So the Constitution was wrong about the role of the Supreme Court? Yeah, you know more about the Constitution than the Supreme Court. Liar. (4 min ago | post #18381)

Sorry liar. But if you actually read my link, you'd see there were scholars listed as the source for the information. " * Hugo Adam Bedau, ed., The Death Penalty in America (New York: Oxford University Press, 1982). * Vincent Buranelli, The Eighth Amendment (Englewood Cliffs, N.J.: Silver Burdett, 1991). * Welsh S. White, The Death Penalty in the Nineties: An Examination of the Modern System of Capital Punishment (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press 1991)" Why do you make proving you wrong so easy for me? YOU are incorrect. "Capital punishment has been practiced in the United States since the founding of the republic. During the founding period, several crimes were punishable by death in the 13 states: murder, treason, piracy, arson, rape, robbery, burglary, sodomy, counterfeiting, horse theft, and slave rebellion." http://www.answers .com/topic/capital -punishment Sorry liar, but the facts prove you wrong. Problem is, those that matter most in terms of Constitutional law, mainly our court system and Supreme Court, don't agree with you. So, for 41 years and counting the law still stands, and We the People stand by it. (2 hrs ago | post #18372)

The tyranny of the majority. Oh, those poor felons (the minority) you are talking about. If only they kept their nose clean and didn't break a serious crime. They too would be that tyrannical majority of law abiding citizens. I vast majority of felons were incarcerated and not put to death during the time of our founding? Again. Please provide that statistical data. How do you know this? It is not a change of subject. When talking about our founders and claiming that they didn't keep guns from felons, we MUST talk about what the penalty for a felony was. It was death. And dead men don't get their guns back. Class based? Felons and non felons? I will be reclassed? Not as long as I continue to be a law abiding citizen. I never though of criminal history as a class. (2 hrs ago | post #18368)

Do you have any statistics on that? What percentage of criminals were incarcerated and not put to death? And I think you're thinking about Hollywood westerns. A, if they were in the Wild West during our founding of 13 states, they weren't in the US. Secondly, the Wild West occurred many decades later. (10 hrs ago | post #18352)

But we're talking about the what our founders believed. And they did not return guns to felons, they put convicted felons to death. The more lenient society we have today did allow felons to get their guns back prior to 1968, but we the people, through our representatives decided to put an end to that. For the greater good of the whole of society. Felons make up less than 1%. The greater good is the rest of us. (10 hrs ago | post #18350)

I think you missed the point. In the time of our founders, felonies were punishable by death. So felons didn't get their freedom back. So dead men can't buy guns. Today we are little more lenient. We allow them back into society instead of hanging them for burglary or horse theft. They should be happy we now allow them to live and enter society. I'm not going to shed a tear if they don't get to buy guns too. (21 hrs ago | post #18337)
