So what do we think of McCains pick on VP?
Why do you seem to feel that black families are the only families that overextended when taking out a loan for a home. Many homes that are being forclosed on belong to whites and people of other races. This is not the race issue your trying to make it. (Monday Oct 13 | post #36)
Do you agree with spanking your child?
Most of us have smacked a little ones hands and said no if a child starts to play with an electric outlet. Mind you I said smack not twist the kids hand or break his/her arm. There is a big difference between a spanking and a beating or smacking a kid in the face or head. Beating a child with a switch or belt is wrong, smacking a child in the head is wrong but there is nothing wrong with using the flat hand and swating a child on the rear end. Notice I used the term swat not beat. (Monday Oct 13 | post #52)
So what do we think of McCains pick on VP?
Your right CC. McCain did vote on things Bush wanted most of the time. I know what you mean by the semantics games. Everyone just remember to get out there and vote on election day. Let your voice be heard. (Thursday Oct 9 | post #26)
Is anyone going to the VP debate tonight?
I also watched and thought it was a pretty good debate. I did not like the way Palin skirted around some issues by bringing up something different when a specific question was asked. Well there will be a few more debates and maybe she will get better at responding to questions. Guess we will see if it is just inexperience on her part or if as you said she has memorized some statements. (Friday Oct 3 | post #4)
CC My husband and I have traveled a lot and I can tell you that in some other states you do pay a tourism tax on the hotels. I have no clue as to who has control over the money in the other states. I would think that Arnold is not the only place in Mo. that charges this tax and in fact Arnold probably checked with other places that have this tax before starting it here. (Friday Oct 3 | post #32)
Matt Are you saying that all the money for the concerts in the park come from the tourism tax. If this is the case then as a citizen I am not paying the cost of the concerts but the people who stay in the hotels are. My answer to the person asking about concerts and things to do in Arnold was not meant to turn this thread into an arguement about the City of Arnold and the Jaycee's. Regardless of who pays for this the fact is we do have some good concerts in the park and they are free to those who wish to attend. (Thursday Oct 2 | post #25)
I will agree that many good topics are deleted due to the actions of a few people. Seems that many topics wind up off topic and the name calling begins or as Concerned Citizen stated racist remarks were made in one of the topics. I hate it when an entire thread is deleted due to a few what a few people do. I guess it is easier for Topix to delete entire threads instead of one or two posts. This thread seems to also be getting off topic and I wouldn't doubt that the next time I come here it will also be gone if it continues to go off topic and gets worse. (Thursday Oct 2 | post #19)
Matt some of the money may come from the taxpayers of Arnold but they are free to anyone wishing to attend which includes those from Festus, South County, etc. Does Arnold really pay the entire bill? If they do then how and why are the Jaycees involved in it. It would seem if the city paid all the bills then it would be completely up to the Parks Dept. to put this on and the Jaycees would have no involvement. At any rate the free concerts in the park are great. (Thursday Oct 2 | post #17)
In the summer the Jaycee's have several concerts in the park which are free. They also have concerts at Rickmann Aud. which are not free. It is mainly country singers at Rickmann. You can call City Hall to find out about the concerts or someone knows when the next one will be and who it will be they may post it for you. As Concerned said we also have several different places to eat here several are bar and grills like 54th Street, Legends, Ruby Tuesdays, Dylans. Several Deli places are now open as well as fast food. We also have a nice Rec. Center which has activities for kids as well as adults. Maybe someone else can add more to the list. (Wednesday Oct 1 | post #7)

Beading and Jewelry Information
I don't think the hobby shop behind Culvers has much in the line of beads or any classes. Seems to carry more train and airplane models etc than the other type of hobby items. They also have some neat kids games and you can build a bear there as well. (Thursday Sep 25 | post #3)
miniature golf or other recreation?
Matt That is nice of you to offer to get together with this couple and maybe show them around. Would be nice to build a lasting friendship. (Monday Sep 22 | post #8)
miniature golf or other recreation?
It would help others out here to know the ages of your children. We have a bowling alley, skating rink, and there used to be a small minature golf course right next to the skating rink. Not sure if it is still there. Ferd Lang Park has a skateboard park. Suson Park which is just across the river also has an area where children can look at the animals and there is also a skating rink there. Ice skating in the winter. The Rec Center has things for children to do as well as the library. As I said these things will depend on your childrens ages. I'm sure others with children young children can help you out also. (Friday Sep 19 | post #3)
Can't wait for the new container to arrive. Now I will be able to get rid of old magazines and news papers without having to lift a heavy tote full of these things. (Friday Sep 19 | post #2)
CC I don't think there was another life at risk. Yes the kids may have been a little uncomfortable and yes they may have been running low on gas. I'm sure had there really been a medical emergency with one of the children the officer would have gladly called for help for the child. (Thursday Sep 18 | post #22)
