Police pursuit ends in crash, arrest

No one was hurt in the crash, but... the driver who was being pursued was: injured when he was bitten by a police dog, hit with an electric shock device and... sprayed with a chemical irritant. Priceless! This story made my day - good [thorough] work IMPD!  (Mar 15, 2008 | post #9)

Hillary Clinton plans Indiana tour next week

Bill Clinton ran for president on a platform of "the need for Universal Health Care" Four years later, [his wife having failed at the job] he made the same promise again. Eight years later Hillary [and Obama] are talking Universal Health Care My JOBS don't provide me with health care - I pay for it on my own. I sometimes work an extra part time job to make ends meet. I don't waste money on things I don't need (cable TV, a more expensive car than I can afford, etc.) My health care is therefore "affordable " I make the right choice in regards to responsibility for my healthcare as opposed to crying, "poor me, I'm uninsured." The government doesn't take care of my car insurance or home owner's insurance - why should they meddle in my health care? Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent failures at every level of government proved that BUREAUCRACY KILLS. Putting the government in charge of health care is the worst possible thing we could do - especially with the economy tanking... Taxes will have to increase - putting people out of work - therefore creating more people who are without healthcare. My taxes will likely increase by more than the amount I now pay for my own health care - therefore making me no longer able to afford it. Meanwhile a FEMA-like government agency called Universal Health Care will have trucks loaded with band-aids driving all over the country while people bleed to death. The Republicans had one decent candidate and he's got the nomination wrapped up. The Democrats had one decent candidate (Bill Richardson) but the "rock stars" Obama and Clinton are all the media care about. This isn't "American Idol" folks - were electing the leader of the free world. Like it or not, the only decent choice left is McCain.  (Mar 14, 2008 | post #249)

Area home sales continue slide

Don't worry, the county assessor will value your home at $200K for tax purposes.  (Mar 13, 2008 | post #32)

Property tax agreement reached

A "Cap" of one percent of ASSESSED value is NOT a cap! All it takes to raise property tax is re-assessment. My property has already been assessed at double it's value. In the 70's California got it right: http://www.hjta.or g/proposition13 Thirty years later, Indiana got it wrong. Our elected officials have completely failed us.  (Mar 13, 2008 | post #261)

Assessor: 'Re-do' may 'bankrupt this county'

As long as there is still such a thing as an assessor, our elected officials have failed to solve our property tax crisis. Taxing property is unconstitutional, however, if those taxes are limited to one percent of the PURCHASE PRICE of the property and those revenues are used solely for maintenance of sidewalks, etc in those neighborhoods then property tax would serve homeowners who pay those taxes. However, In my neighborhood there are still old broken down marble curbs. That's something like 80 years of misappropriation of funds - also known as: Taxation Without Representation* Even though nationwide home values have dropped, my home has also been assessed at double what I paid for it (only a year and a half ago)and more than double what I could sell it for (due to rampant crime in the neighborhood) See the problem? As long as there is an assessor, there is always the possibility of taxes being raised and people losing their homes, retirement, livelihood. *See: American Revolution  (Mar 12, 2008 | post #157)

People need to stop crying racism. Sports fans refer to white athletes who behave like thugs as THUGS also.  (Mar 7, 2008 | post #253)

Although there have been some stupid racist comments here, the word thug is not a racial slur. It a word used to describe a criminal or someone who behaves like one. "He had an extensive vocabulary... " Did that surprise you? Why would that surprise many of us? Who's the racist here? Having a positive experience when meeting a player does not excuse the behavior of that person when it comes to representing the team they play for. Ron Artest sat next to me at a Fever game - He's a nice guy. That doesn't mean that he should have been retained by the Pacers after the incident in Detroit.  (Mar 7, 2008 | post #247)

Amen! I'd love for there to be a NBA team in Indy worth supporting. Even if they're rebuilding while taking a big financial blow paying for contracts of thugs they released - if they have players who are decent people that understand the concept of teamwork, I'll be there. Harrison has failed three drug tests and still has a job? Bird has failed more than five THUG TESTS and he still has a job. The Simons need to model their NBA franchise after their W franchise. Kelly Krauskoph makes the Fever better every year and there are NEVER any problems. The Colts have been done for over a month. The Fever don't start until May. What am I supposed to watch in the meantime - cars driving around in circles?  (Mar 7, 2008 | post #197)
