Why I知 no longer a Christian

If you're really into it and want to know more, I really recommend that Pinker book. And this. http://www.dilbert .com/dyn/str_strip /000000000/0000000 0/0000000/000000/2 0000/6000/200/2628 3/26283.strip.sund ay.gif  (20 hrs ago | post #208100)

What do you do in FL to celebrate the holidays? I miss talking with you. :*( (By the way, what's poking out, I don't think are piggies.)  (20 hrs ago | post #208096)

They may have held beliefs, but that doesn't mean the beliefs were true. If I believed someone was holding my family hostage even though he/she _actually_ wasn't, I'd risk my life to save them. That doesn't mean I was right; that means I came to a bad conclusion based on faulty/wrong information. And I'm not speaking of the followers. They were going by what they were told and not bothering to fact check or critically think. I'm taking of the _source_ of the information.  (20 hrs ago | post #208093)

Exactly. But don't you think the way they did it was genius? Sometimes I wonder if they know what kind of impact these ideas would have on the world. But I don't think someone was like, "Hmmm. Let's personalize the savior archetype, tell people certain events "fulfill prophecy," and then convince people this personal savior is omniscient and god and human--all simultaneously! Voila! But ___it works!!!!___ Whether a person wants to paternalize the god concept (call Him "Father" or "Mother" to make up for the parental support and role model he/she never had and can't supply him/herself) or create some distant and vacuous being, in the end, they all get the god they believe in. Funny how that happens.  (20 hrs ago | post #208091)

Not only that, but Christianity glorifies scapegoating. Like, what's ethical and moral about my accepting of someone else's humiliation, torture, and death for my own personal benefit? And why would a god consider that a good thing? Incidentally, my daughter's name is Lucidia. Every time I read your posts about lucidity, I read it as "Lucidia. " I really need a vacation.  (Wednesday | post #207788)

Why I知 no longer a Christian

People ask me why I don't believe God exists. I answer, "With the same reason I know the tooth fairy and Santa don't exist."  (Wednesday | post #207786)
