Burrell Overlook Mansion

Ish, Don't you read the papers? The closing for the Mansion was recorded this fall and was listed in the real estate transactions in the OD  (Feb 7, 2010 | post #535)

It's clear you have NO idea what you are talking about. * Finding grants does not imply that your organization is eligible to apply * Many grants have very short windows from the opening of the application process to the application deadline * Where did you get the idea that my organization did not receive any of the grants we have applied for? Our track record is dam good. The biggest problem we have faced is that while the grant was approved the actual funding for the grant was held up for 9 months. * A typical completed grant request can range from 4 sections to 15 sections all requiring budgets, marketing plans, answering each of the items listed in the grant. * All grant review process is done through a Committee, who's identites are non made public. There is typically a Grants Administrator or a contact person available to answer questions or clarify guidelines. The Administrators are not on the Grant Committee. Many grantors will not provide information as to why you were turned down. Other grantors will only approve a portion of the requested moneys if you have a lower rank. You get a letter "Too Bad So Sad". * You have this little notion of schmoozing - that tactic went out a very very long time ago. Grantors want well written, comprehensive proposals. Grants are awarded based on an extensive point system- no through backroom glad handing. * It's hard because the grant pie is getting smaller and smaller. The resulting pieces get smaller as well. A good grant writer has to somehow make their grant proposal stick out not run of the mill. * My grant writing is specially geared towards private foundations, philathropic groups, the State of New York in several areas, and in one instance with the Federal Government. * Our organization is part of the community - we don't go after grants we know there is no snowball chance in hell of receiving. In addition, our Mission and Charter as a non profit doesn't compete with any of the drivel you put forth. You are amusing on the rhetoric but lousy on the execution. Try finding, writing and putting together a grant request. THEN come back and talk. P.S. Avalon and before them Dave Carlson, were PAID to write the grants. They have the experience and are capable grant writers. THOSE are the groups who should be doing the Federal, HUD, Restore, etc grant writing not a bunch of well meaning rank amateurs who are Alderpeople and the Mayor. Again, you have NO IDEA of what you are talking about.  (Feb 7, 2010 | post #534)

Is anyone as sick of the Main First group as I am?

So there is scuttlebut that Price Chopper is in negotiations with the owners of the Lowe's complex in Herkimer for a store. The water and utilities are there. The property is already developed. The traffic pattern with a light is in place. This sure makes a hell of a lot more sense then dealing with a thoroughly undeveloped quarry and a very inexperienced "developer "  (Feb 6, 2010 | post #108)

Gay NY teen's harassment suit gets federal notice

No, it is just the typical lower middle to lower class clique type environment. Many people have never lived anywhere else. The school district is 99% white. God forbid if a non White Anglo Saxon family moves in town. The general intolerance of any one who doesn't drive a pick up truck, play football, drink beer, do chew, and isn't a "good ol boy" is prevalent. Those who aren't them gets harassed. There is no leeway given to someone with a different life style or is a different. I know. I live there. It's embarrassing and disgusting.  (Feb 6, 2010 | post #20)

Doesn't the owner actually live in the carriage house as we speak? The closing was done awhile back. I'm not sure where you are getting your information.  (Feb 6, 2010 | post #531)

Has the Mansion ever been listed as a National or State Historical Landmark? If not, don't look for many grants that may be available. If memory serves me, various organizations attempted to get grants for the rehab of the mansion over the years but were unable to procur any. You have this misconception that there is a deep well of grants for every little thing Ish. Sadly that is just not the case. The grant process and required documention is overwhelming for the average lay person. AND as you have been told on numerous occassions on other threads, many of grants require a 10 to 50% matching funds on the part of the owner. How many grants have you personally applied for Ish? I have personally written over 25 grants for non profits in the past 3 years. It's clear to me you have no idea what the process truly entails.  (Feb 6, 2010 | post #530)

Yettys Pizza The Wost Italian food around.High priced too

You name it, he did it. It took us 20 minutes to be waited on, forgot 1/2 the order, brought over someone else's order, the food arrived stone cold, we had to flag down another waitperson for drinks and then refills, the salads never arrived, the antipasta never arrived, he kept running by our table saying "I'll be right with you" but never did. Some one in our party had to use the rest room and took a by pass to the kitchen where our entire order was sitting under the heat lamps. The only reason we were served -by the take out order taker -was because we asked for the plates under the heat lamps. This painful ordeal took over an hour before the food arrived at the table. Our family hasn't stepped a foot in there since this occurred in October. Talk about disappointing.  (Feb 6, 2010 | post #10)

If you get a young guy as a waiter in the sit down restaurant, get up and leave. His service was one of the worst experiences my family has ever encountered.  (Feb 6, 2010 | post #6)
