Judge threatens to hold Pr. George's Council in contempt ...

Religious discimination..thats rich, how about the church discriminating against homeowners in the community who want a quiet Sunday morning? Also that is prime land, if anything is going to be built there it should be more of the McMansions that are taxable, and fit in with the community better than a tax exempt monstrosity that does nothing but ruin the neighborhood.I am wondering just how many attendees of that church actually live in the West Laurel community? Nope with the massive amounts of commercial space for sale in the area the church should think about moving into existing commercial infrastructure rather than ruining the water source the whole county uses. From what I have read the community does not want the church built there, the elected politicians should listen to them.  (Jul 26, 2011 | post #1)

Church, neighbors square off over West Laurel site

How about asking the residents, referendum style? We are the ones who pay the taxes and will have to live with the added noise and disruption. My question is that this is prime land, almost right on the water, and will always back up to the woods, you see all the McMansions on Brooklynn Bridge so why would our elected officials give away a prime taxable location to a tax exempt entity? I'd rather see another subdivision of taxable constituents than a huge, monolithic community ruining church go up. Doesn't sound like our elected officials are looking out for their constituents. Seriously the Giant in Burtonsville Plaza is now vacant and there is plenty of room to expand out in the strip malls other vacant stores so why not move into there?  (May 5, 2011 | post #1)

Laurel Residents Protest Controversial Church Development

Sounds like a nice quiet neighborhood is going to be ruined by these mega churchs. Mosque on Sweitzer, Christian churches on Brooklyn Bridge, West Laurel in the middle. Can't they lease the old Giant in Burtonsville Plaza? Plenty of leasable space in downtown Laurel too, why ruin the Sunday peace and quiet as well as the enviroment of a established neighborhood when there is already plenty of leasable space already built? Sounds like constituent discrimination to me.  (Apr 28, 2011 | post #1)

What's in Store: Laurel

-Pal Jacks.....thats some good pizza, don't let the outside scare you away. -Laurel Meat Market has that old time feel, makes you feel like they care. -Olivers(I don't know the new name) is a great place to have a beer, truly a Laurel icon. -Red Hot and Blue, food, atmosphere it's all there. -Take a stroll along the river on a warm summers evening -Not on Main Street but you can't talk about Laurel without talking about Tippy' Toucan Taco(old time Laurelites will always call it Tippy's) Cooks hardware store, The metal patches on the old wood floor were awesome. One of my favorite trips as a kid was to that store, they had everything it seemed, and Pops enjoyed the trip as much as I did. Woolworths was cool too, all those toys on the upper shelves, I wanted everyone dust covered one of them. Had that lunch counter, and Mom always fed us there, and my sister and I always felt grownup sitting there. Will there be a main street festival this year?  (Apr 22, 2011 | post #1)

Pact with Prince George County developer clears way for f...

Can the folks at Virginia Manor Road clean the construction entrance there? I'm tired of my car being covered in MD Red Clay when I get home. I know cracked windshields and chipped paint repairs help the economy but seriously clean the friggin road, every day, every time it gets dirty, show some respect/courtesy for your fellow citizens. Also hows about a water truck to clean the vehicles off when they leave the site, really tired of these arseholes popping out in traffic and showering everybody with the crude they are too lazy to wash off their vehicle. It costs money to have that water truck there, but I thought that was the law, what happened? These ICC construction folks make a state highway road crew look competent. What a disappointment.  (Apr 20, 2011 | post #1)

Obama: Iraq war is ending, Baghdad to chart future

Didn't believe it when Bush proclaimed it, really don't believe it when Obama says it. As a matter of fact Iraq seems to be falling back into chaos under Obamas watch, will he try to blame Bush, or Republicans in general or will he follow his own ramblings and take personal responsibility for his administrations apparent failure in Iraq?  (Aug 28, 2010 | post #1)
