Has anyone heard of Pfizer's Chantix

well, it's day 24 of being a non-smoker...it's day 5 of being completely off the chantix, and surprisingly, all emotional side effects are now gone, I'm left with a peeace that I haven't felt in a long time. Relationship issues are working themselves out, urges are very minimal at best, and 100% controllable. I gave the e-cig I had used for a while through the first part of my quit to my girlfriend, who is now attempting her own quit. I know now I AM a non-smoker, and I know now that I CAN control it. I also know the difference I feel being able to breathe, and do so much more, that I do NOT want to go back...ever!!  (Jan 16, 2012 | post #72384)

Trust me,if I could have weaned I would have, when I was out I had no money, still don't until next week, I have been off the chantix for 3 days now...really no side effects to speak of, urges are a little stronger than what they were, but nothing I can't manage, stress level is still high due to personal issues, but I am managing very well...emotionally, no issues, well at least not because of the meds, girlfriend and I are in the middle of a break-up, get back together, I wanna be friends, thing...so emotions are already at a low, however not really thinking the lack of chantix is making it any worse...no more depressing than any other breakup, and I can still manage to laugh with friends...basically saying, normal me all around....except for the cigarettes!!  (Jan 13, 2012 | post #72380)

I would also like to add... cutting out the chantix is as much my decision as it was a financial decision...Althoug h it has done its job wonderfully, some of the side effects have been a little too much to handle...I never got the vivid dreams i so looked forward to...no did i get depression, however what it does do to me is causes me to have an almost constant sense of insecurity, for lack of a better explanation. I have a feeling as if I'm sitting outside the principal's office..I don't know what's about to happen, but I know it's not gonna be a good thing...that feeling... Those feelings extend to my relationship as well...suddenly I had this unending fear that my girlfriend was cheating...it even went as far as spying on her, however, I had absolutely no evidence to even substantiate a fear to begin with, it just started one day sitting at the house like normal...this has since led to a breakup, and hopefully now a reunion, since we have both discussed things at length...she noticed that the issues didn't start until a few days after I started on the chantix... All in all...Chantix is great. Would I recommend it to someone else to help them quit? Most definitely....Howe ver, just make sure that you have an understanding significant other, just in case the mental side effects do take place....  (Jan 9, 2012 | post #72372)

Day 18, and i feel great!! Chantix is about to run out...I have one day left in my starter pack...no money though to refill, however I have been so good at controlling the urge, I am considering just sopping the Chantix now and continuing with my quit...it has definitely helped get me past the hardest part of the quit, which is the nicotine withdrawals...just up to me now to control the physical urge, which I am confident I have full control over at this point...  (Jan 9, 2012 | post #72371)

Day 11 and still smoke free....coughing is not nearly as bad as it ws a few days ago, and breathing is much easier than it's been in years...haven't hd a drag on the e-cigarette in a few days, so the hand-to-mouth habit is being broken slowly but surely.... My girlfriend starts a quit attempt soon...she just went today to get a prescription for the inhaler...she's supported me very well thru my quit so far, so I will for sure be supporting hers...  (Jan 3, 2012 | post #72367)

Yeah it is a great feeling to be liberated, and starting off a new year with a whole new outlook....Althoug h everytime I get ready to leave the house it does still feel like I'm forgetting something...I'll stop and look around the room trying to figure out what it is, and then I realize and just leave, shaking my head all the way out the door... I live in MD and they run 6.88 a pack for the Camel Wides I used to smoke...lol...soun ds funny hearing myself say "used to smoke" guess I can't quite get accustomed to that yet... I feel great already except for the incessant cough, which I know will go away soo...(I hope)...I actually went out and played catch with my gf's son without getting winded, that's something I can barely remember the last time it happened...guessin g Navy boot camp in '91 before I started smoking...lol I hope everyone has a wonderful new year...2012 looks to be either a great year, or the final year, whichever side you choose to believe, so just in case it is the last...LIVE IT UP EVERYONE!!...  (Dec 31, 2011 | post #72359)

Well....had a little setback last night...My girlfriend decided we should "take a break" for a while...was really stressed out and took 2 puffs from her cigarette...I feel guilty, yet at the same time relieved that I was able to take those two and realize how nasty those things actually taste...I nearly choked, and it took me hours to get the taste out of my mouth...is that the same stuff I was putting in my mouth for 20 years? Seems so different when you have a new perspective on it! Still a little stressed now, however the urges have passed and it's back to normal on the quit...emotionally I am still kind of a wreck though...lol  (Dec 31, 2011 | post #72356)

1Americandude, Yeah that was the part that worried me as well...replacing one habit with another which so closely resembled the one I was trying to break. So...proud to report, I'm on quit day 8...E-cigarette is now a thing of the past, coughing spells have definitely increased almost tenfold...expectin g to see my toes come out during one soon...lol...but, breathing is definitely easier every day. I just got home from the store, and while waiting at the checkout I saw a lady smoking outside, and realized that just a week ago that was me...standing in the cold, puffing away, because I was a prisoner to that little stick in between my fingers...I finally got that "breaking free" feeling today when I saw that....you know, the one a real prisoner must feel the first time he sees light through the little hole under the bed he's been chiseling on for a year...  (Dec 30, 2011 | post #72354)

The issue really has nothing to do with background or heritage, but moreover, with the legality of their residence in the US...if they(the parents) have not filed the proper papers, and fulfilled the requirements to be here legally, then we the taxpayers of the US who are here legally, should have no financial obligations to them or their children whatsoever. This includes education, welfare, food stamps, housing, etc. It's a crying shame when someone on unemployment goes to social services to get help via food stamps to feed his family, and he's told that because of his unemployment benefits he makes too much money and is turned away. However, ten minutes later, the non-english speaking wife, of an illegal alien is given food stamps, welfare, section 8, and has their electric and heating bills paid for, meanwhile, her husband is employed (illegally) at a local chicken processing facility, and is usally seen with wads of hundred dollar bills in his pocket at the local convenience stores. So who is really getting the short end of the stick here? If I went to Mexico, would they force all their kids to learn english to suit me, or just give me all the food and money I could need? I seriously doubt it. They are trespassing illegally on US soil and should be treated as the criminals that they are, not catered to just to make our liberl politicians look like "nice guys"  (Dec 26, 2011 | post #2)

Well, here I am, with good news...I am now on my third smoke-free day...it's not the easiest thing I have ever attempted, but certainly not the hardest either, so to those following in my footsteps, keep that in mind... Chantix is doing its job superbly...I have had zero nicotine cravings. The one thing it doesn't take care of is the habit of lighting up at certain times throughout the day, for that I have purchased an e-cigarette with the non-nicotine filter, and can water-vapor to my heart's content. I've also found that the inhalation of the water vapor has helped a lot with assisting the stuff that wants to forcefully exit from my lungs all day long... So far I've had none of the side effects from Chantix, not one...maybe one good dream, but I wouldn't classify it as having been "vivid" in any way, just memorable....Still trying to figure out why Twisted Sister would be filming the video for "We're not gonna take it" this late in the game, and why do it in a chicken-house on the eastern shore of MD? Otherwise though, no depression, or abnormal moods, no constipation, no nausea, actually if anything Chantix has had just the opposite effects on me. I'm always in a happy mood, and feel better now than I have in a long time... I hope everyone here had a very Merry Christmas, and that you all have a wonderful New Year!  (Dec 26, 2011 | post #72349)

The word "illegal " is the key word...if you caught someone trespassing on your property who intends on stealing your food, would you take them in, house them and feed them, or try to get rid of them as quickly as possible?  (Dec 20, 2011 | post #1)

I suppose I hit my first milestone today (Day $3 of Chantix). Late last night I ran out of smokes. Not feeling like driving 2 miles to the only open store in the area, I decided to just tough it out. For the first time in as long as I can remember, I awoke in the morning without a cigarette and wasn't flipping out after an hour...sure I wanted a cigarette, but just didn't NEED it like usual. I still broke down and went and bought a pack, but am commiting myself to trying to wait as long as possible in between smokes... To some that may seem like a small step, but for me it was huge...normally after an hour of being awake without having a smoke, I'm literally impossible to deal with...  (Dec 16, 2011 | post #72339)
