Jim Davidson banned for 'rudeness'

His banning is not related to his stage act but arises from the way in which he interacted with theatre staff during an earlier tour. His on-stage persona might be abrasive for comic effect, but he should respect all those who make his show possible in Norwich before and after his on-stage antics. I hope other venues show solidarity with this theatre, as their very survival depends upon considerate and supportive behaviour from both audience and performers. Provincial venues are particularly vulnerable and many cannot afford to travel long distances for live entertainment - nor should they given the adverse polluting impacts of excessive travel  (Sep 3, 2011 | post #3)

'Climategate' inquiry mostly vindicates scientists

This sorry episode merely revealed how awkward professional elites are finding it to come to terms with the Freedom of Information Act and similar statutes elsewhere in the world. Prince Charles was hoping - for similar traditional reasons - that his correspondence with Qatari investors seeking to redevelop Chelsea Barracks would not be exposed to public scrutiny although he is content to advocate sharing ideas and "community values" every few weeks. The fact that old habits die hard does not mean that academics are cleverly conspiring to deceive decision-makers, just that some are uncomfortable with life under the media spotlight, even when they are alerting society to serious uncertainties about the stability of ecosystems on which we, and perhaps our descendants, must rely.  (Jul 11, 2010 | post #138)

Tebbit could face dragon charges

You'd have to live the life of a hermit to be unaware of the Chinese New Year these days, even in Suffolk. Perhaps Norman will plead mitigating circumstances as he was involved in parliamentary business for a number of years?  (Mar 21, 2010 | post #3)
