Critics at public meeting blast Rosemont Mine plan
Hi engineer : Good to hear from you . How's fishing ? Must be a real battle these days with costs of materials for mining . Prices for iron ore and coal appear to have been finally settled at astronomical levels for this year . At $145± / barrel the price of oil does no one any favors - except the producers and perhaps Gayle if she has gone back to the good ole life style of a hunter-gatherer. Hope your having a good 4th . Finally had a few drops of rain . all it did was raise the humidity so the 40°C temperatures are a bit sticky. Big gatherings at the river as it had water flowing in ir. Water was from rains in the Sierras . Take care Sleibhin (15 hrs ago | post #9)

Hi Gayle : Hope you are having a good 4th weekend. One small item that you forgot to address in your posting: """ """ You did not confirm that you had renounced all items that use, in part, copper. Makes one wonder if you are a : I want the "good life" but don't mine in my backyard kind of a person". """ "" Also you have something against sand dunes ? Great place for 4Wheelers . No don't tell me you are against them . As for your attitude and whether your are one of those "ugly Americans / gringo feo " I could care less . By the way who do you want to acquire control of Asarco - Mexicans or Indians ? (15 hrs ago | post #8)

Gayle : Mining does not destroy mountains . It could be termed an " Altitude Adjustment" whereas perhaps a person of your mindset could do with an Attitude Adjustment. You have a good one now. Sleibhin (Wednesday Jun 25 | post #5)

Typical gringo - NOT in my backyard. SORRY but that's where the deposit is and that's where it will be mined . Any large Cu / skarn / porphyry deposit in Canada that is considered to "economically viable " is in production or in the planning stages. You did not confirm that you had renounced all items that use, in part, copper. Makes one wonder if you are a : I want the "good life" but don't mine in my backyard kind of a person". Venezuela puts nation first in mining
Down the road the deposits will be mined by either Russian or Chinese companies. (Sunday Jun 22 | post #1)
So Obie are you against strip mining of coal in all the states of the United States . Take care of your own before you start opposing development / job creation in another country. (Saturday Jun 21 | post #1)
Do a Google search with question " Where can I buy mercury? You could make it more specific if you added your State . You could also call any one of the laboratories operating in the State . They should be able to give name of companies where you could purchase a small quantity. (Friday Jun 20 | post #2)
Black Lung : United Mine Workers of America
Sweetpea:It would seem that it is very difficult to collect disability payments for black lung disease. looks like the companies fight payments right through the courts . Do a search . There are numerous cases. Here is one example . http://legal.right s.com/F.2d/678/678 .F2d.506.81-1715.h tml You are probably aware of this ; Federal black lung benefits are offset by state workers' compensation benefits for the same disease. If state black lung benefits are less than federal black lung benefits, then the federal black lung program covers the difference. Social Security disability benefits are also reduced by the amount of black lung benefits received. http://www.dol.gov /compliance/guide/ blklung.htm#CompAs sist (Wednesday Jun 18 | post #2)
Rio Tinto profit puts pressure on BHP
This thread was started by CONCERNED so he could rant some more about the FRIENDLY takeover of Alcan by Rio Tinto . You need to read some of the other threads re Alcan in order to ascertain the mental state / delusion of the poster from Quebec. In simple terms he hates any person who is not a quebecer . No it's obtaining copper to make mundane things like copper wire - that is if you use electricity . amazing how much copper goes into constructing a wind farm or solar farm . Then of course you have your fridge, freezer, television and on . Oh I forgot your automobile . Now for your information - your "almighty " put the mineral deposits where they are so man could harvest the riches of the earth and put them to use to better your quality of life . In reality it all goes back to plate tectonics with attendant uplift. downdrop and good old erosion . (Tuesday Jun 17 | post #2)
Vedanta push for Asarco hits bump in US court
So Giffords and Grijalva have sided with Grupo Mafia : " Vedanta's takeover of Asarco has also been objected to by two Arizona Congressmen who expressed concerns about the metals and mining major's environment track record. I guess Grupo's killing of coal miners and slowly but surely killing miners in Cananea with silicosis and who knows what else because of non-operable dust collectors, etc is acceptable to them . Perhaps it is a case of "money talks" . Take a good look at how they treat their miners and then think about how their lawyers will drag things out in the courts resolving what is the correct amount to pay . Then there is the small matter of the lawsuit brought against Grupo for stripping Asarco of its cntrolling interests in the Peruvian assets . (Sunday Jun 15 | post #1)
Alcan clears second of three conditions for Kitimat smelter upg...
Dave : Actually there are costs that increase related to the "stored rainwater". Somebody has to maintain and run the facility. Labor and material costs do not stay constant . Now we just have to wait and see if Project upgrade is given the green light by year end. (Tuesday Jun 10 | post #44)
Alcan clears second of three conditions for Kitimat smelter upg...
Dave : Energy prices keep going up - YES for power generated at coal, oil or gas power facilities. Price of stored "rain water" stays the same . All mining companies, including Rio, have their in-house estimates for metal prices . they generally don't share them with the competition . They leave generation of public data to the analysts . Based on eighteen estimates for 2008 the range for price of aluminum is from $2316 to $4000 per tonne . The average price calculates to be $2660 per tonne . Cash price today is $2898 per tonne . Futures for 3 months $2900 / tonne and for 15 months out the price is $3000 / tonne . Before the year is out there will be a green light for upgrading the Kitimat Smelter . (Jun 4, 2008 | post #42)

Well you are entitled to your opinion . I think you are wrong . A smelter complex with hydro based electrical power is a valuable - as long as it keeps raining . Notice problems in southern hemisphere at smelters ? (Jun 3, 2008 | post #40)
