the Oval Office even after the wife pleaded on national TV to him personally, what a loser.  (Oct 13, 2010 | post #59)

And not a word from the White House, this is an international incident. This is Federal jurisdiction not state. Where is Homeland Security in all this? WTF is wrong with this country? The entire area would have been crawling with Fed's a few years back, but not a peep from the powers that be. And yet the government has the time to sue Arizona for trying to do something to aleviate some of these problems.  (Oct 13, 2010 | post #57)

Who do you support for Governor in Arkansas in 2010?

Too little too late, pre-election antics. It takes an election to get him to do something about well known problems like state vehicles, but timing is everything in order to swing the votes.  (Oct 13, 2010 | post #84)
