Russia To Let Ukraine Slash Gas Purchases

The only reason Putin has done that is to give Timoshenko some leverage against yanukovitch before the elections next year... so that she looks like a heroine for negotiating a better gas deal... Russians' don't really care if it is 50 billion or 60 billion (just an example) that Ukraine buys... in a big picture for them.. its a small change... This is all purely politicaly motivated... Timoshenko is way more Pro-Russian than any of the other 3 contenders...  (Sep 4, 2009 | post #5)

Russia To Let Ukraine Slash Gas Purchases

Simply unbelievable :) What roads are you talking about??? What economy are you talking about?? I was there just 3 months ago... Drove from Kiev to Crimea... 800Km... takes over 10 hours mostly by 2-lane, broken up roads from communist times... neglected and forgotten... only 1 more or less developed highay is the Kiev-Odessa highway... and even that.. by North American Standards is more like a regional road than an actual highway. Ukraine's economy is at standstill right now.. that's why they require less gas... Please don't litter here...  (Sep 4, 2009 | post #4)

National wealth stolen from Abkhazia: Georgian FM

See.. the thing is... even if this is true... Saakashvili is now like a boy who cried wolf... he's accused Russia of so many things and most of them turned untrue.. that its very hard to even listen to him now.. even more take him seriously...  (Aug 27, 2009 | post #2)

Test of Russia's Bulava missile fails

what does Sobchak have to do with Bulava missles? There are more comments about her in this thread than on the actual topic :( The usual " Russia" forum discussion...- offtopic idiotic comments, racial and sexual abuse and petty fighting... - About the missles...everythi ng takes time and trials to be developed... In the history of humankind all countries at some point dropped large to develop some unit of weaponry. It can also be a matter of National pride and credibility. If russia should drop development of these missles and admit failure.. this could cast a shadow over other achievements and result in less trust in russian weapons... hence less orders, hence less revenues..  (Jul 20, 2009 | post #44)

Ukraine's premier says president has no chance of re-elec...

If Yushenko doesnt run again (even though he probably himslef knows he wont be re-elected) it wuld be like acknowledging his defeat and the fact that he did a bad job running this country last 5 years... it would be the end of his politial carrer... at least if he runs and gets 55 of the vote he can count on some high end position (may be even a minister portfolio).  (Jun 25, 2009 | post #1)

Dmitri Medvedev aide attacks Vladimir Putin's concentrati...

nothing will happen... same as nothing will happen to any leaders in any country that has been affected by worldwide economic slowdown... They will have a harder time getting re-elected... this time Putin will get may be 70% of the vote intead of 90%... big diff... Tha sad reality is that there is noone else who could realistically be the president... All others are great role players( Like Lavrov for example... Amazing diplomat.. I have tons of respect for him)... but it takes a certail special someone to be the president in a country like russia  (May 20, 2009 | post #3)

Rice fails to answer boy's question about tortures

these 3 people played large roles in Soviet-Afghan war.. The list of medals that Sokolov ha earned is impressive.... however... in light of current US-Afghan war... hopefully modern day Russia learns from its past errors (and current errors of others) that military action is not the answer.. that is why they were against this Afghan war from the start... they knew it is impossible to win... and by the way... Sokolov is still alive.. (the oldest Russian marshal at present time)... Gromov is into politics now.... Varinnikov is dead..  (May 7, 2009 | post #12)
